Injection; IV Complications and Information MEGATHREAD and FAQ II - show me the blood

Okay, so my friend spent the night last night and was shooting up a supposed legal Mephedrone or Methylone item called Molly's Plant Food. He was complaining of it burning his veins yet couldn't stop doing it and proceeded to miss a few veins completely. I believe it may have some kind of acid in it because when he added normal water to the yellowish powder it fizzed up.

The particular bad spot is on his left wrist around the major vein on the right side that continues up to the thumb. He wants to know if he should go to the hospital or not. There is a large swollen area around the missed spot on the vein with slight bruising. He says it hurts when he moves it certain ways and when opening his hand. Also there is a numbness/tingling sensation going up from the spot of the missed shot into the hand and felt greatly in the fingertips. The tingling has been getting more and more noticeable in the past few hours. His hand has been turning a whitish color but that may be from dehydration or not eating or sleeping in the past couple days.

Any ideas? And does anyone know if this plant food thing is the pure chemical? I have a strong feeling it's not.

Kind of a weird update here.

So my friend did not take my advice to go to see a doctor and instead told me that he spent the rest of the night shooting dope. The weird thing is he said that right after he hit the first shot that everything started returning back to normal. He woke up and all the swelling/numbness/pain was gone and there is no sign of his missed shots anymore. Now thats some fuckin luck for ya. I hope there won't be some kind of consequences later down the road for him from those missed shots because he was freaking out bad about them that morning. I guess heroin just makes things magically disappear!?

arm numb after IV?

Hi bluelight,

i have been IVing heroin for about a month now, after snorting it for a few years. as you can guess i am still kind of new with it and am still making mistakes...though i try to keep these to as few as possible.

here is my issue....tonight, i shot near the crook of my elbow. i registered in the vein and depressed the plunger... it burned a little about halfway through the shot, so i figured i had accidentally slipped out. i pulled the needle out and took aim at the vein on the other side of the crook in the elbow, and finished the shot. after about a minute, the inner side of my forearm became fairly numb from my elbow to my wrist. in the 3.5 hours since the shot, it has gotten somewhat better....but has left me nervous. i try to keep everything sterile as possible... i used a clean point, fresh cotton from the exchange, and an unopened, cold bottled aqufina water...

what may have happened, bluelight? i searched the forums, and the closest thing i could find was somebody accidentally getting their radial nerve... but im not sure if this is the case. my arm doesnt hurt, only feels numb.

thankyou!!

Aside from the obvious thing people will tell you (ER), I would say all you can do is wait 24 hours and see if it gets any better. Is there swelling at the injection site? If so, you definitely slipped out (which you most likely did if you felt any burning sensation).

The numbness I would like to say is either a result of the missed shot or you hitting some type of nerve (in which case the numbness could take days/months to go away).

If you have lost any motor function of your arm, like moving your fingers or anything see a doctor immediately.

I can tell you from an experience I had, I was shooting in my cephalic vein about 4-6" from the base of my thumb and hit something weird, got a pain/sensation that traveled toward my hand (this was not from injecting, as I did not push down the plunger at all). It left my half my hand numb, which went away in about less than 24 hours luckily. However, a small part of my hand remained numb for weeks but slowly got better. It did not effect anything like the movement of my fingers, but was rather scary.

From what I have gathered, nerves can take a while to repair themselves (if thy ever repair). It's really a crap shoot.

For peace of mind, I would see how things change in a day, and possibly see a doc at the ER.

thankyou for your input, it is much appreciated.
its been 2 nights since it happened....the numbness is still kind of there by my wrist, but noticably less. theres not really any swelling, or any redness....but when i strech my arm out, i feel a slight strain. i think i may have poked the nerve... :/ i am going to give it a few days to see if it sorts its self out....not put any strain on it but still try to flex it and see if it gets any better.

i wouldnt mind going to the doc just to ask....but i live with my parents, and they think i am still clean after a stint in rehab about a year ago. also, they dont know that i have IV'd and i really would like to avoid teling them if i can...

and sorry to hear about your experience! though it sounds similar to mine...so thanks for giving me a little peace of mind! something good did some out of it... know that your suffering was not in "vein"! (haha couldnt resist...)
i hit the same vein except more towards the elbow on the first shot. i havent lost any motor function, which is a good sign, but there was a burning sensation, which is why i pulled it out the first time. hopefully it will repair its self within a few days, but i guess this is the dangers of IV....

just out of curiousity, how would one know if they had collapsed a vein? i dont think this is the case but i was just wondering.

A collapsed vein wouldn't be visible, and you couldn't feel for them. Using a tourniquet would not help them present, and further attempts to inject into a collapsed vein would not yield success.

More, much smaller, surface veins might appear in its place; using these for IV is near-impossible, and doing so will seriously mess up your circulatory system.

Shooting locations

After the first time IV'ing do you ever get that good rush again? Am I just tolerant now and not doing enough, or is it just never the same? Don't get me wrong I just shot up and got high as fuck, but I don't get that immediate rush of tingles and pleasure. Sometimes I think I miss because I don't get the immediate joyful onset. (I'm definitely not missing though) Think I'm just a little disappointed of my tolerance.

Does location of injection have anything to do with it. Been shooting in the bicep and it seems to take like 45 seconds to feel really good, not that 1 second rush I got the first time. Does anyone else shoot in the bicep? Good or bad? Opinions? I like it because I never leave a mark when I shoot there.

It's probably your tolerance. I don't use heroin anymore though.

As you can probably tell I have anxiety issues, so I'm always worried about doing to much. So a lot of times I'll end up doing 2 shots and that kinda ruins the rush part. Don't get me wrong, I get high. Just that initial onset isn't quite there.

PS
When I said "you" I wasn't talking to you inparticular Captain, just all Blighter's. I do remember you saying you don't do dope anymore. Thanks though, your probably right as usual.

You definitely do get a good rush again. I get a rush every shot as long as I do enough dope...

Tolerance does increase, so obviously if you are steadily shooting every day you are going to have to up your dose to keep the same effect...

Depending how far away I shoot from the heart it will take between 10 and 40 seconds to feel the rush...

If I shoot in my crook of my arms it hits me within about 10 seconds from finishing the shot.

hands take about 15-20 seconds

feet probably take the longest..

the missed shot/scar tissue...that's suppose to go away in time or something? I rubbed it with warm water it did bring it down a notch thx! :)

Second pic is because you shot under the skin. I got that the first (and last) time I tried to put something (morphin) up in my vein. It can be scary, but it's not dangerous.
As for the first one, I would say it's time to pick up another body part... this one is getting tired, obviously.

i need help guys......

i missed a shot about 7 days ago.....my left basilic vein.....there has been a bump in that general area this whole past week....i tried many hot presses..... its a small little bump, hard, and there is some bruising underneath the skin that you can see.....small amount.....

i have never had a complication stick around this long.....im starting to really worry.....

ideas anyone?

edit....its not painful, never was......also no skin disturbance, maybe a little bump, tiny......

Should I go to the ER and get it treated? or just wait on it? because i dont want to be listed as a drug addict by the medical community because I wont get pain meds when I'm old and actually need em

There's no need to go anywhere man, relax. Both will disappear very soon. On a miss, a warm wet compress is helpful, and the more you move, the faster it will vanish. The histamine reaction is nothing.

There's nothing to treat. And, if you were to go and they'd ask you how and what happened, what would you say? "I don't know,"? Kind of hard to treat something if they have no idea what brought it about. Or they just might know exactly what brought it about. That would be great. They'd know they've got a junkie in their midst.

Relax. Shit. Both are probably almost gone already as I write this.
