So I've read that amphetamine compounds can (temporarily) damage your immune system, so obviously, if I've got a cold etc.. I don't do pills. I had one pill left on Friday so I figured that I might as well rail it and get a good buzz out of it. I was totally fine before, felt well in my self. Everything went well, good fun was had by all. But the next day I felt like absolute shit! I'm now just feeling that I'm starting to recover. It was some nasty ass bug! So the question is... Does insuffilating the pill damage your immune system more than just swallowing it? Because obviously there are a lot of nasties up there :\

I am not aware of any studies that show that mdma damages your immune system.

Being tired and physically in poor condition can make you more susceptible to diseases but that is a bi product of mdma..........ie from being tired.

When you take MDMA your white blood cell count is practically halved. It recovers quickly though.
But this is why not to take MDMA if you're sick, or WERE sick but aren't QUITE right again. You will get very sick again very quickly.

at a rave earlier this year, EVERYONE i know who popped (including myself) got some kind of nasty bug or sum crap.. and it took SOO long 2 go away :( no1 who stayed off pills got sick (that i know of anyawy)

Would you mind showing some facts to go with that assertion please?

That information amazes me just as much as when i heard Hitler was given daily intravenous injections of methamphetamine by his doctor.

I posted a link to a study on MDMA's effects on the immune system within the past month, but I can seem to find it. It concluded that it does have significant immunosuppresant effects. As far as sniffing it goes, I don't think that would be any different than swallowing it.

Hmm really interesting topic, last two times i`ve taken E I`ve gotten a slight cold and was wondering if there was a connection.

About the study do you remember if they found there was an added strain beyond that which is normally put on the body when you stay up all night and dance?

Thats interesting...I only find that the next day after rolling my body is very weak and your more susceptible to cold or flu plus my stomach wont stop making noises and I have tons of gas...that shit really does mess with your stomach.

I wouldn't trust that article as far as I could throw it's author. It sounds like prohibitionist garbage, particularly his sweeping first claim that "like other drugs of abuse it suppresses the immune system".

It depends how you take E. Take E in your living room relaxed and get a good nights sleep afterwards and you will never get an infection afterwards. Stay up all night in a crowded room dancing and you may pick up an infection. Just like if you stayed up all night dancing in a crowded room without taking E you might pick up an infection.

^^

I'm so glad that you have come back to ED :)

From Erowid:

Immune System
Some users of MDMA report an apparent decrease in resistance to disease, especially with frequent MDMA use. It is unknown how much of this may be due to the pharmacological "body load" of MDMA, to staying up all night and dancing, to increased physical contact with people with colds, to suppressed appetite and poor nutrition, etc.

The simple fact is that there have been studies done in laboratory settings, not crowded clubs, that show strong evidence that MDMA use affects the immune system. I know I've personally come down with colds after taking Ecstasy in my own home, and I know other people who have too. Whether you want to chalk that up to coincidence is up to you, but it seems pretty obvious to me that MDMA has immunosuppresive qualities. It's not the end of the world. People can still take it safely.

And yeah, a lot of drugs of abuse(and drugs that aren't abused) can lower the immune system.

Yeah but we've got to try and seperate studies with the sole aim of making illegal drugs sound worse than they are and genuine scientific evidence. The big problem about "lab studies" on illegal drugs is that if your lab produces studies that say you can use illegal drugs safely you will quickly lose all funding and be out of a job. If your lab produces "studies" that "prove" illegal drugs are dangerous you will be given funding out your fucking ass.

The big problem I found with the "study" linked was in the very first line where he uses the ever so subtle phrase "drugs of abuse". I want to read science - not some prohibitionist working his ticket to demonise drug use and increase his lab budget.

I know I've personally come down with colds after taking Ecstasy in my own home, and I know other people who have too.

Well that's your anecodotal evidence - my anecdotal evidence is I've never come down with an infection after taking E and neither has anyone I've ever known. We'll just have to agree that E might cause infections in you but not in me.

So you're basing your opinion of that study on one line? Did you even read or the rest of the article?

Even ignoring this one, there have been other studies that have come to the same conclusions. I'm sure they're not all wacky prohibitionists making shit up.

i have severe colds at least 3-4 times a year.

whether i take ecstasy or not.

i took vitamin c on a daily basis, ate healthy whole foods, and exercised. nothing seems to boost my immune system or prevent me from getting sick 3-4times a year.

well that's your anecodotal evidence. some people just get sick...
