Injected Blood, End in Sight

HOw does the medication make you feel? I'm not up to date haven't read up on hep c treatment in years but people who weren't showing symptoms often end up very ill fro the treatment which put me off but i hear things are better now but like i said done no reading. How you feeling?

Don't feel too bad about how you contracted it, my so called mate stabbed me in the hand with his works and i am 99% sure he did it "accidentally on purpose". Then I was knocked back on treatment because I was on a meth script and was told to come back when I get off the meth... years later I am still on the meth.

Im on pegasys 185mcg 1x per weekand ribivarin 800mg (2 pills twice a day).
Riba gives me some temper issues but thats about it.
Been feeling more lethargic and very achy about 9 hours after the shot. But after yesterday's it wasn't so bad, and the doc says that they tend to get less and less. Im quite fit and young and am a fan of supplements especially dosing up on antioxidants right now to eliminate any free radical damage to my brain (read it could be an effect of interferon).
So that probably helps.
But honestly its been WAY EASIER than i had expected.
Although i've only done 2 of my 24 shots. So hopefully it stays easy.
WBC and RBC count is good as well as platelets, although i noticed it took a while for my arm to stop leaking a little blood after phlebotomist stuck me with the 21 gauge.. wat a fucker . He was like "oh this is normal it just looks big" . Gonna ask for a 25g butterfly next time because it looks like a fat ass IV mark.
Been smoking weed though a bit. Doc says it can increase fibrosis. He also says i have 0 liver damage. Most people seem to think its ok to smoke on it, and the studies i've read, albiet small, haven't shown any (-) effects from pot.
Kind of worried about my suboxone as i hear opiates can hurt immune function, currently taking about 1mg sublingual or .5 snorted every other day. After my final on wednesday im done with school and am going to stop the subs completely.

If i were you i'd wait til telepravir comes out next year and start TX with that, because it increases response rates from about 50 percent in genotype 1 to around 80%..
I'd also try to switch to subs if i were you because people on subs did much better than those on methadone during treatment. just some food for thought.
And your mate is an asshole. What a fucking prick that disgusts me.
I

Thanks that is great info, I will start reading, i'm actually just a 10ml a day reduction from transitioning to subs so that is a plus.

Damn man sorry to hear that turned out like it did. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise though. Hopefully you can clear the virus and in the long run you'll be hcv free AND dope free. That's what i meant by blessing in disguise. I know how it feels to have to go and get checked. The waiting is mental torture for sure. Keep us updated on how the treatment is going if your up to it. I'd be interested to know the outcome and the side efffects, etc. Peace bro.

Im doing pretty good. Went rock climbing yesterday and then did a bunch of lower body at the gym and am sore as fuck but it feels pretty good. Wonder if its even worth trying to gain muscle on this shit?

^^ Hmmmm, if I was you, I'd just wait until the treatment was all over and I was a given the all-clear before I started any rigourous training of any description. Light exercise is fine but I reckon you should just wait a bit longer before pushing yourself too hard.

Yeah, we're still together. She's gotten tested and is clean, thank god, i'd feel horrible otherwise. She is awesome and is being very supportive through this whole thing. Being very honest with her now which is all she wants. but she's truly a beauty and i love her. Sucked explaining to her parents, but alas, it had to be done .
Trying to remain optimistic, and she makes it possible.

Nice :)

I'm sure you'll come through this OK. Also think about the upside - in the process of this you've gotten clean and I'm sure gotten closer to your girl. This might end up being worth all the hassle!

Just updating.
Got my 4 week PCR back and there is no detectable HCV rna in my blood meaning the treatment owned it and i achieved "rapid virological response" which is defined as no hcv rna after 4 weeks of treatment. If you get RVR, you have over 90% chance of clearing without "relapse", which means it comes back.
Unfortunately have another 19 injections (1x per week), but at least ill be pretty sure to win this battle.

Excellent news man!! <3

It really makes me happy to know that there are still really smart young people like you out there. Kudos to you for all the decisions you have made up to this point and for being honest with everyone. You may have restored a glimmer of hope for me in the next generation haha.

I second Captain Heroin. Glad things went well.

I'm getting tested soon for Hep & HIV. I shared needles in the past(quickly bleached before every injection) & had symptoms of early HIV development, but it also could be symptoms of my withdrawals. It scares me to think that I might have it. Fingers crossed :(
Good luck! No matter what happens, there is a lot of help and support out there for you. I am wishing that your tests will be negative - best of luck!

I am so happy for you man! I can't imagine the realm of emotions you went through as a result of all of this. All in all I am so happy that you have such good odds at beating this. I have a lot of respect for you for sharing your story with us all.

Take care and stay safe! I also am glad to hear you look forward to exercising once this is all past you; Healthy Living is a great place to look into when you get there.

1 more shot to go of 24, this sunday.
Feeling great also, been working out a lot and feel fine.
Still undetectable :)
Sober 4 months except a lil bit of weed and a few drinks every week or 2. No more needles, ever, cant ever risk this bullshit again.

A paraphrased understanding of how the Hep C virus is transmitted so easily

isnt that curable though?

I don't believe it is for every case, although it is for some.

If you haven't read around, it is *very* easy to become infected with Hep C.

This could be potentially triggering but I think explaining why Hep C infections occur could prevent a lot of people from getting it.

Imagine two people with injection equipment. They have already used a needle and will reuse it (this is bad injection practice; please do not do this) - if you both use the same container of water to clean out your injection supplies, even if you clean it out with bleach afterwards, the Hep C virus will still be alive and present. If one person has it and the other doesn't, the one person with Hep C goes first, the source of bleach and water is contaminated. The tiny amount of blood on a used needle can go into any liquid supply it is in. A thorough cleaning of bleach will kill the HIV virus but not the Hep C virus.

So this way, even if people are only reusing their own needles - Hep C can still be easily transferred, without having to actually use a needle someone else used.

If you used a spoon to prepare a shot in, which someone with Hep C exposed their blood to (using the same spoon to clean out a used needle is an easy way for this to happen) - and their infected blood was in it just a day or two ago - it can still be in the spoon.

These facts make it almost an inevitability for some people with poor injection procedure to acquire Hep C, even when using bleach to clean out used needles. This is a sad reality that I hope more and more people can avoid in the future.

I have to emphasize getting tested every 6 months, for everything. My best friend, after having unprotected sex for 3 months with random people, has and unknown std (tests don't come back for a couple weeks) and found out that he's HIV positive.....alot to take in at once. I have always been tested every 6 months for my own peace of mind...and now that someone so close to me has HIV...I realize it really can happen to anyone.

Was he having unprotected sex with a lot of people, or just a small handful? I know this doesn't really say much in the grand scheme of things as it only takes 1 time to get it from someone. :(

It was only like 5 people...but still, when I think of HIV I think of random people who have nothing to do with me cause I didn't think it was all that common, not normal everyday people like my best friend. Honestly after someone that close to me getting it, I now have a sort of irrational fear about contracting it, even though I rarely have sex and I don't use needles from other people. Blah.
