I heard that Kyle went in and fixed it. I only hope he gave some pointers to them on the basics (like not turning it off all at once).

By the way, I hear Bill will be mixing video as well. Should be interesting.

Was in there a couple of hours ago and it sounded as good as I've heard that building sound. However I have no clue who will be 'in control' of it as the night goes on. eeek.

look out pulse...here we come!

=D

yeah i heard the sound was good too from someone who is already there. We are getting ready and will be there shortly!

sounded MUCH better than last weekend when we were in there. Place was PACKED. I was less then impressed with BBB but he plays what gets him paid. I can respect that. I have a day job to pay the bills so I can play more of what I want when I play out. Good to see the place packed for sure! and only minor ear ringing, nice work Jason

Complete DOUCHE fest! On top of that I got ripped off at the bar, I was charged $8.00 for a domestic beer & a water.... I later found out that my beer was $3.00 "which is fine" water was $4.00 "WTF?" & I was charged an extra dollar that went god knows where. They'll have to bring something pretty big to get me back in the door.

it was a blast. sounded way better than i expected. looked great. if they can keep this up ill be elated :)

and im grouchy most of the time

FWIW

much better than i expected...there are of course things that need to be worked on logistically but for the most part i got my $10 worth. in an effort to spare everyboy the semantics i'll just say that it was a success from a customer's point of view :) from a managerial/business perspective i'm sure there was a lot left to be desired, but...you have to spend money to make money.

i'll give it a B <3 could've been better but good enough for the time allotted to promote, etc.

interested in seeing what's next...

I was definitely skeptical leading up to this but I must say the event exceeded my expectations. The room sounded GREAT (besides the drumming of Meltdown which I will never be a fan of) and the decor was much improved. The floor was painted, I liked the hanging screen in the main room and the lounge has a nice booth. Oh and the mirrors behind the bar was also a nice touch.

I will say that they need to get a legitimate P.O.S. system to run the bar. That has not changed and it was chaos back there. They ran out of just about every domestic by 2:30 and Im not sure how the liquor held up.

When I went to close my tab, neither my credit card or index card with my drinks on it could be found. I was starting to freak out, nervously watching the bartender search for my stuff and after at least 5 minutes, I saw him pick up my card which was just laying haphazardly under the register amongst the mess. It looked like he just randomly grabbed someone's tab (which didnt have a credit card attached to it either) and tried to pawn it off on me. Melody and I had 8 domestics during the night. This tab had like 5 yager bombs, some stoli/red bulls and a few beers and had the name "Mason" at the top. I called the dude out and he ended up not charging me for anything at all. He was apologetic about the situation and Im not upset about it. After all, I know exactly what its like back there so no hard feelings. However, the bar issue most definitely needs to be addressed.

Overall I had a great time and look forward to attending more events at Pulse. <3 I only hope they get the bar straightened out and LOSE THE DAMN DRUMS! I like electronic music. Thats why I go to shows. Not to hear a shoddy drummer....

I would also like to add another observation. I know that most locals in the loop steer clear of bluefight due to the frequent nay-saying and trash talking...most of those ppl just can't digest that the internets is serious business which leads them to dismiss bluelight discussions as a bunch of assholes trashing everybody and everything for the sake of being know-it-alls. but, underneath the never-ending battle of wits, there is definitely a wealth of valuable information in regards to the quality of the event in question. remember we are all jaded and burned out from the failures of promoters/venues past but what we do share is fairly large wealth of experience with dj'ing, raving, promoting and a general knowledge of good electronic music. after all the griping about the venue, the initial price of BBB and everything in between someone noticed and compensated accordingly. I think that willingness to comply with our likes/disikes shows me that perhaps indy has a fighting chance...still a lot of work to be done but at least we're working together to make the most out of what we got.

which leads them to dismiss bluelight discussions as a bunch of assholes trashing everybody and everything for the sake of being know-it-alls.

But . . . the only people who read Bluefight are the know-it-all assholes.

;)

But in all seriosness, how many people there do you think actually reads Bluelight? That said, there does need to be an Indy board where there is promotion of events that's not tied to a drug-board. Others have mentioned this; maybe it's time we consider it?

(besides the drumming of Meltdown which I will never be a fan of)

I'm glad I'm not the only person who feels this way.

I've more to say -- and far more positive -- but since this was brought up.

I really wish that Joe would get together with a DJ and iron out a performance. (Matt, are you down?) That way, said DJ can just drop a simple beat, maybe loop it for however long, and let Joe Meltdown go to town ala Sheila E. That's what needs to happen.

Not pounding on the drums during a tribal-y track -- Hey, it's in there.

Not doing that open-hi-hate (intentional) nonsense -- Hey, it's in there.

And certainly not posing like he done did something and added something to a track when -- Hey, it's in there.

God dammit, Joe Meltdown

For real.

Now, I'm all for adding live instrumentals to a dj performance. Slappinfunk and Squarepusher playing the live bass . . . awesome; K-Step knocking out the live guitar thrash . . . schweet; Kenny Sutton and his live keyboardist, Gene Ferris and his live saxophone, and yes, even Translucent with his trumpet . . . ? Dude, I'm all for it.

But it's gotta make sense.

It's gotta add something that's, well . . . not already there. Imagine a Dj playing Andy Funk's "Sax Jammin" and then having a saxophonist playing the sax at the same time. B A L D E R D A S H ! ! !

I would love for Joe to get with a DJ to create a performance of some sort whereby his drumming is planned. Hell, maybe Joe should start DJing?! Then he could at least understand that what he is doing, adding elements that are already in the flippin' track, is simply silly.

And annoying.

And he was off to the side, again.

Which is annoying.

So . . . yeah . . . I'm done.

I had fun and have more to say about how much fun I had, later.

I've been working on some schematics for a new app to do just that (well, not entirely new...uses good bits of GNU code as well as custom), and be extensible to surrounding 'scenes' - but still a community at its heart. Think facebook meets phpBB for the rave scene.

perhaps I've said too much.

There are enough dead boards already. Unless it's something truly innovative, splitting the community is never a good thing.

i think it'll serve far more personalized service than any regular 'board' could do. I'll go into more detail once I've gotten the full roadmap laid out and what it is going to take.

but, if I just wanted to make another dead board, that'd take 10 minutes of setup

There are enough dead boards already. Unless it's something truly innovative, splitting the community is never a good thing.

But the question is: how much of a community is it?

How many clubbers are still using this board?

I see the same people posting every day, which doesn't necessarily preclude people from coming on and looking at the forum without ever logging on or registering . . . but like, Bad Boy Bill . . . the question stands: how many people there know Bluelight?

How many people show up at Tru or Blu because they saw a post on Bluelight?

I'm sure there are a few, but I doubt anything to be concerned with 'splitting a community' over.

Am I wrong?

We need some statistics!!

I'm excited for the idea of a new . . . something-or-other . . . there's been talk with the other promoters about this, I know, but I think Jimmy takin' it by the cock is a good thing!
