Injecting OxyContin, is it worth it?

Hey guys, sorry if this has been done before but I used the search engine and didn't really find much.

I have been curious to try opiates intraveinously for some time now but for various reasons I have thought better of it until recently. I have always felt, for whatever reason, that carefully prepared pharmaceuticals was cleaner than street drugs due to the fact they cannot really be contaminated with bacteria the way heroin for example may be. I had always been lead to believe that oxy was not really worth it to inject, and was hoping to obtain some morphine or hydromorphone for my first IV injection. Recently though I have been told by a couple of people that IV oxy is pretty darn good and not a far cry from IV morphine or heroin.

I have recently obtained a handful of Mundipharma 40mg OxyContins, I live in Australia so they are not the so called 'OP's' and I don't believe they gel up whatsoever when being prepared for injection, from my experience snorting them they crush up rather easily. I really only have enough to get high twice if I snort or eat them and considering these are the only opies I have to play with for a while I thought I might get more out of injecting them.

Basically I wanted to know people with experiences thoughts on whether injecting oxycodone is a worthwhile exercise or if I am as well to stick to current ROA's. Also, since oxy has such a high bioavailability from other ROA's will I get by on that much less? I tend to snort/eat 80-120mg for a pretty strong high and was hoping to get away with 40mg shots.

The other concern I have is if I could get the goods from a 40mg OxyContin into an insulin/1mL syringe and still leave some space to register. The people I know to inject oxy tend to use more water than this but since 160mg oxy is soluble in 1mL of water I wondered if it was reasonable to expect to use around a mL to prep and expect around 80 units back without losing much of my dope?

I have to practise my shooting technique and I can't really afford to leave larger marks practising with bigger needles, so I am really only comfortable to go ahead with this if it will be possible to get a decent shot off with an insulin syringe.

Finally, I visited my local NSP today and they do not stock micron filters. I will be doing my best to obtain some and I am WELL aware of the drawbacks of not using a micron filter. However this site claims using that method they get a solution as clear as a micron filter, while I doubt it is as effective as a micron can anyone verify that it is a relatively safe way to filter pills compared to just using a ciggie filter?

Cheers in advance to anyone who took the time to read this and anyone who replies. I am doing a fair bit of reading on injecting technique since my first few tries with water were unsuccessful. If anyone has any particularly useful links on injecting they could include or PM me it would be very much appreciated also. Thanks guys!

So you've hit the needles DM?

^^ Fairly certain they stock micron filters at Innerspace the NSP in collingwood - Johnston St, just off Smith St.

I personally would never IV a pill without a micron filter, the mundipharma OC's are around 350-400 mg a pill from memory... Thats a whole lot of binder to worry about.

You're chasing a rush that I find is not worth it.

No it's not worth it. Do you eat the 120mg's all at once, or do you spread it out over an hour or so? I do about the same amount to get high.

And honestly i've wanted to try it to. But you get a 90% BA from eating it. From what I heard the rush isn't that great and the high doesn't last that long either. It's worth a shot if you can get your hands on a micron filter.

However I think you would be happier just eating them. You'll get a longer high and about the same out of them as you would if you injected them. Snorting them should give you enough of a kick, but you'll loose a little BA as you know.

If you want to inject a opiate get some dilauladid. It's oral BA is terrible and the rush is great. So my point is some opiates are better injected, some arn't. Oxycodone is better to take orally.

Have fun.

i like the rush, nothing like h though. the few times I did it it freaked me out injecting blue shit into my veins, so I stopped. weird from someone that has a DOC of heroin, but hey we do what we do lol

I would say it is not worth it, as the oral BA is relatively high, and the oral duration is very long.

As always, using a micron is definitely necessary. Anyone can read up about it by clicking on the last link of my signature.

Tripman I haven't really hit the needle other than a couple of failed attempts to tap a vein with some water whilst drunk (stupid I know) but curiosity killed the cat and I am feeling ready to take the plunge. Cheers for the info on where to get microns tats a big help brother.

I would rather use morphine or hydromorphone but at the minute all I have access to is OxyContin.

I weighed up a 40mg OC the other week and on my scales it said they weighed around 150mg (my scales only go to two decimal places) but that was shortly before the batteries died so perhaps I should recheck that.

I am curious for anyone that has experience if its realistic to expect that I would be able to get the majority of goods from a 40 into around 80-90 units of water thus leaving me a little space to register and still get away with using an insulin rather than a bigger fit? Also while I am well aware of Oxys high oral bioavailability a friend of mine has suggested that injecting oxycodone gives him a much stronger high than comparing the dose to a similar oral dose should when you factor in the high oral bioavailability. Obviously I expect the high to be shorter, but this isn't really a concern for me unless it becomes ridiculously short like cocaine or something?

