Hello,

So I have a question that has been buggin me for a while.

What if I shot a drug like heroin or amphetamine intramuscular or subcutan rather than intravenous - would the body filtrate the drug before it got into my bloodstream as opposed to IV when everything in the needle got to my heart and lungs?

Like if you take a drug oral or intranasal that way the body filtrates the stuff you don't want in your veins. Is it the same with IM/Subq ?

Thanks!

Yes, the body will filter it in the sense that the impurities and binders/fillers will not make it into your bloodstream. However, the binders/fillers and impurities will not disappear by any means. They will just sit there under your skin or in your in your muscle. This can almost surely cause some nasty abscesses/infections and bruising. With insufflation or oral consumption, the body only extracts the active ingredient like with an IM injection, although the inactive ingredients will simply run down the throat as drip and go through the digestive system as waste.

So its a toss up, inject into your bloodstream and let it collect in your heart and lungs without as much risk of infection or inject into the muscle and have a high risk of infection. Its like missing a shot, basically unintentionally shooting subcutaneously, which has high risk for infection.

Basically, long term IV injection becomes a problem, while IM causes a problem often. And these infections can turn into a loss of a limb so thats why it is always warned much more seriously against IM of impure solutions over IV.

Using a micron filter, however, will allow a person to IM without the risk of infection, or rather with a low risk.
