If I'm spending $20 to go to Thera..err, Pulse (which I've never done, not even for Dieselboy/Shortee/etc) I'd hope the sound was worth it.

With all of the equipment currently there, it has potential to sound very good, but it is in desperate need of someone knowledgeable enough to configure it correctly to make it sound good. Dave & I did a tag set there last night and there was a very loud hum throughout the entire night. I'd be willing to look at it when the place is closed and try to isolate it, but they'd probably be in better hands if Adam, Seth, or anyone that actually has experience working with that set of hardware taught them how to properly configure and manage it. Also, they should make sure that random patrons aren't running up to the side booth and messing about with the console settings.

*side note* Before heading to Pulse, I cought Manic's early bird set at Tru and he FUCKING TORE IT UP, and as an added bonus, Seth's sound there was excellent.

you really don't wanna try to jump into that booth man. It's pretty hardcore, too bad I deleted the instructions on running it, oops. lol One of the smaller speakers they have sitting on a sub is clearly blown, the hum was ridiculous, I watched said patron walk into the sound booth and crank the mains. All in all, work needs put in for sure. I have about 5-10 ideas that would make that room sound well again, they aren't free though :\

Agreed! After I got done playing, the monitors were close to no sound at all and it was still loud as hell. I'm glad I still have ears. Oh, and get this. When they shut everything down, the BARTENDER just turned the whole equipment off with one switch. Shit POPped everywhere!

Gizzmo: I heard he is in desperate need of finding somebody to work the sound for BBB and he's willing to pay...

Somebody help for the sake of our ears, Plz.

I'm the 1st to admit I have no clue when it comes to that stuff. I'm certainly not going to touch it without a "specialist" there. haha
 
a week or 2 ago, me and john got rid of the hum and showed uriah how to fix it. not too surprised its all hummy again though... also, last i heard, they still had their monitors running into the sound booth and not the dj mixer.. wtf mate?

yeah i agree with this statement.

i expected a lot more with all the hype surrounding fusion 3.0's big unveil. unfortunately it's the same old song with this space :( even though therapy threw a bunch of money at it it still wasn't what it should've been for what they put into it. we all know that was more of a mismanagement/logistics issue. so, to spare everyone the semantic diagnosis perhaps i will just share an opinion instead and see if anyone concurs.

first observation: random patrons/punters should NEVER EVER EVER be able to manipulate the soundboard. we have this problem A LOT at the mel with our rag-tag set up and it always ends up creating a problem with the sound levels throughout the entire night. not only is bad for the equipment but, especially in the case of last night, could be dangerous to someone's hearing. what if someone's drunk intentions of turning up the levels jacked the booth all the way up while a dj had their headphones off trying to cue their record off the monitors??? seriously could damage someone's hearing along with blowing a tweeter...no win epic fail issue right there. i hope that never happens. ever.

second observation: see first observation. amending the first observation with another fact that i have been to nightclubs all over this country and imo smartbar is probably one of my favorite venues ever. not once have i ever witnessed some party participant jack with the sound levels. and if that ever happened, even once, i can say it's a safe bet that the manager of smartbar that night would probably get fired or reprimanded. i think that's a probably a no-brainer in any industry where quality control is supposed to stay in the hands of the management, not the patrons.


i think the space has potential...a lot of potential just like therapy. unfortunately, it's just like having an intensed relationship with a lover. it's always one sided but you keep coming back to get hurt, hoping that they might figure out why you love them in the first place. so...this is the third time around with this spot. i love electronic music. and i have said before that i love all of our local dj's that i know share the same affinity for the scene and the music that powers it...i just don't see that same motivation powering pulse, just like it inevitably didn't with therapy.

i hope i'm wrong.

good luck to uriah and co. with pulse. i don't wish to see this opportunity fail for anyone involved with it because indy still needs a dedicated venue for the cause...i hope you can make this place what you say it is.

i think fusion 3.0 needs a big "scene" hug despite it's shortcomings. maybe if we all band around the venue like everyone seems to have done with Juxtapoze perhaps we can finally get the space our scene deserves.

personally i see for the first time in a LONG time that Indianapolis has a fighting chance...and a major part of that is the solidarity between crews that put on the shows to entertain the city with dj's/artists promoting their respective flavor of music. stand together or die alone...
