Injecting street heroin - a step too far?

I've had morphine and it makes me insanely itchy.

... It's #3 all the way round here but it's rarely good
That's interesting.

I have to say on consideration, if I could get hold of pure pharma stuff that's ready to inject as is, I'd miss the dirty little ritual of having to mix up.
... Add a little bit of this and a little bit of that, watch the flame lick the spoon, drop in your filter to draw up; all that perfunctory mundane alchemy which is a whole act in itself.
You got it.

My overriding question is why on earth you were reading about Peaches Geldof. Unless there were smacky pics you could laugh out loud to (knock one out to).

What you got against Peaches? 😀

I read about most drug deaths - we're all jakey fuckers after all.

it's already addictive if snorted/smoked, by injecting it I believe addiction increases much much more, just snort/smoke it or at most plug it but leave injection off the plan.
It never ever passed my mind the thought of injecting it not even just for a single try.
Can you give a source that proves that IV use is unequivocally more addictive than other ROAs? For crystal, I thought snorted was more addictive than IV. Never IV’d opioids although opioids were my DOC.

Bitd I lived very close to a nurses housing block and got to know a few... I use to get thr discarded DM amps which would still have up to 3/4 of the dose. Definitely not the same or imo as good as #3 probably as the later also contains thebain, codeine and other assorted smacks cousins.

I've never found heroin addictive - it's like rat park - if you have other things going on you don't get addicted.
“The question is frequently asked: Why does a man become a drug addict?
The answer is that he usually does not intend to become an addict. You don’t wake up one morning and decide to be a drug addict. It takes at least three months’ shooting twice a day to get any habit at all. And you don’t really know what junk sickness is until you have had several habits. It took me almost six months to get my first habit, and then the withdrawal symptoms were mild. I think it no exaggeration to say it takes about a year and several hundred injections to make an addict.
The questions, of course, could be asked: Why did you ever try narcotics? Why did you continue using it long enough to become an addict? You become a narcotics addict because you do not have strong motivations in the other direction. Junk wins by default. I tried it as a matter of curiosity. I drifted along taking shots when I could score. I ended up hooked. Most addicts I have talked to report a similar experience. They did not start using drugs for any reason they can remember. They just drifted along until they got hooked. If you have never been addicted, you can have no clear idea what it means to need junk with the addict’s special need. You don’t decide to be an addict. One morning you wake up sick and you’re an addict. (Junky, Prologue, p. xxxviii)”

^^^ of course another reason we decide to carry on using is because its soooo fucking nice.

Is it your favourite feeling from drugs? The ultimate high? I've never got that much from heroin/morphine/oxy/opium - it's a nice floaty feeling and you can feel a bell ring in your stomach, but what else is there to it? You're just laid on the fucking couch monged. On a psychedelic you're out in nature shouting "Hello birds! Hello trees!" :)

I tend to have that renewed appreciation for everything around me from heroin. That and no anxiety , no depression, confidence, sociability and contentment. So it’s pretty all-encompassing. I did used to LOVE psychedelics from 17 and through a fair bit of my 20’s but then heroin, crack and ketamine took the preferred place as they all did exactly what I needed. Except maintain my health and bank balance.

The first hit I took I felt that this was the thing I had been looking for all my life - I've done my share of most drugs and the only one that came close was mdma -in the golden years 88-92.

Actually I don't have one at the moment, my statement is the result of common knowledge, most people addicted to heroin who frequent drug clinics and have difficulties quitting usually inject.

The reason why IV’ing is more addictive is the fact it’s instant gratification. You go from ill to on top of the world in an instant. Alongside that you have the needle fixation which, for a lot of people, is a big deal. I know I used to shoot water sometimes to just go through the motions and psychologically it’d help a little.

However, to anyone that’s about to say that smoking reaches your brain faster (you’re right) you’re not generally able to get the same amount in one go to hit home.

I think heroin/morphine are underwhelming unless you're in pain, mentally or physically. They have the almost unique properties of getting into your subconsciousness and make you crave them every time you feel down. And they suppress so many other stuff like your testosterone, creating a vicious circle of you requiring more opioids because you did opioids but they are only euphoric as long as tolerance isn't too high or do require you to push the dosage. I know, most drugs do that to some extent but opioids are differently.
I don't think so. think o alcohol or benzos, or gabas, mdma, and other t'han I dont know.

I think it is not about your preferences or tastes but your needs. Opiates are not about fun, they are about relief.
If you use them being more or less ok with your life - mental, physical, moral, socially wise- they are not that impressive. But if you have any kind of a deep suffering and you go and do the right amount of the right opi, it will end your torture, it will kill your pain and it will fix your problems all at once. That is when the godly bliss of opis shines over any and everything, that's when they are really working and that's when they grab you.
Same thing goes for benzos, a meh drug if you don't really need them and a bliss/curse if you do.
The point about drugs that provide relief is not about you being happier on them, nor about them making you enjoy situations, point is they allow you to just be, to make bareable being your true self in this world and into your body, mind and soul.
