Indonesian death row drug ring busted

Jakarta police have arrested 16 suspects and seized 8.2 kilos of crystal methamphetamine, 6,700 ecstasy pills, 2,300 ecstasy capsules and 1,100 "Happy Five" pills in a crackdown on a drug syndicate they claim was controlled by three foreign death row prisoners.

Lee Che Hen from Malaysia, Singaporean Tan Sualin and Nigerian Adame Wilson are suspected of running their illicit business from behind bars via mobile phones.

All three had previously been sentenced to death under Indonesia’s strict drug trafficking laws, according to the Jakarta Globe.

“Three suspects are inmates in Cipinang Penitentiary [in Jakarta], two are in Nusa Kambangan Penitentiary [in Central Java] and 11 others are outside prisons,” Jakarta Police deputy chief Brig Gen Sudjarno said on Monday.

“Don’t ask me how the cellphones entered their cells. Ask the prisons. As of now we haven’t found indication of prison [officers’] involvement.

“I hope their executions can be soon carried out because they have destroyed the lives of many young Indonesians with narcotics.”

Brig Gen Sudjarno added that police were still looking for three other suspects, including a Malaysian national believed to have imported the seized crystal methamphetamine from India.

“We’re coordinating with the Malaysian police to arrest the narcotics kingpin hiding in [Malaysia],” Sudjarno said.

“I hope their executions can be soon carried out because they have destroyed the lives of many young Indonesians with narcotics.”

Sounds ruthless and at the same time useless, since it will have no impact on the drug trade.

Yeah, it doesn't matter how many people are incarcerated or executed in the WOD's, there will always be people who will continue to sell and distribute the drugs, and of course many more people who will always continue to consume the drugs...

It's really sad for the peoples families and friends who wont see them again, because they are put down or locked up like dogs in an over crowded, dirty pound.

If killing people and sentencing them to 99 years doesnt stop drug trafficking, what will.

Proof that a zero tolerance drug policy no impact on stopping drug sales and use.

This is proof that people who use drugs are insatiable!
They won't even stop when they are on death row, waiting to die for drugs!
It is why we must have a war on drugs!

DRUGS = a word that, if defined based on the way the media uses it, excludes the use of caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco (and, often, prescribed pharmaceuticals, even if they are e.g. stimulants or depressants).

People believe the media slant, too, for the most part.

The phrase "to be on drugs" means something like "to act crazy" or "to be weird".
This is a metaphor that applies across English (and some other languages), in such expressions as
What are you smoking?
What are you on?
Are you high or something?

(used with the meaning "you are acting crazy/stupid/bizarre")

(You can say it in Chinese, too as in 他吸毒 ta xi du (lit. He smokes drugs) to mean he is acting crazy.)

Where is the metaphor that to be on drugs is to be pain free?
Or to be on drugs is to be creative?
Or to be on drugs is to have the energy to accomplish everything on the list and then still have more energy to get together with friends?
Or to be on drugs is to trip so hard that you open up emotionally and wipe the whole human slate clean, starting again with a better perspective and a more loving approach?

The funny thing is that, people in all societies in all eras of human history have used "drugs".
Animals use drugs as well.
It is really more "natural" to use drugs than not to use drugs, in some ways.
And those people on death row are going to die twice now, once for each drug dealing sentence :(

I know the death sentences are sad, but if you can put that aside, the Indonesian government is now suffering from an unexpected consequence of their laws. People on death row have nothing to lose, so now they are going to be organizing even more massive drug trade from within the country, courtesy of the government. And it's the government's own corruption that is supplying the prisoners with the means to conduct trade. lol... the prisoners have become trojan horses for more drugs. The irony is priceless.

Obviously drug money means more to the prison guards than the high and mighty morality of the government.

ive always wanted to try the eremin5 or happy 5 pills, i think the drug is nimetazepam or something like that. I wonder whats so good about it>? maybe its like the xanax bar of indonesia
