IN, Indianapolis - Every Sunday - Propaganda - Andy Austin & guests @ The Vogue

I have to agree with G on this one. Gotta put in to get out. Make yourself unavoidable. Be out there in everybody's face with your brand.

I think that's a large part of the success we're having with Juxtapoze. So many people are heavily involved and therefor out talking about it without necessarily intending to... just word of mouth.

Variety is a big thing to. EDM is repetitive by nature. So you've gotta have noticeable differences in your dj's... otherwise it sounds like one noise all night. And I think that's enough to drive anybody away.

... just thoughts.

I have found that people in this city (in general) are afraid to step out of their comfort zone and try new things. Even within "our scene" (if I dare use "our"). We have a lot of sub-genre elitists and venue snobs who would rather stay home than come check out DJ xyz because he plays house, and they like dubstep. Or if he plays dubstep, they don't really care for the venue. lol (not so lol)

indy has about 9 years worth of damage done...if you've ever watched certain shows people all circle around the dance floor like its high school, until they start drinking and loosen up.something to be said about the mentality of the general public, too worried about being cool, instead of just having fun. electronic music is so great because there are so much variety..people should try new things simply because they never have..get some life experience

tho im usually limited by lack of funds:(

a cultural bombarding couldnt hurt..somewhere in the thick of the mainstream culture..the industrial crowd had a fetish show a long time ago that was at tru nightclub, craploads of booths from chicago, lots of djs,2 rooms, some entertaining freak shows..still had some happy mediums to keep the general crowd happy, probably cost alot between everybody, but everybody in the neighberhood was there..

i think that was back when it was Eden, though the industrial/EDM "Revenge" show a few months back at Tru accomplished about the same with even less. it drew a huge broadripple crowd by stepping outside of the general flavor of the Industrial sound and playing a more club-orientated sound, without alienating the crowd it originally capered to. when you have a bunch of goth kids dancing alongside the standard broadripple crowd without any drama, you've done something right. this is why i think Juxtapose has been a lot better than Konkrete, simply because the flexibility in sound has brought in people who had no interest in an all jungle/dubstep night, while keeping the original crowd in with it's inclusion in almost every show.

correct. though i think that show was alot bigger, its not needed really to get that effect. the electronic music crowd should be able to defend itself from the college bars ideah of "techno"..show em what its really about..get everyone together again..

honestly, the diversity is only about 50% the equation. There is a lot of effort we put into making Juxtapoze work, and on a Tuesday no less...it's not just a 'oh, lets do a night' thing. And any upstart 'might be' promoter would be wise to realize this.

oh, i don't deny this. i just think that diversity was instrumental to taking it to the next level, but believe me, i know that you guys have busted your ass on many fronts to make that shit work. last night's show was highly indicative of that.

Yeah...what JinXs said.....

I think if anything, we were laying out the contrast between Propaganda and Juxtapoze. ;)

fair enough...we're all in this ship together. Our crew is doing our thing and trying to make Indy relevant on the map once more by opening minds to what is available to them :)

wtf edm?

haha

Hey, Konkrete Jungle was going pretty well. Especially if you consider the 'promoter/founder' wasn't really promoting. We still had a good 30-50people out for that night.

Unfortunately it was mismanaged ( and a lot of people played the 'I dont like the promoter so I don't support the artists and the night). But now we've been able to step into a void that has developed with the closing of Therapy and a few other things. Variety has been a big part of that. But relentless promotion is key more than anything.

People are more open to shit than I think most of us realize. It just has to be packaged and made appealing to people outside the obvious market.

Or maybe Juxtapoze is just the shit!!!

...turnouts in Bripple / everywhere

too worried about being cool, instead of just having fun.

& That is the crux of the entire issue. The Cause, however, may be deeper then any of us can fully grasp........but some of us are trying. The very foundation of their consciousness is (in some very astounding ways) different from "US". To be put simply: They are worried about being cool. But ! It goes even deeper than that......It appears that the social boundaries that are currently stagnating (not just EDM) ALL music scenes is the result of a sociological manifestation of Intense-Self-Imposed-Cultural-Skepticism.
At first I was just like: STRATIFICATION ! An mp3 generation with so many choices that edm gets lost in the mix and it just seems 'played'. Then I was like: perhaps the 'new'- upcoming fresh upstart party goers have had a notion or directive imparted to them so as to brainwash these people into not being into it.
However, when I ask myself truly what it must be i come up with this:
They Are Scared Shitless. Reset the average ENLIGHTENMENT/ OPENMINDEDNESS of the average person in that age group to about 1955. Definitely sometime before the 60's. Sure I bet the system has something to do with a bit of brainwashing but mostly a capitalistic society is pretty good at brainwashing themselves based mostly on: $ & the lack there of. As far as my life experience indicates most people are totally smart, yet act and appear fucking retarded. Plus+ all of us whether we know it or not have some sort of internal-subconscious-super-awareness (notice: Awareness, not intelligence per say ) Look at the current financial collapse. We all know they are lying. The economy is screwed and these kids are Aware of that. Aware subconsciously of serious shit hitting the fan in not so distant future. Not to mention their social proving grounds are NON PHYSICAL in nature: VideoGames, Internet,Cellphone. Couple this with an infinity of HATERS handing down their hateraid (everywhere) & you have a recipe for people to think:
"Fuck it, I'll go be myself online." Americas youth: socially inept and alone all over again. They see their futures as being dependent on maintaining a VERY specific course down a VERY narrow line to a place of success and prosperity, the ramifications of which they don't full understand because they seem to have no sense of: When you get fucking old whether you want to or not you cant go back to youth. Youth is a dangerous fucking maze of vulnerability !(or so their taught) .............then looking back its a beautiful place of potential and experimentation. I believe it has something to do with: Progressive Word Implication Mutation. Example: 1955: experimentation = RISK____1968: experimentation = potential____2009: experimentation = RISK again. Remember that big plate of "American-Dream" bullshit we didn't eat ? Well however "HIP" we wanna think the new gens are...........they think their getting 'theirs' and EDM = Dancing = experimentation = RISK = I am Scared. Its all connected. That's just the younger peeps - It just seems the "Veterans" are all broke or have no time tryin to get unbroke or cant find a babysitter. This is mostly an analyzation of people here in Indiana and the " lag time" from what's cool on the costs took a turn into the exponential recently ........again....internet.....all they see is that people just like them in San Francisco have a "Profile"Page and a blackberry with a touch-screen "just -like-me"..... so there is no lag time now everyone is just pitifully SQUARE....not know ing that real MFs in real Cities don't look forward to a future of rock, country music, popped collars or massive useless SUVs. Consequently most older Fans are Seriously POOR or avoiding such. All of these factors add up to having poor turnouts in Broad Ripple, or as I call it now: 'BROripple". Diversity ? Not sure.....If anything in such a climate LESS Diversity and ADAMANT SECRECY may make them wonder........what's goin on in there......? Force the RISK........it provides the illusion of great reward......................= )

slow down..

more just ..people sweat the small stuff, prioritizing the image over the music, and missing out on fun,or oppertunities they could be having because they're worried about what people might think. not to mention, cheap tricks to lure women into clubs..women in clubs= men in clubs..=full house..money promotes bad music to boost record sales..therefore you hear the same song 5 times hopping from 6 clubs on broad ave...

you buy 3 local radio stations, play scouse house 24/7 on em,and see how the local culture drastically changes in 4 years or less..
