IN, Indianapolis - Every Sunday - Propaganda - Andy Austin & guests @ The Vogue

or another no-school/no-work-three-day weekend.

don't really think that is the overall problem with turnout (ok, for some maybe). I personally haven't witnessed any physical flyers - granted I don't venture out too much and pay even less attention...but from what I see on the web versions, there really aren't many details about much of the rest of the night. All I can tell from this weeks flyer, is Slater is playing, doors open at 9 and there are $1 wells. No other definitive list of who/what is playing and/or when anyone is playing.

And back to the day of week situation - you'd think Sunday's would work out nicely for the 'drinking' contingent - what with the $1 wells and the fact that Indiana is dry outside of bars/clubs on that day. However, last week there was the contest against the Colts/Titans game - which could have had something to do with it.

gonna get some flyers tonight so that i can do this. also, back in september, he had a monthly lineup flyer. one was made for october but never printed that i recall, but i agree that it's a good idea. i'll mention that to him.

Propaganda is over. Vogue pulled the plug under it's new General Manager.

wanna thank those who came to check it out over the last few months. last night's show had a pretty good sunday turnout to go out on, and Andy and Slater had awesome sets. unfortunately, the spark of Boing never quite got relit.

Ah, well . . .

being a participant in the business end of juxtapoze I saw first hand what it took to make our rag-tag weekly stay afloat. let's just say its way more work/drama than most realize...u would think just getting the word out on the coat-tails of local dj's, the venue itself and the internets would be enough...but its not. you have to get your hands dirty and hustle, bullshit and politick not to mention have real flyers out in advance of the month ur promoting. and still none of that guarantees any success. u get what u put in...and apparently andy didn't put in enough.

u would think just getting the word out on the coat-tails of local dj's, the venue itself and the internets would be enough...

You didn't *really* think it would be just as easy as that, George, did you?

So . . . when those other nights failed -- when the ones that were once popular crashed and burned, and when the many nights that started simply puttered out and died before they even had a chance -- to what did you attribute the failure?

lack of passion, work-ethic and business sense would prob be the crux of the downfall. it doesn't help the the 'scene' is full of 'what have u done for me latelys' that always seem to somehow undermine the aforementioned bottom line. that's just my opinion so its not the answer to the riddle...but case in point: KiD went the fuck off because slater/john and co. really put a lot of heart into it. they spammed everybody w info and details, they played their hearts out and even booked some out of town talent to break the monotony...u felt like u were part of something special when u were in there and it felt good for awhile. u can't deny me that...that 'vibe' is the glue that holds your weekly together. u can front on that, throw money/gimmicks at ppl to keep them hooked and for the time being it might hang around like a smokers cough but without the positive energy of solidarity/unity it will continue to crash and burn.

So when you said this--

u would think just getting the word out on the coat-tails of local dj's, the venue itself and the internets would be enough...
--just I simply miss the sarcasm?

Because I'm thinking I did.

base support is also a big part of it,having a large group of friends that are already there at the first event is a big propup for the rest of the crowd that loves a party, without that its an uphill battle, and the 10% of the people that love the complexities, tech &music itself aren't enough to support a venue that is more concerned on paying the overhead, specially since indiana has corridored the music to bars.the vogue was a very tall order, and having the group that is there for good music isnt enough to fill the place, while unfortunatly its packed on a wedsday for top 40,most are there for the crowd not the music..the difference of being scene not herd.

I have found that people in this city (in general) are afraid to step out of their comfort zone and try new things. Even within "our scene" (if I dare use "our"). We have a lot of sub-genre elitists and venue snobs who would rather stay home than come check out DJ xyz because he plays house, and they like dubstep. Or if he plays dubstep, they don't really care for the venue. lol (not so lol)

For some, it's easy to find a million reasons NOT to come out.

Then there's the herd, mentioned above, who still believe the generic stigmas associated with "that techno/rave" music, that's been lingering since the 90's.

I've found that Indy's herd is quite behind the times in relation to other cities. Hundreds of cookie cutter bars spewing top 40 and/or cover bands.

Take Broad Ripple, for example, where you can literally walk out of one bar and into the next, only to hear to same exact song being played.

I don't get it, to be honest. Very little variety and they don't care. lol

I sense some jaded cynicism...case in point: the flock don't know where to find the water source without the shepherd(s) leading them to it. now you can go out there with a shepherd's crook and a dog but that doesn't mean they will arbitrarily follow. repetition, reward over risk for the lambs and general confidence mixed with some passive authority gets you the respect your herd needs to be commanded. problem is (and always has been) too many wannabe peter pipers lead them to oversaturated 'sources' instead of unilaterally joining forces to ensure the flock stays tended, happy and oblivious that they're serving our purpose instead of their own. its called symbiosis.

No, not really jaded. Just commenting on my observations of those who are. Maybe not so much "jaded" as extra-selective in an already relatively small scene, perhaps. I guess that's the point I was trying to make.

And I like your use of "joining forces" and "symbiosis". haha

You're right.
