In so much pain, my prescriptions stink, is there a legal "alternative" for pain?
Ok, I've got several spinal and pelvic deformities which cause severe pain 24-7 and has been slowly getting worse as the years pass (first started having off & on back/hip pain in 1997, and finally got so bad in 2004 that I couldn't work anymore), and a couple years ago my doctor also diagnosed me with Fybromialgia. I've tried just about every medication for inflammation and mild/moderate pain that's ever been on the market. My doctor finally settled me on:
Percocet 10/325 (prescribed every 8 hrs, but only lasts 2-4hrs),
Valium 5mg (prescribed every 12hrs, helps a tiny bit but mostly just makes me sleepy),
Zanaflex 4mg (prescribed 3pills 3 times a day, doesn't seem to help at all), and
Savella 100mg (prescribed 2 times a day, seems to help a little).
This combination is just enough to allow me to make short walks in my house, but I'm mostly still confined to my bed. My body has gotten used to this combination, but it's better than nothing. I've tried talking to my doctor, but as soon as I start talking about my medications not working like they used to, he'll either cut me off and say "no more medications" or he'll tell me I've just got to deal with it. He's already told me this is a life-long problem that will only get worse, so I understand he doesn't want to put me on the strongest medications right now knowing I'll have pain for the rest of my life (I'm 39). I just feel stuck with just having to "deal with it".
I'm just desperate to get rid of some of this pain!!! I actually saw a show about bath salts and wondered if that would be something to try, but there's just way too much negativity surrounding it & I think most of those were people just wanting to get a high. I just want some pain relief--I'm not going to lie, if I had a slight buzz with some pain relief I wouldn't complain as long as it didn't make me sleepy.
If there's anyone out there who could give me some idea's about what I could try, please let me know.
BTW, I've already tried the obvious--physical therapy, heating pads, chiropractors, topical creams, etc., and also I live in a state where marijuana is not legal in any way so that won't help.
Any information would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
DSK