From someone who has extensive experience with it, I have to say that as long as you filter well, I think there's a great rush and is totally worth it. Back when I lived in South Florida I was injecting oxycodone on a regular basis both from Oxycontin, and Roxicodone(both 15mg and 30mg instant release). Out of the two formats, I much preferred the roxi's since they are instant release they break down and dissolve much easier than OC's.

My particular favourite was to add an 8mg Dilaudid in the same rig. It's a great combination between the intense rush of the hydromorphone and the longer lasting high of the oxycodone. The best opiate cocktail though had to be that with a little dope added in to the mixture(although I only did that once).

have you tried plugging them d_m? Turning to IV use isn't really a decision that should be taken lightly. There's a thread back over in AusDD about prepping OC's for IV use & using wheel filters. If you can't get ahold of any where you are they're $2 here from the needle exchange, I could always send you some? :)

Stabbing around in your arm without knowing what you're doing is a sure way to scar/collapse veins though. Seriously, consider just sticking to eating, sniffing or plugging them buddy.

Edit: oh I'd personally say a 1ml insulin syringe would be fine but someone in that thread I mentioned suggested using more water?

in my opinion, it's worth it to try it out a few times just so you can see what it feels like. however, i wouldn't be breaking out the rigs for the first time just for oxy. IV oxy produces a rush, in the sense that you can feel yourself going from sober to high moderately quickly. it's nothing like IV hydromorphone though, which is basically you go from sober to high as fast as you can push down the plunger lol. my advise is to save the rigs for something worth it when the time comes.

there was a point when i would IV oxy, just for the nod it produced. the high is very intense for the first 15 mins- 1hr. it was like being awake and dreaming at the same time, and i would be typing incoherent things on BL in a post, then "wake up" and realize i had sentences of random letters that didn't even make any sense, let alone any words for that matter haha. anyways, after the 45 min to 1hr mark, the high is greatly diminished, and while you can still feel it in you, you don't get those waves of euphoria anymore.

my advise is to plug. plugging oxy is the best way to take it i've found. it has a very high bioavailability and you're going to start feeling your dose within 5 minutes of plugging. put something on TV or jam some music and be ready to enjoy waves of euphoria for 4 hours.

Hey Belarki cheers for the sending offer but it seems they are available down here and I just have to stop being slack and go get some. I really appreciate it though. :)

I haven't tried plugging oxy but to be honest I am VERY reluctant to because I have tried plugging morphine and heroin before and both times I was extremely disappointed with the result. I did everything right and there is no reasons it shouldn't of worked for me but on both occasions it was almost a complete waste. As a large influence on my decision to IV is economy I am really not sure I am willing to entirely waste an OC.

Thanks for the link, I will definately have a read through that although I am working with 40mg tablets so hopefully can get away with less water. I hope you are right about 1mL being enough.

Could some of the people with experience share their prep technique and how much water they used?

BTW I should add that it was silly to have a poke after a few drinks the other night but I got the equipment and I was a bit nervous till then. I don't plan on doing anymore poking around in that state and I do have a reasonable grasp on IV technique with the intention of reading much more on the subject. :)

Cheers for the replies so far guys!

^ the technique I posted in that thread (post #32) works perfectly for one or two of the small, coloured OCs we get here, probably a lot better than the endones the OP was talking about. It's really a lot easier to use a wheel filter than I made out there... I just wanted to note all of the steps in detail :) If in doubt ask someone at the needle exchange to demonstrate one for you?

You just need to remember that the wheel filters only work in one direction, that you need to wet them first, and to make sure you sterilize everything!!!

For shooting technique, avoid a torniquet unless absolutely required, use heat or doing some high intensity exercise (burpees lol) to try and make your veins pop out instead. Insert the needle with the hole of the tip pointing upwards (if you look closely it's on an angle) and at an angle from your skin of about 25-30 degrees. Veins in your hands, wrists and feet will "roll" easier (i.e. will move out of the way of the needle) and will hence be tricky to hit even though they tend to be prominent. Pull back on the plunger slightly once you think you're in the vein, you should get a tiny burst of blood flow back into the syringe (called registering), if not then don't proceed. Also push down on the plunger steadily and slowly. Once removed do not wipe the site with an alcohol swab as it'll cause it to bleed/bruise more, use a clean tissue/cloth instead. Hope all of this helps?

