If you were Shaman of your own tribe.... What drugs would you use for attaining wisdom, and which for healing others?

My answer is Mescaline bearing San Pedro cactus for wisdom, and definitely some really bomb reefer for healing.

Let's see what you guys have to say

Agreed, for me of the major classical psychedelics mescaline is one of the most visionary, therapeutic and spiritually healing while also being relatively hardly confusing. In this regard it has the best ratio.

But there are different kinds of healing and therapy IMO - while mescaline is an all-round winner substances like LSD, mushrooms, DMT and 5-MeO-DMT also have huge merits and I would really need some more details about the tribe and situation the tribe is in. Seems a bit hard to imagine for me, the frame of reference would be pretty different. :)
I wouldn't really use cannabis I think.

I would use psychedelics to seek council with the ancestors and have them heal those under my care, with general herbalism as a supporting addition. To a Shaman psychedelics arent about attaining wisdom as much as they are about giving access to the Spirit World and making allies there.

Unlike Castaneda's fictional writing, the plants are helpers and thespirits you find through them can be allies or foes.

Most trippers dont experience spirits regularly (unless with DMT) because they arent doing work on the other side to get in touch with Spirits. If they did, they would be met by them.

Firstly I'd make the tribe aware that me taking psychedelics and then diagnosing them is a load of inaccurate bollocks that will get an awful lot of them killed. I'm not sure how much longer I'd remain shaman after that revelation.

I feel like the key to modern day Shamanism is to utilize a wide array of psychoactive tools carefully chosen for every unique individual case. For a lot of the population these days, treatments are more about resolving misguided or painful complexes rooted in the past than it is about transcending and gaining infinite wisdom (that comes later after all the lower level healing- premature enlightenment can make unresolved issues even harder to work with). My most commonly used tools would look something like this, starting with the most therapeutic tools and working up towards the more 'Ancient Wisdom and enlightenment' tools: Cannabis, MDMA (and some analogues), mushrooms, mescaline and peyote, LSD, 2Cs, ketamine/MXE/3-meo-pcp, and of course the master level stuff- Ayahuasca and N,N DMT. If someone has a bloated cocky ego and needs a quick fix then some Salvia extract can put them in their place. Otherwise it is more useful in non extract form. I'm sure I'm missing some mentions but That's what comes immediately to mind.

I would use a different sacrament foe each different issue a person has.
Remember that the ritual context is as important and maybe more than the substance itself. A healing process has to be done as a personal journey through illness to sanity.

-If someone is too engaged in over rationality to the point of building a too narrow mental world/prison where to live his/her life i would use the Ayahuasca sacrament to refine their sensitiveness.

-If someone is afraid to live, to die and basically to just let go. If he feels trapped in an unchangeable destiny and has issues reconciliating with their inner sense of will and freedom i would definitely use Ketamine.

-I would give the most sacred Iboga to anyone as a rite of passage to an adult life of communion with the Earth's fundamental forces and responsibility for their own actions; i would especially give it to the ones who bear an old trauma within that has crystallized in obsessive-compulsive habit, addictive behavior and general fear of changing. I would give it to reveal each own's hidden potential.

-I would give Marijuana to the one who has lost his humor.

-I would give Mushrooms to who has lost his fantasy and imagination.

-If someone is scared by his/her own sexuality i would give them holy Wine and a respectful partner.

-When someone has social phobia i will make them dance at least 3 nights to the sacred Beat with all his loved tribe: First on Wine, then on Mdma, finally on Acid. The 4th night comes, only music is needed.

-Most of all i would give tons of Love to all the aforementioned people and the rest of my beloved Tribe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For healing, including emotional healing, definitely Ayahuasca. It is the only thing really necessary. The advantages are huge over other substances: a) requires preparation (diet and/or fasting) - this is very important to deter careless or recreational use, keeping the sacredness of the substance; b) can be unbelievably deep; c) has a short duration that can be extended arbitrarily long; d) has virtually no after effects and a normal life can be had just after a couple of hours after the cermony is over; e) it commands a huge respect - it's very hard to be very stupid over Ayahuasca use, as unfortunately is too common on most other drugs; f) finally, it is perfect for group working, which is a must for any self respecting shaman.

I would use repetitive electronic dance music, especially tribal house, tribal trance & tribal techno to produce trance like states & I would cautiously encourage the use psychedelics to increase the sociability of group music, dancing & drumming sessions.

Basically, I'm interested in modern music technology & in the social use of psychedelic & MDMA-type drugs when they're combined with music to produce group trance experiences.

I would have a Sasha Shulgin type guy make up new chemicals, so I have a repertoire for finding the right chemical for the right person or issue. Would have special ceremonies dedicated to the natural psychedelics (LSA, Psilocin, Iboga, Ayahausca, etc.) but sometimes something else might work better. Creative expression and the sciences would be highly important, let the tribe develop it's own culture.
