Misc injecting Heroin without the other ingredients (filter, lemon juice, heat)?

Don't cook it. You don't want it all to dissolve because that would in a bunch of cut that you are dissolving as well. Also micron filter is better than cotton.

If your friend has been smoking it for a few months...and now wants to try injecting...well I'd say she's proper fucked: she'll wrestle with that needle for the rest of her life: it's like something as banal as smoking cigarettes ...you hear people say, "I quite thirty years ago and I STILL want a cigarette."- well...I suppose you can't talk her out of it...

If she's really concerned about not injecting particulate filler etc into her precious, beautiful virgin veins then use a micron filter. It is a real concern- over time shit can end up damaging your heart valves, capillary beds, etc etc etc...(this coming from someone at their worst was pulling rain water out of basins in downtown portland and shooting up with it- there was only tar out west and god knows what they cut that shit with. Needless to say, I have no veins worth a damn left)

Not to mention that if you do decide to use a piece of cotton instead of a micron you could get cotton fever- the safest way to use cotton: 5ml syringe, presoaked/damp cotton at the bottom...trickle your dope shot into the 5ml syringe then, holding the syringe over a spoon (cause the minute you indent the plunger it will start to come through), depress said plunger slowly until you have "filtered" out your shot...this is a poor mans micron filter and probably doesn't do much...but its better than jabbing a needle in a piece of cotton and drawing up...bough said...I got the itches now

How it is done here is far from "Bluelight recommends for harm reduction purposes". A tip of a syringe (without a needle on it) is pressed hard into a small cotton ball dropped earlier into a solution in a spoon and one pulls the syringe's plunger. So one breaks all the rules possible. Cotton ball is most often made with fingers from a cigarette filter torn apart. Still junkies have worse "sins" on their conscience.

I understand that Adder, my post is just giving the most common method that you would inject number 4. I know that it's not a sterile method, but when done properly is fine. The biggest issue is clean needles, sterile cotton and clean water. Ideally you would have:

Clean needles (always the same), distilled water, Isopropyl for cleaning injection area, micron filters, pharmacutical grade heroin (Diamorph), a RN or phlebotomist to register the shot, and a sharps container to dispose of the used works.

I realize that the above is not really practical and that's why I made the post that I made. No, it is not the 'safest' method, but it's a lot safer than some methods I have seen, and that was the goal of my post, harm reduction, not harm prevention. Real harm prevention would be flushing the smack down the toilet.

Right. You never need heat.

The brown powdery substance you have is likely black tar cut with some lactose.

If you try and dissolve it in cold water and absolutely nothing dissolves then I suppose it could be freebase and you would need acid but try it without first.

Would heating until boiling for a few seconds, then allowing to cool back down, not be a good idea, as it could help kill off some bacteria if it were present, then allowing it to cool would mean the cuts that didn't dissolve when cold, would precipitate out? Best of both worlds?

Yes it would be a good idea unless the heat broke down the dope. The heat might not kill any bacteria but it wouldn't hurt in that department. In fact heating and then letting it cool back down (called recrystallization) would likely get slightly more dope into your shot (the stuff stuck in the filler crystals). Generally people aren't willing to wait the hour or whatever it takes to cool so we just say don't cook before (i.e. right before) banging.

It's surprising no one has said this yet - DO NOT use lemon juice! Here is why.

You do NOT need to add fruit juice!!! This is horrible and totally unnecessary.

If you need to add an acid, you can use pure citric acid, or pure ascorbic acid.

Cooking your shot in the spoon for a few seconds is pointless, as heroin is readily soluble in water, and in order to kill off bacteria, you need to boil water for at least 20 minutes !

It's a strange division. The most popular form of heroin in my country is brown powder heroin freebase (~10% purity) actually meant for smoking and it's supposed to contain caffeine. Now, the problem is this form is not listed above and this heroin addicts get here is transported farther into Western Europe. I know, thanks to geographical location countries westwards get more of Turkish yellowish heroin salt but I know the same stuff is available in e.g. Germany.

Yes, this one is from Afghanistan, that I know for sure, it gets here via "Russian" route. I never analyzed it for caffeine presence but people often say there's caffeine for smoking purposes. And actually there are quite many people who chase the dragon before ending up shooting up. However, I also once heard from one person that (s)he can't sleep after smoking heroin (let it be smoking for simplicity...) and (s)he attributed this problem to caffeine which is just impossible. In such quantities as caffeine is added to heroin it's not possible to feel any effects in background being high from heroin. Sure, coffee may sometimes be first aid when coping with an overdose but it won't help alone.
