Heroin Increasing the BA of smoked tar with ammonia?

Hey- I tried posting this question a few days ago on an old thread (converting salt to freebase)- didn't get any reply so i figure i'd try it as its own solitary question... sorry if that's a breech of etiquette.

Anyway:

How easy is it to turn heroin hcl in the form of black tar into base?

I know about the filtering and cleaning process with a non polar solvent that yields clean heroin base from tar- but for a down and dirty (and way easier) conversion could one literally just stick a hit of dope to foil, add a drop or two of ammonia, swirl around, cook off the ammonia with a lighter, and end up with a hit of tar that had nearly twice the bio-availability smoked as it did prior to adding the ammonia?

if so:
How much ammonia would one have to add to ensure complete conversion of...lets say .1g?

Also, i assume baking soda wouldn't be preferable because of the added "cut" but would it work?

Black tar is very impure, and "clean" aqueous ammonia is kind of hard to find these days.

I was under the impression that b.t.h. is smokeable "as is" and basification doesn't really improve anything. It may actually hydrolyse it back to morphine.

Well, BTH is DEFINITELY smokeable "as is"

but I always thought it was still HCL- which even with the addition of adulterants to make it "smokeable" would have a lower BA than freebase (from what i've read). why would it hydrolyze and not convert to base?

I think if it is HCL it is more likely to be stable or not tar and more of a powder or a dry solid chunk. I bet the reason it becomes tar is not only the cuts, but because it absorbs moisture from the air possibly due to the acid they use to convert it from morphine into heroin. I have no idea though honestly.
