An old one I wrote titled "What is Like"
What Is Like - September 29, 2004
What is like, the existence that enchants us to one
Yet effectively pulls another away
What makes one smile worth so much
Possessing years, perhaps days...
All in that smile, the hand, a voice
A guilty tingle, feeding the soul
They grow together, learn, and teach
Is it both at one time
Speaking inside, pulling outwardly
That tingle, the guilty yet sinless pleasure
That looks forward to each waking day
Together we speak, forming words with no sound
But it's there... this too I know
Is it just one, a hungry soul beckoning another
Taunting, in the smile a magic spell
Drifting, seeking, creeping
Pulling inward, grasping another
What is it, the question unanswered
What to ask, what to say
For now we stay content
The smile, the hand, the voice
What is like, time shall tell
I smile, I know it's in you
In me, in you, together
Always.
