In my experience, I would say heroin and alcohol. Even with abusing these drugs chronically for long periods, they don't lose all their magic. They definitely lose some, maybe even most of it but even after being a heroin addict for years now, I still can get a good high when I shoot up a large dose.

This is in contrast to drugs like weed, benzos and cocaine which after heavy use lost so much of their enjoyable effects and/or gained so many side effects that they became not worth using.

I could see how someone might put weed into the former category though, because it actually did last quite a while for me. I just abused it so heavily.

But anyway I just think that when it comes to long term use, day in day out heroin and alcohol are the best in terms of continuing to give a strong effect.

For me heroin and alcohol lose their "magic" rather quick. Weed and real cocaine(believe it or not) seem to stay "magical" longer.

depends on frequency of use, I'd think.

even though I've had many mornings after drinking when I'm all "uggghhh I'm never drinking again" I still rely on alcohol a good deal when it comes to fun or stress relief.

I'll categorize:
  • [*]Opiates/Opioids:Methadone & Buprenorphine-While you won't continue to get stoned off your ass like you might the first few days upon being inducted, if you keep your dose low with both of them, I've found that I can consistantly get a really nice mood lift off of both of them, something that can't be achieved with shorter acting opiates like heroin for example. even when I'm not Dependant on heroin, I can only get high on a set dose for maybe two days before I need to do double it.

[*]Benzodiazepine's:Alprazolam-yeah, I feel like I'll get flamed for this, but IME, Xanax is the only benzo that can give me continuos anxiolytic effects for a long period of time without raising the dose. I use to think this was impossible but last summer I brought 45mg of alprazolam with me when I went to work on a farm for a month in North Carolina. I limited myself to 1mg/day for a month and a half, ad surprisingly, my fear of running out of benzo's while living on a mountain gave me the discipline to really keep to once a day dosing. What was amazing was that I felt just as good on day 45 from 1mg as I did on day 1, and I wasn't feeling like shit the rest of the time either. I've done this with longer acting benzo's like clonazepam and after a day, if I don't double or tripple my dose, I'm litterally just maintaining.

Take into account that I've only tried maybe ten different benzo's so I'm sure there are better ones, but out of all that I've used, Xanax has always been superior.

[*]Stimulants:Cocaine- I feel as though I just have always had a set tolerance for blow, where if I take less, I won't get high, and if I take more, I'd just overdose. This could very well be due to the fact that I always shot it, but I don't know. With good cocaine I can keep getting bellringers off of approximately the same dose with no need to raise it over the course of a shooting session. With other stims my tolerance will go up really rapidly.

Weed (Set & Setting for me; the happier I am when I smoke, the higher I get!)
Amphetamine (I was able to obtain euphoria on a daily dose of 40mg for about 4 hours every day for about a month and a half before I had to take ONE day break ;)

Not opiates for me. Lose their magic a week into abusing them for me now. Side effects from increasing dose further and further just completely not worth it.

I'd have to go with valium or xanax. Always does the trick at curbing anxiety and providing euphoria, no noticeable "awful" side effect profile as doses increase apart from withdrawal, but who cares when you're chomping 15mg or 300mg of valium.

Heroin. It never gets old. You get really dopesick then bam relief.

No matter how sick you get of the routine the rush from iv'ing feels perfect.

I would have to say that, for me, amphetamine salts (adderall) took longest to lost its magic. I abused adderall for a good year before it lost its magic, taking it regularly, every day... staying up for days without sleep.

But then it lost its magic, and once it did, well... :( it was a sad, sad day.

The heroin rush might still be there with IV but you lose a lot of the other effects. I bet you guys who got addicted to dope don't nod for 8 hours like you used to when you first started. Nowadays it's more like an hour or two nod with a noticeable come down where you start fiending for more. That 8 hour nod never came back for me either; even if I stayed clean from everything for a year I'll be fiending 3 hours after I do a shot.

Every drug lost its magic for me except alcohol. But I've never been a daily drinker or even the kind of person who drinks 2 days in a row. I could see how an alcoholic wouldn't feel the same way.

I don't think mushrooms will ever lose their magic for me. Every other substance did lose its magic for me at some point, because as years pass your personality changes, and as you lose interest in certain experiences, you become curious of others....
Shrooms are just divine.

Alcohol has never lost its magic for me. It is by far my substance of choice ever since my body can't handle anything too hardcore anymore.
Stimulants lost the magic pretty fast, as I built tolerance.
DXM, when I abused it like crazy, lost the magic fast and was never the same again, even after a long time of not using.

Alcohol doesn't loose any magic because it has no magic ;)

GBL's good effects probably lasted the longest for me. Haven't had any in a while & a 1/2litre is arriving tomorrow, so that should be fun!

Well, for me it was cocaine. It only lost its magic because it lost me all my money. If I was a millionaire I would probably be like Charlie Sheen and would be on it 24/7. If I could afford to take them non stop I don' think cocaine would ever lose its magic, and I think I would find a nice a opiate to take to send me to sleep. I could happily do that until I got old and died if I had the money.

At the moment I am a big fan of Poppy Pod Tea but I build a tolerance too quick so I can only do it occasionally after taking long breaks or I just can't ingest enough to get high.

Z-drugs take quite a while to lose their "magic", I've found. Some might argue that they don't have any recreational value, but 10mg of Zolpidem a night provided me with a very strong euphoric haze for well over a year until I started to notice any tolerance.

For me...stimulants and weed...but everybody is so diff. when it comes to this. MY tolerance to opiods shot up after ONE use...yes...ONE use... i had to do almost twice as much the next time.

the only drugs that haven't lost any of their magic for me are benzos and weed. with that said, I'm addicted to opiates and love them but they have certainly lost some of their shine to me.
