I have been hooked on painkillers for quite some time and I'm trying to quit because it's affecting a lot of things. I'm new here and I'd like to meet some people though. If you'd like to follow me while I try to quit you can check out my blog. http://anonymous-livinglife.blogspot.com/
Has anyone here gotten off of pills for good? If you have do you have any advice for me? I always would take oxycodone and demerol and just recently ultram.
Thanks, and I hope to make some new friends here.

Good luck!
Can you give us an idea about how often and what kinds of doses you're talking about?
Remember that no matter what you've done, someone here has done it ten times more, and knows a lot about how to help you!

Personally, I'd recommend going to a doctor. It doesn't even have to be your primary doctor, go to a new one and private pay if you can afford it. I, and also a friend, have been going to local doctors for Methadone treatment for months now and it's helped me more than anything else.

Thanks, I was snorting around 200 mg's of oxycodone about every other day and when I'd run out of that I would switch to about 300 mg's of demerol at the same rate. I've done this for about 4 months now but I ran out and started going through withdrawals and when I was visiting my friend his mom had ultram and I don't know how much I snorted because I don't know how much her prescription was but I thought I was going to die haha. I know 4 months doesn't seem long to get addicted but the people in my family get easily addicted to anything. I've wanted to see a doctor but I don't have any money.

Suboxone bud... If you really want to get off those things... bite the bullet, find a good doctor and be brutally honest with them. It doesnt matter how long you've been doing these things and from what i can see from the description of your usage its apperaent that you have an addiction.

also you say you dont have money but trust me, the money you will spend on the drugs will be more than the cost of suboxone in the long run

Subutex / Suboxone is the way to go, I was doing every narcotic under the sun for well over 5 years... I tried the methadone game, and it only made me all f'd up on methadone.... I was at risk of losing everything and broke down and found a Doctor "and I was 100% honest "this is important". You will still with-drawl off of sub - subtex...... You need to want to do it. Its been close to a year for me clean and my body / mind / and spirt are just starting to get back to normal. The regamine that I was on before sub was
1. snort 90 mg roxy in the morning with a 2mg xanax as a chaser.
2. eat / snort another 60 or so with anothe bar
3. another 90 to go to sleep.
If you go this route "I hope you do" do not do any other benzos or narcotics while on the subutex.. Most of all, YOU HAVE TO WANT TO QUIT.. And dis-associate yourself with all of your hook-ups....

Good luck to you!!!!!!!!

I would be a bit hesitant with the sub thing...I got really bad off on h and oxy's and went on subs to quit. To be quite honest, coming off of the subs was way worse to me than regular withdrawals. I think the best means to come off of oxy's is to just taper your dose and find some benzo's if possible to help you sleep. Good luck!

I'll try the doctor but I don't have a job at the moment. I have a lot of motivation to quit though and I haven't had anything since I started this thread.

And ain't it the truth that while we say we don't have the money for treatment, therapy, whatever, we all manage to find the money for our DOC one way or another?

Haha, you're right. I've been selling my stuff and now all I have is my guitar.

Join the club!

I'm trying to figure out how the hell I got so wrapped up in pills in the first place..... jeez the shit sneaks up on you doesn't it? One day you're just experimenting and looking for a buzz and before you know it it's been years and now the pills OWN you... You've come to the right place. Many if not all here can relate to your situation.

I'm pro suboxone, some people aren't, I think it's the lesser of the two evils if you can't just quit cold turkey, and it's so true that every month you will spend more money on your drug of choice than a suboxone prescription.

Not everyone can handle cold turkey, and many that can just end back up at square one within months. For these people I think sub's pros outweigh it's cons, it allows you to live your life more freely, it's legal (this is big depending on what you're doing), it doesn't really get you high but it allows you get some stability and I think it's easier to taper off of.

I've used subs for short tapers before, I haven't used them for maintenance until recently, someday I may curse suboxone but as of now I think it is an invaluable tool if you really want to move on from opiates but need a little help.

Anyway, good luck, the main thing is wanting to get off the pills, if you want it bad enough I believe you'll find a way to make it happen.

I noticed you mentioned Ultram, you may find an antidepressant like Effexor to be helpful since they're supposedly similar in structure (both SNRI's I think?), it didn't work for me but I know it works well for some of my friends. I like Tramadol I hated Effexor. It may be a placebo effect but I've noticed that 5-HTP supplements help me.
