I wouldn't recommend it -- it can be painful, irritates the tissue, and is probably more dangerous than IV. Also you don't get a whole lot more out of IM than you would just snorting it.
 
Shooting IM provides no real rush, and like others said it really isn't much better than snorting it.
It can hurt, causing a sore spot where you inject, but it's generally not that bad unless you are weak like a little girl or Peter Pan.
I've mistakenly gone through the side of veins and ended up giving myself IM shots. It's more irritating than anything because it comes on slow. But if you don't have a tolerance I'm sure you'll be content.
 
I IMed heroin countless times beofre I ever IVed it. There is a slight rush. It doesnt compare to IV but it's much better than smoking or snortng.
I guess I disagree with most of the people that posted here. It's really nice.

I wouldn't recommend IMing it. Not because its less of a rush, or anything like that, but simply because its dangerous. IMing street drugs in general is just plain stupid. Any bacteria, or particals, that cause no problems in the blood stream can cause SERIOUS problems to the muscle. Particals can cause an infected absess and you could forever damage, or even lose your arm. Same goes for bacteria. IV it, snort it, or smoke it. Leave IM for for pure unbroken vials, pharmacuticals...
 
you dont get a rush from IMing heroin...it feels stronger than snorting but its not worth it. if youre gonna put a needle in your arm or wherever you might as well just shoot it in your vein. the rush is incredible.
 
My take - and I have intentionally done this - it's better then snorting, and more economic then smoking (read: smoking DOES give you a better rush then IM heroin).. but there are really more reasons NOT to do this...
First off, I know that the cool thing for guys to do these days is to beat their girlfriends, but unless you want to look like a cool guys girlfriend, it's best you keep the smack in the vein.. IM injections will leave huge marks at the injection site (USUALLY, I am sure many of you have hit yerself IM and have no problems with bruises).. often these bruises take a long time to heal ..
Secondly, going along with #1 - if it's dirty shit you can wind up with an infection.. this can REALLY BE PAINFULL and can make the user sick in worst cases .. actually in the worst case you can cause horrible damage to the muslce, in turn damaging the nerve, which would eventually lead to having your arm hacked off!
Third.. um.. WHY?!? If you're going to go out and buy rigs, cook and filter yer dope, load the rig clean the injection site, then STILL poke yourself with a needle and hope you don't look like you were attacked with a Louieville Slugger - well, why not just hit the vein? You will only need like HALF the amount you would otherwise have to take, and when done correctly you get a really nice rush, followed by a nice period of warmth ..
I am sure there are more reasons I am missing, but it is just one of things that boggles the mind.. for me, and everyone else I know, an IM heroin injection is considered a failure...

HAH...so true. To answer your question about why people do this: For me, it's how I was introduced to the needle and H. Honestly, in the beginning I was uneducated (like the person who posted above me) and scared I guess. I IMed drugs for almost 2 years before I finally IVed. everyone is talking about infections and losing limbs and shit and maybe I just got lucky. I know I've IMed more than 1000 times and I havent had any complications like that. I have to say that I never IMed tar though and maybe that had something to do with it. Powder H that dissolves almost clear in a rig never caused any problems with me.

Good points Phreex. In the worst case, you can die. There have been a significant number of cases (mostly in California) of people IM/SC injecting black tar heroin, and then developing wound botulism, which is fatal. Botulin spores and bacteria in general just love the tasty environment under your skin. And an additional problem with botulin is that the spores are so tough that heating the shot to sterilize it doesn't kill them. All the more reason to be careful.

I am really saddened by you people... when someone replies to a heroin thread with some off-topic drivel about how heroin will kill you and you should all smoke pot, for god sakes people, ignore that shit until a moderator can delete it! People that make these replies are either trolls or morons - in either case they thrive off your factuall replies to they can respond with more inane shit ... you can NOT change these peoples paths of thinking...

IM'ing black tar just isn't smart, hell, I always gave me self some nasty bruises when I DID hit the vein but extra fluid still got under the skin, why anyone would WANT to IM is beyond me...
