I'm in fear that I may get kicked out of pain management in the near future. Two weeks ago I got a pretty direct warning from my doc that if I came up negative for opiates again, he HAS to quit scripting for me (I was clean 2 weeks ago cos I ran out of my script 5 days early). I have a DT on Monday morning and I have 2 blues remaining and I sincerely hope that is enough to trigger the necessary positive come Monday morning.

If I do get booted out of pain management, I will probably need some assistance coming off of opiates. Given my situation, if I were to go to a methadone clinic for help, what would be the pros and cons of methadone versus suboxone? Would appreciate the feedback.

*** I know that we aren't allowed to ask drug testing questions, but if there is someone fairly knowledgeable in pain management and their drug testing practices, I would GREATLY appreciate a private message with some feedback. Thanks!

There are a lot of threads on the differences between methadone and Suboxone. Would you be using them long-term, or with the goal of tapering down and getting off opioid completely?

Either way I'd recommend you try Suboxone before methadone. And I STRONGLY recommend you do not stay on either long-term, especially methadone.

What country do you live in? In the US you would have to go to the methadone clinic every day and they are very strict.

I'd like to think that the goal would be to taper eventually, however; I am scripted oxy because of legit back pain. With that said, would one be a better choice over the other? I hear they are both addictive and hard to come off of.

A far as going to a methadone clinic daily, I work full time. What type of hours does a methadone clinic have? Obviously, I don't want it to interfere with my 8am-5pm
job.

It depends on a lot of variables. Do you want to use these drugs for pain management, or do you just want them to help you detox (whether it be a standard 5 day +/- detox or a longer 3-6 month taper) ?

What dosage of medication do you currently take?

Honestly, I'd like to just continue going to my PM doctor monthly, but it's getting harder and harder to make my scripts last without running out. And I do try. The fact that I have even 2 oxys left with only 36 hours to my next appoinment is pretty damn good for me. I should have about 8-10 left, but it's still alot better than running out a week early every month. I just hope that the 2 I have remaining is enough to trigger an opiate positive come Monday morning.

To answer your other questions, I'd like to use the methadone/subs for both pain management and detox (if that makes sense).

I'm currently scripted 120 Oxy IRs ...

yeah dude, that should definetly be enough to test positive. IMO, say i had a test at 9am, i would eat the 30 mgs at like 11 or 12 the night before. that should be enough for it to stay in your piss. you should definetly test positive.

Please stop talking about drug testing, you guys were already warned not to in the thread that got closed.

Methadone clinics have different hours, it depends on the options where you live. But no, I wouldn't say having to go to a methadone clinic every day is remotely convenient when you work 8-5. Methadone generally seems harder for people to get off than Suboxone. How hard either of those drugs are to get off really depends on your dose and how long you take them. The goal of tapering "eventually" usually turns into long-term maintenance IME. As for pain, either can be effective in the right dose and frequency in the short-term but people tend to build a tolerance to pain relief in the long-term. Personally I did not find methadone very effective for pain, although I suppose I could have just kept raising my dose endlessly (if the Dr allowed). But, if you do that you just get a huge tolerance to opioids and have even more trouble getting off it. When people are prescribed methadone for pain they usually take it multiple times per day, whereas going to a methadone clinic they are most likely only going to give it to you once a day. With Suboxone you have more control over how often you take it.

How much oxy do you normally take per day?
