Harm Reduction Injecting methamphetamine and pancreatitis

Hello all.

Last week I was hospitalised with a nasty bout of acute pancreatitis. The first time I have ever had it, holy shit, the pain is intense! Anyway, I do not have gall stones, so the cause is almost certainly alcohol. Whilst I am not an alcoholic, I am certainly an "enthusiastic" drinker and have consumed at least 3-4 standard drinks most days for the last 8 years or so. I also have Type 1 (insulin dependant) diabetes, which I have had since I was 6 years old (I'm now 28).

I was told by the doctors to stay off the booze for a couple of months and then very slowly and carefully reintroduce alcohol to my diet if I wished to and not to go overboard. I'm going to go 6 months without drinking and see how I go from there.

My question is: before I was discharged I asked my doctor whether there was any risk of further damage/another case of pancreatitis from using other recreational substances such as MDMA and methamphetamine. He said as long as I didn't go overboard and stayed hydrated and kept my use infrequent I should be fine.

Does anyone on here have any experience or knowledge in this area? I'd like to use meth in about 1 month's time. Usually I shoot it, 2 points, 1 point at a time and that will keep me sufficiently happy for 2 days. However I'm thinking this may be a bit too much of a shock to the system and perhaps it would be better to drop 30mg into a pipe and have a bit of a twirl, see how that hits my body and proceed from there.

Is my love for recreational substances clouding my judgement here, is this an idiotic idea? Or do you think this would be a (relatively) safe method of reintroducing stimulants to my body? Your thoughts and knowledge are appreciated.

before my rambles ;),IMO I think in a month I would go for the meager 30mg IV that instead of vaping but ....... heres why below

If you are keen on IV just drop that 30mg into your rig and do that, i did smoke/vape meth for at least ten years, any amount of the smoke now makes me violently gag, feels like your gonna puck your testicles and colon type shit.

ive stuck to snorting my crystal now, I always did IV just to get my dope done for the next 24+ hrs, even 30mg of pure crystal would have me awake for 2 days anyhow been without IV anything for 6 months now at least, injected some crap and now I have like a stain in my left eye that IS NOT visible to outsiders without "equipment to do so" but it blocks my vision when that pupil is not hella dialated. weird as hell and the when the doc checked it all i got was a hmm and an insane look. o.O

sorry im very focused right now lolz

just drop that 30mg into your rig and do that

Believe me, I'd like to...I'm pretty lightweight, only do it once every 3-4 weeks or so. 30mg would have me rocking. A point buckles me....but I enjoy it haha. I'm just concerned about introducing (for me) a decent amount instantly into my bloodstream...at least if I have a few puffs and space them out, paying close attention to my physical state then if it does begin to irritate my pancreas in some fashion I'll hopefully get a chance to stop before I get in too deep. Hopefully.

The more I am reading back what I have written, the more it seems like the desperate ramblings of someone trying to justify unsafe usage of their DOC....

Mods, could you perhaps move this to The Dark Side (or anywhere you feel may be more appropriate)? Thought I would get a few more responses in here but perhaps it will fare better over there.

The Dark Side is not appropriate, it's for people recovering from addiction or mental health issues and is not for discussion of recreational drug use. Your post is probably fine here in Other Drugs.

If the meth is bad for your pancreas I don't think you'd necessarily be able to feel it right away, so I don't think the idea of smoking a couple puffs, checking for pancreas pain and then assuming you're all good will be helpful. Honestly, I would just lay off all drugs and alcohol for a few months while you recover.

Here is just one study that found that methamphetamine is very damaging to the pancreas: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9339652

Are you sure your doctor said it was ok? I don't know of any doctors who would say that.

Yes you're probably right, sorry, I was getting impatient :-)

Apparently if I engage in an activity that is irritating to the pancreas, I will feel some pain and discomfort in the area quite swiftly...but obviously this doesn't apply in all cases and the scenario I'm presenting may well be one where it does not.

For the record, I was planning to abstain from drugs for another month or so before trying this. Alcohol I'm off for 6 months. The more I'm thinking about it, the more it is seeming like doing the same for other drugs may be a good idea as well. I was shooting meth every 2-3 weeks for the last 8 months or so (with one or two longer breaks in there), to be honest I have suspicion that may have had a role in irritating the pancreas....

I didn't tell the doctor how frequently I used meth, or that I used it IV, perhaps he would have given a different response if I had been completely honest with him. But that was exactly what he said: stay hydrated, keep your intake sensible and you should be fine.

I think I might go speak to a GP about this whole situation.
