Hello Everyone,
I hope I can find some answers and support here. I'm in my fifties, female, and have been prescribed opiates due to six workmans comp injuries which occurred fifteen years ago. My doctor had to close his practice and I have been unable to find another doc.
I never took more than I was prescribed. I was always compliant. But now I have decided to quit taking opiates. I can't take NSAIDs, so Tylenol is my only pain killer.
Five years ago I went cold turkey off opiates. I had 3 really bad days, about ten bad dad and then I got through it. I went 90 days without the meds but my brain chemistry never normalized. I went back on them because I fell, had my hamstring rupture and had no alternative.
I have saved enough hydrocodone to do a twelve to fourteen week taper. I'm in my third week. I've tapered down to twenty mg of hydrocodone a day.
The reason I am here is for advice and support. I think the difference between last time and now is back then I was not getting much exercise. Now I'm riding an exercise bike ninety minutes to two hours a day, at a pretty fast pace. I'm hoping this will keep my brain chemistry more normal.
Do do you have any ideas in ways I can be successful?
