Did my last stint on H last night with 2 other buddies.
Know for a fact i was clean beforehand.
Tar was pretty black and i didnt realize that the shot i thought was mine was one already used by my friend, with his registered blood inside. He missed, so he set it aside near my rig which was already drawn.
Stupid fucking lapse, and now im afraid. If i do have it i'm going to end my 2 year relationship because i refuse to transmit it to her. And i see no future there b/c we wanted kids and im not going to pass this on to children.

The one whose blood was injected has been tested previously for HEP C and was clean, but that wasnt recently, and he's been rooming and sharing equipment for a few months with a 4 year IV veteran who also claims to be clean. They ALWAYS use clean needles, never reuse, but they do reuse cookers and share them as well as cottons.

Im going to make them both get tested. Anybody know of free resources for getting tested in Texas?

Considering i injected at least 10 units of blood, how long would it take for me to test + if i have it? Is there a method to detect ANY amount of the virus, so that i could begin treatment asap if i do have it?
I've got plenty of problems as it is, including chronic pain, and my love of 2 years is the only thing that makes me happy with life. She's deeply in love with me, and there was no end in sight for us until last night. I plan to tell her later today. She is a BL member so i need to tell her before she reads this, in a few hours. Going to stick to condoms for the time being.

But again i refuse to stay with her if i have this disease and cannot clear it.
Also, is there a 100% infection rate of injecting infected blood?

Any input appreciated. What would you do?

Ps, done with heroin, got subs, am DONE with heroin. I never got too far in the hole, w/d's probably wont even be too bad. This occurrence has made me seriously reevaluate my life.
:(:(

Theres always a chance of Hiv id suggest getting put on retro virals. im not too knowledgable in this area but if u do get put on them it will be worth not having to die a slow death from something such as the common cold.

idk what can be done about hep c but look into it ur only wastin time

At the needle exchange in my city they give free HIV/Hep C tests which show the results within a couple minutes. Try that. If not at least tell them what happened and get a test later down the road when the virus becomes more detectable.

HIV wasnt even on my mind and i'm almost certain i needn't worry about that. This dude always uses cleans and claims to be clean of everything as does brother who confirms this, he went to rehab in the past and was clean of everything.
How long till the Needle exchange can detect, post exposure? Ill try and get the guy to go and get tested with me. Im sure he will oblige. I've never heard about the needle exchange doing this though.

HIV can be dormant or sub-detection threshold for up to six months. Hep C (IIRC) can usually be detected pretty quickly, as it's usually virulent as hell.

Good luck, and I hope that the outcome is good!

Its always better to be safe. hiv can take 5 to 10 years to even show symptoms.

something ive learned in my 21 years of life never trust anyone.

It depends what kind of NE you have in your city. In philadelphia we have one that is an actual building where addicts can come in, hang out, get new needles etc, get free HIV/Hep C tests, and a bunch of other services like detoxes and stuff. So you'll probally need to find one, if any, are in your city that does this. If not there are some free clinics in most big cities that will test for it for free as well.

never trust anyone.

Yep. Especially if they are in the drug using world. If his friend is sharing needles, cottons, spoon, water etc then there is a very high chance he has Hep C even if he isn't aware of it.

Our esteemed former President, the brilliant George W. Bush, wasn't a big fan of government-funded resources for drug users..... Texas is the wrong state in which to have done this. Unless things have changed radically in the past couple years, there are no official NEs in Texas.

I used to hear rumors of a mobile one in Austin, but this was years ago.

Follow Mariposa's link. Find a Community Health Clinic. If you are in Houston, there's one in Montrose.

Good luck. :)

Ah, wasn't aware he was from texas. I can see how that would be a problem there. :p

Yeah, that's putting it mildly.... just saw you're in Austin, OP. Best place (only place!) in that backward state to have something like this happen.

Are you a student? Could you avail yourself of the services of academically-related Health Care Organization? There are a lot of public services available during the chaos of the start of the academic year... even if you're not a student, Public Health would dictate you get screened.....

Then again, you are in Texas, at the end of the day. Good fucking luck.

(Seriously, PM me if you need to. I lived 30 crazy years in Texas. To say it's like a different fucking planet is a laughable understatement.)

Ok so after i read Mariposa's post i drove myself to the ER.
Told em it was like a one time thing pretty much, did it b/c my chronic pain and life was going bad and that this occurence scared the shit out of me and i never wanna fuck with drugs again.
Got a Script for TRUVADA ((combines two anti-HIV-1 medications, EMTRIVA® (emtricitabine 200 mg) and VIREAD® (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300 mg), into one pill that is taken once a day with or without food. ))
as well as took the 1st dose in the ER, somewhere around 20 hours after initial exposure.... they had me sitting there a good 2 hours before the meds came in, hope that isnt the difference..
crossing my fingers. I doubt the dude even had HIV, going to get him tested on thursday if he complys.

Trying to figure out what i'll say to rents. Cuz i cannot afford this. We've almost met deductable which is good, but i have a hunch the meds will be expensive, and pretty sure insurance wotn cover our meds. Might tell them i had sex with an HIV + girl instead of informing them of the needle.

Supposed to be shitty side effects, but i suppose its worth it. Unless the "friend" (not) tests clean in which case ill probably stop taking the pills. Well thanks for all the advice!

I am so glad you went to the ER, Dr Pepper. I know a few medical professionals (from phlebotomists to doctors) that got stuck by known dirty needles at work. None that I know of got any blood borne illness, and all were given the post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) pretty much the way you described.

Although yes, you'll have to go back in 3 and 6 months, I would bet that if this was a one-time deal, you will be just fine. It would be best to use condoms with your GF as an extra safety measure...

And yeah, the side effects are reported to suck... they suck less than having to take the meds for the virus! Good luck to you, man, we're all pulling for you and I, although not a doc or nurse, think your chances of becoming infected are quite low.

