im in so much pain how many demerol (pethidine/meperidine) can i take

Like in my other posts i take quite abit of pain killers. Im on demerol 50 and says take 2 every 6 hours and it isnt working how many of the 50s can i take i hqave a high tollerance, and can take up to 8 percocets 10/325 at once..
 
Impossible to know bro, but at 500mg a day you get into the danger of metabolite poisoning. Kills your liver. So the most I have ever taken in a sitting was 500mg. I used to love demerol, but after oxy I won't go back. When I was in the ICU post op in hospital though my resident nurse refused to give me oxy so I had to settle for 50mg IM demerol every 6 hours. Was great for 3 of those 6 hours. Then they talked about changing me over to 50mg oral. I told them if I was going oral I wanted 100mg due to the first pass effect, which apparently no nurse or doctor has ever heard of. Anyhow I am rambling.

Only you can decide your own tolerance levels, but 500mg is the point at which you risk liver damage.
 
thanks for the advice. And the info. Im going to the orthopedic surgeons tomorrow to set up a date for surgery. I have 4 herniated discs in my back. Its been like this for 2 years now. And no surgeon would see me cause i was 451lbs so i had the gastric last january and now im 263lbs. Now im rambling Thanx again for the info
 
My advice: Demerol should be pulled from the market. There are other drugs that are much better and far less dangerous in overdose. I'd speak with my doctor about switching from demerol to something oxy- or hydro- codone based.
 
well my doc has me on percs morphine dulodid and now demerol. I dont take much of the dulodid and he only wants me on the demerol til i see the surgeon tomorrow
 
demoral iv is only available in hospitals from what i remember but if he was giving you vials then maybe im wrong but they prescribe it in pills of 50mg or so. but i know that it can be toxic if taken in high doses. talk with your doctors about possibly switching. dont know if you iv but demoral iv is quite enjoyable but of course can only be done with vials. burns a bit but that quickly passes. maybe ask to be put back on the vials or another medication.

Yea IV but I have been rxed 50mg pills.

It's all good.. It's not all it's cracked up to be in pill form or IV. When I had a low tolerance I took 3 and was fucked up... At the hospital when I end up there they don't give it to me anymore.. Last time I got Oxymorphone which was fabulous.... Dilaudid which was fun too and even a Fentanyl IV. Oxymorphone was my favorite.. I am not an IV user but the shot of Oxymorphone was good fun!
 
Be very careful with demerol man. It can kill you in high doses. I used to be scripted it and with it being such a short acting opiate i would dose pretty mush hourly IV. I had 4 gran mal seziures because of that shit and nearly died. I cant stand the feeling of that shit now compared to other opiates. Just be careful and if you start feeling confused or dizzy or extremely nauseas its probably a good sign to lay off of it for a while. I would never know when the seizures were coming and that shit was scary.
 
^Indeed. Demerol (a.k.a. pethidine / a.k.a. meperidine) is a special opiate in the grand scheme of things. There is a high risk of seizures with very high doses. Be careful. I wouldn't mix it with anything either.
 
Your doctor might want be wanting you to use the demerol because if you have general anesthesia it could cause a good amount of respiratory depression. So the harder opioids+anesthesia are just gonna magnify this effect.
