I think everyones chemistry must be different is the only thing I can say about this. Opana just wasn't working for me at all anymore and so the doc suggested Nucynta which I had never heard of so I said okay. At first it actually made my eyes bug out and gave me a strange tingling of the tongue. But it did help with the pain more than the Opana. I was started on a high dose of it. Then after a month the letter came telling me I could not take it and to go back to Opana. I went back to Opana and it seemed to work better after having been off of it for a full month. Then a letter came telling me it would no longer be covered either. So right now I'm using my Opana until my next appointment which is March 4. I just hope something on this list will help and I appreciated the responses I got from this thread. Thanks again, Taylor
 
oxycodone hcl!! the difference between percocet and oxycodone hcl is that oxycodone hcl dosent have any tylenol (acetaminophen) its straight up oxycodone. yummy
 
If nucynta was beneficial, maybe it wasn't the opioid effect but the NRI effect that was beneficial. Have you tried SNRI's like cymbalta/effexor or TCA's like amitriptyline/nortriptyline combined with your opioids?

How about anticonvulsants? I have CRPS as well and found opioids effective, but TCA's and anticonvulsants COMBINED with opioids far more effective.

Maybe you can look on the bright side and not be so mad, having three options for pain relief is better than having none , which is the case for a lot of patients.

i have a chronic pain issue as well.. and am on medicare... i did not choose to have diabetes OR it's complications... if I could work... I would... AND anyone who thinks it's just lovely to sit around the house in pain... i would love to trade your job for my disability...

Medicare fancies themselves as physicians... and the override alot of decisions that a licensed physicians make... ie changing your prescribed medication for something else (most likely cheaper)

next time... please think about what you say before you say it...

edit: btw... i would chose the oxycodone as well... hyrdromorphone has worked-but only for a short while... oxycodone is quicker acting IMO and longer lasting...

as someone else has suggested, methadone is an excellent choice in this case.
it is extremely cheap, probably one of the cheapest narcotics available, so i don't know why your medicare wouldnt cover it.

methadone has excellent oral B/A, and is highly effective for chronic pain. studies have shown it to be more effective than hydromorphone, oxycodone, and at least as effective as morphine.

another advantage is that methadone lasts long, which means less need to redose. also, it's generally more well tolerated than morphine is and is also less addictive.

another option might be levorphanol, but i'm not sure if that one comes cheap. it's an extremely old narcotic, so it cannot be that expensive (at least as cheap as oxycodone or hydromorphone).

but, if i had to choose, my personal choice would be morphine.

yeah I don't know if you have already choosen, but I would go with the oxycodone IR, the other two just aren't as good pain relievers for different reasons
 
oxycodone is not generic for percocet. percocet has tylenol in it........that is about the ONLY diff. perc is oxy & tylenol ( acetametaphine ). so if you want added
extra, useless, liver damaging drugs , you HAVE been warned. so . . . percocet = oxy AND tylenol and yes, it is a name-brand. oxycodone is generic drug... with nothing more than oxy in it and is a short acting drug.....as opposed to OXYCONTIN which is the long acting , NAME BRAND , of oxycodone.....to be taken only twice a day. the end
