I've only just found out that MDMA and St John's Wort are a very bad combination indeed, and can lead to seratonin syndrome. The reason is that MDMA stimulates release of seratonin and St John's Wort inhibits reuptake of seratonin. Quite a worrying discovery for me, as I've been an casual user of St John's Wort for years now as a means of combatting social anxiety. It leaves me wondering whether the bouts of wrung out sickness I experience after considerable doses of MDMA are a result of this - I don't use St John's Wort every day, but certainly a few times a week. Suffice to say I'll not be taking it any more.