Thanks for the good wishes!
Fuck its about 1100 dollars for the 28 days of truvuda. Shit. Hopefully insurance will pay some, but they never help with medications in my experience.... im going to call and see right now. If they wont help, i plan to buy like 4 days worth right now (like 160$) since its all i can afford, and get more if my friend doesn't test negative on thursday. Actually, even if he is (-), ill probably keep taking them unless i get the other friend tested (4 year IDU) and also comes out (-), due to the window period. If they both test clean i can safely discontinue the meds, with doctors consultation of course. So hopefully pharmacy will let me not buy them all at once, that way if they are both clean ill save myself hundreds of dollars i dont have.

This is quite expensive lesson learned. Anybody else ever been on this stuff? Any interactions with suboxone or amphetamine (vyvanse) or cigs? Took a vyvanse today to try and get all this done while having to deal with school stuff (add/drop), parking permits etc as well as chores around house.

Going to taper off the subs, got 15mg, over a month.
1st number is MG, second is # of days. Ex: 4x8 = 4mg per day for 8 days

Days 1-11: Snorted< 50% bioavail.> 1.5x2, 1x3, .5x6 =9mg used, 6mg left
Days 12-29: Sublingual< 30% bioavail> .5x6, .25x4, .125x8 = 5mg used, 1mg left,
Day 30- No sub! 1mg suboxone left over incase for cravings, overdose reversal(unlikely); basically just to have just in case.

Yeah now im just worried about HEP C, nothing i can do about that is there?
I was mad that it took 3 hours from getting to the ER to get my pill, so instead of 18-21 hours from exposure it was 21-24. At least within the 1st 24 hours though, i read up to 72 can be effective but not past that. And that before 24, 36 were the BEST, while 48 hours post is still better than 72. After 72 there is no point, except to slow the inevitable spread.

Seeing my regular doctor on Thursday morning. Going to ask him about where to get friend tested also.
Also: took my 1st pill at 9:55 PM last night. Should i keep taking it at 10pm every day?
I hear it can keep you from sleeping and is best to take in the am. Would it be okay if i took today's at like 7, then tomorrows at 5, then so on until i get to the AM? Or should i just take todays when i get it filled and then take the next days' in the morning instead of gradually doing changing the time? Going to ask the doctor, and until then take them at the same time.
I just want to make sure there isnt a gap in the medicine levels where the virus (which most likely isnt there, friend was clean 3 months ago and is certain he still is) can recoup and build immunity.

And since my friend agreed to get tested on Thursday, hopefully i can find a way to do it free. A nurse i talked to said he would have to go to his doctor, but he isnt willing to spend any money. I might be willing to dish it out, in order to save money overall since the medicine is way more expensive i would think than a doc appt and STD Test.
Any Texans who wanna chip in(opinions, not cash :P) are very encouraged to do so!
There is an unofficial needle exchange van that goes around austin so if i can find them they will most likely either have the resources to test him or know the best place to have it done.
Will try planned parenthood and University Health services.

Thanks again for all the support!
Yes i plan to use condoms if i have intercourse with the girlfriend, she is being super supportive and awesome about the whole thing (hasnt broken up with me) and is glad that im done with dope and trying to do everything in my power to keep her safe and make this right, including the PEP treatment.
Well pray for me, im keeping fingers crossed!! Ya’ll are great!!
And THANK YOU Mariposa, you may have just saved the best relationship i’ve ever been in or could hope to have, and potentially my life and many others (if i end up having kids)!!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! To all others in my situation, BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY! Nobody wants to regret a decision for the rest of their lives; believe me i know.

Friend whose blood I injected just got tested at needle exchange dealie in TEXAS.
The results were (-) on HIV. Going to see documentation tomorrow.
The rest of the results (Hep C, etc) won't be in for another two weeks.
Does that sounds like standard protocol ? Instant test for HIV, 2 weeks for other stuff?
He claims they took 3 vials of his blood as well as his urine. Just want to make sure he isn't bullshitting, although his documentation should reassure me.
But still, GREAT NEWS! Im almost in the clear!!

Does anybody know what test they(needle exchange) use, and how big of a window period it has where the virus cannot be detected? I know conventional methods take 3 weeks at least before detectable, but im not familiar with the exchanges' method. Anybody? I plan to get the other guy tested as well, and if he comes clean i will stop taking these meds. I only bought today's and tomorrows, which costed 80 bucks. Got promethazine for the nausea. If i do the whole treatment it will be another 900 dollars plus some change. I'd like to avoid that.
Still dont know how im going to explain ER visit to rents... probably going to say that i had sex w a girl who was rumored to have an std (i found rumor after the "fact") and i wanted to make sure not to contract anything. But then i got her tested and she was clean.

If the guy whose blood got into me ends up coming back HEP C +, ill start interferon or something.
If the other dude comes Hep C + i assume guy 1 also has it, just not detectable yet, and will likely start interferon.
Well Thanks guys, things are so far so good!!

About the needle exchange testing: the one I went to had this little plastic thing which goes over one of your fingers and there's a needle on it and it pricks your finger a little to make it bleed and collects the blood in it and it must have some kind of way to have a reaction with something inside of it to tell if the antibodies of HIV are present in your blood or not. But because it hasn't been 6 months it might not even show up for it yet, did they say anything about that when you went there?

Huh he claims they drew blood.. ill have to see what type of "documentation" he shows me...

I've had another HIV test done before which an actual doctor in a Dr. office drew blood in a tube and sent it to a lab and got it tested but that took around a week to get the results back. The one I described at the needle exchange was a rapid test and there was no blood drawn. I cant comment on how the needle exchange works in your friends area so I'd just wait to see the documents.