http://www.saferinjecting.net/safer-injecting-drugs.html (old link, and can't remember exactly what was on it, but if you google the website you may be able to find information somewhere that corresponds to your situation)

an old friend helped me out with these links back in the day.

also, this is your last chance to turn back. it's not too late. i'm telling you injecting oxy really isn't worth it, but to each his own. just be safe, and if you feel pain or tingling, don't be afraid to stop. a lot of people just say "oh fuck it" and then plunge right through it. don't be those people lol.

also, i would highly recommend a practice shot with clean water before you try it out for the real thing. it definitely helps take off some of the pressure for your first time.

edit: and if this is your first time, personally i wouldn't worry about using the wheel filter, but that's up to you. it just adds something else to worry about. especially if you only just have one pill, i would do this: stuff cotton to the 20 or 30 unit mark, and then squirt your solution into the back of the syringe and filter it out through the tip of the needle. it produces a much easier filtering process, and personally i think it's more effective than just puttin a small dot of cotton on your soln. to filter through.

I'd like to echo these sentiments. I don't look down upon IV users but 999 out of 1000 people probably do.

Korn3x I certainly intend a practise with water, infact I really wont feel comfortable trying it with oxy until I get 3 or 4 hits with water. If you don't think it is so great I am not really sure why you would reccomend against it so strongly? Hopefully I don't find it so great either and it doesn't become a problem for me.

I am pretty good at keeping my opioid use under control (famous last words?) and using them is a solitary exercise for me 95% of the time or more. I don't really intend to use any other class of drugs intravenously or to advertise the fact that I am doing so in my own time.

I appreciate that this is a big decision and that it may not be in my best interests in the long run, but honestly the only thing likely to turn me off the idea now is if I am honestly unable to hit myself with saline after multiple tries. I have been curious about this for too long and it was inevitably going to happen at some point, perhaps 21 isn't the best age to start but then again when is...

One thing I would really like an idea of is exactly how much water to use and how much I should expect back, from what I gather when IV'ing pills you don't expect to get all the water back. Ideally I would use the minimum amount of water possible but unless someone tells me otherwise I am going to have to use 100 units and hope that is enough to get all my goods and that I am right about losing a little so I have space to register...

I forgot to add, Belarki I see you mention in the link you gave me to use a needleless syringe, I have a few 3 and 5mL fits but all of them have needles attached, are these generally detatchable or did I just get the wrong ones? Would it be OK to substitute one with a needle, atleast for a cotton filter since it looks like I might not/probably wont get microns?

The local NSP is basically a tiny room which the lady gave me a key to and let me grab some shit, as I am totally new to this I didn't really know what I was looking for and assumed the ones with needles are what I wanted.

It turns out my car is fucked atm and I don't have the cash to get it fixed. This means it is pretty unlikely I will have access to any further equipment and also means it will be a while before I can afford any more opiates so these are certainly being whacked if I can manage it.

Annoyingly I seem to have lost the brochures I picked up on safe injecting procedure so I will have to have a serious browse online when I have some time to. Thanks a lot for the responses guy and sorry to ask a million questions, I just want to do this as right as possible with the equipment I have got.

^ not sure to be honest, the only wheel filters I've seen have screwed onto the end of a needle-less syringe. I'm not sure whether the fits you have will have detachable tips? You can just filter through cotton and forget a micron filter but that kind of flys in the face of harm reduction...

Oh I forgot to add that depending on how you hold the syringe, it'll be much much easier to register and start pushing in the plunger if it is not 100% full (i.e. only use 50-60 units, not 100). Again from that other thread some of the others suggested using more water though.

^ Yeah I know its not ideal to not use a micron filter but a syringe stuffed with cotton and a swab is surely better than just using a ciggie butt. I will do my best to obtain some micron filters but with a fucked car I am kind of out of options. Nobody I know is going to drive me the 45 minutes to the nearest confirmed place I can get one and public transport isn't an option for me at this point in time. What a fucking shit time for my car to fuck up...

It seems most sites saying how to do a cotton filter use a needless syringe for that too, but is there any reason it should matter that mine have points?

Ease of registering and pushing off is one of my main concerns in wanting to use as small a needle with minimal water possible, alongside leaving a smaller injection mark.

Nope, they'll be fine for that. Definitely only use a small needle for the injection itself though (nothing bigger than a 27 guage insulin syringe). Regarding hitting a vein, just be patient and steady and rotate injecting sites.

I know this will be sounding tedious by now, but is the additional high from injecting OC over the other routes of administration really going to be worth it?

Stay safe buddy :)
