I'm more enlightened than you!

What I find interesting is that when people speak about enlightenment and how it was/is for them, it is always a different story from anyone else.

This is interesting. Is there as a scale of enlightenment? (a luxometer?), and do there exist arbiters of enlightenment. If neither of the above exists then how can we ever know who is more enlightened than whom??

I like the Zen ideal of satori enlightenment in which IT is already always there - it's a matter of shutting off the internal dialogue and becoming aware. To "kill the Buddha" is to kill the levels of attainment suggested by more traditional forms of Buddhism - if an extremist uses Zen as a manner of supporting their extremism, they're definitely missing the point entirely.

Without a doubt, the "luxometer" does exist within many spiritual traditions and I think that is perhaps the reason why I only flirt with with them. I don't understand, for example, going to see a yoga "master" - the idea seems rather odd to me. How is this person a "master", and if he/she proclaims to be so, how can they also suggest that we are equals?

But they've attained a "higher" level of consciousness...

self-adoration and nothing more.

k but for real who is the most enlightened bluelighter of them all?
Who can play indoor mental games and communicate with "you" at will.
Who studies the most books by great philosophers who just needed to listen to King Crimson-Cadence and Cascadance(Spelling sucks rightn now).

ANY need to keep this open?

yeah totally.

for me it felt like someone teleported a wet sock full of cottage cheese into the back of my pants

Well, if you truly are enlightened, surely you'll know it? In which case, you can confidently say, "I'm more enlightened than you!" And it would be the truth!

A wiseman who considers himself a fool is wise indeed
While a fool who considers himself a wiseman is a fool for that very reason.

this!! indeed the older i get the more i realize that more i learn the less i know...and more importantly even those with general philosophies i do not adhere to, i still learn quite a lot from some of the few pearls of wisdom that make up their own macrocosm.

How can you judge truth in this way, though? You can't be certain who you are speaking to is not the Buddha himself! And aren't we all Buddhas, wearing disguises of illusion as a cover?

Yes, this is officially the enlightenment dick sizing thread.

Reality is a hoax, cover it in pudding and eat it.

One of my friends suggested throwing all the ppl who think they're The Messiah into a room and let them sort it out. I'd like to see a show about it . . . like on Oprah.

Since I consider myself a Messiah I developed a test of what a Messiah would believe, here's a few:

1) Jesus certainly did NOT walk on water
2) Eliminate money, laws and international boundaries
3) Respect Earth

would a truly enlightened being even concern themself with that thought?

Who cares if Jesus walked/did not walk on water? It was 2011 years ago (or whenever it was). The Bible teaches some good life lessons, but come on. Who cares if this happened or not? Learn and move on.

Two and three sound perfect from this point of view, however. We as a "society" have come too far into trying to sort everything into categories of "moral" and "immoral". We understand consequences of killing someone else. It doesn't make it "immoral" though. It's just a pain in the ass trying to hide the evidence after the kill.

Money is the basis of all human evolution, whether it is in trade, paper or investment. It has positives and negatives.

International boundaries (naturally occurring ones) keep disease out of areas. Remember when the pilgrims landed in America? They basically wiped out the Natives with their sick, nasty asses (sick and nasty to the Natives, that is). Differentiating between US and Canada? No purpose other than to proclaim being better than another area. But I think we'd still do that anyway. My land is better than yours!

P&S social?

:)

More like this is THE P&D forum, beginning and end, as of right now. This is, unfortunately, where all the action is. Such a plebeian prompt that generates the discussion too....man people really need better things to do. Doesn't anyone want to make this forum better than what could otherwise be found on the internet?
It appears that they don't.

Also...the fact that money is around proves that YOU are the one with the mental problem, not the rest of humanity for using money.
I don't want to debate with fools who have no idea of what they're talking about.

"eliminate money...GEE what a great idea! Unless you think about it for 3 seconds...hmmm"
