Women fighting for their lives after taking “contaminated” cannabis as Gardai issue warning

TWO women are fighting for their lives after taking “contaminated” cannabis.

The women, both in their 20s – one of whom is understood to be a mother – are in intensive care in hospital today. Gardai have expressed concern that more drug users could be at risk from the same toxic batch of drugs. The women, who do not know each other, presented separately to the same hospital in Drogheda. One 25-year-old is said to have “catastrophic” injuries and is suffering from multiple organ failure. Last night gardai confirmed that two women from Louth are in a life-threatening condition after taking a drug. Both are in the intensive care unit of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. The women are understood to have first taken ill on Monday night of this week.

One of the women has not regained consciousness since being brought into hospital and is on life support. The second woman became seriously ill in the early hours of yesterday morning and “the symptoms are far too serious to have been caused by cannabis on its own,” said one source.

Gardai are desperately investigating the source of the cannabis – which may have been mixed with a synthetic drug – to establish if there is a bad batch of drugs currently on the streets of the North East. Follow-up searches of two houses in Drogheda and mid-Louth resulted in some cannabis being seized which is being tested to identify what it contains. However it is believed that it can be difficult to detect synthetic drugs in these tests.

Last night Superintendent Gerry Smith, at Drogheda Garda Station, said: “We are concerned that other people who use cannabis may suffer the same effects.”

Please don't say we are gonna start seeing sprayed or wet buds around the isles again. I was waiting till they started spraying AM-2201 on shitty buds, now thats illegal and harder to get they are probs using some god awful RC cannabanoid that you can't even pronounce.

When I visited Ireland someone asked me if I knew what Gardai meant, I said no and he was like "its the police". I realized the "discreet" area i picked to smoke a joint was in front of police station.
Ireland was only place i ever threw out cannabis that soap stuff

How do we eliminate the use of this slang term?

It's ironic that Dominos may have already done a more effective anti-synthetic campaign than we would have imagined.

Avoid the Noids, kids. Stick to home grown herb.

(Isn't this kind of stuff common in the UK? Dogshit soapbar hash and the like?)

Cant u guys inthe uk get some seeds and grow your own? The seed cap of the world, amsterdam, isnt that far. Fuck smoking that nasty shit, soap bar and weed with fiber glass and tiny plastic beads. Wtf is that?

Good news it wasn't the cannabis:

Contaminated cannabis ruled out as cause of two women's illness after HSE alert issued by HSE

Gardaí in Drogheda have confirmed that cannabis that was tested after two women were left seriously ill, was not contaminated.

The Garda Superintendent Gerry Smith in Drogheda said: "We can confirm that results of tests carried out on cannabis found it was not contaminated."

The women remain in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Drogheda and their condition is improving.

They had both admitted to the Intensive Care Unit after being brought to the hospital suffering what appeared to be fits and seizures.

Initially it appeared the women became ill after smoking cannabis.

After the women were hospitalised the HSE Addiction Services in the North East issued an alert warning.

The alert warning said a contaminated batch of cannabis (hash) that seemed to be circulating in the Louth, Meath and Cavan region.

Superintendent Smith said that when they are well enough the women will be interviewed and a garda investigation is continuing into the source of the cannabis.

Cannabis was found at two houses that were searched in Louth after they were admitted to hospital.

However, results of tests on the cannabis found in these searches confirmed it was not contaminated.

The women are not believed to have known each other, but it was thought they had each taken cannabis supplied by the same personin the Drogheda area.

Sources said that the likelihood now is that their condition was caused by something taken with the cannabis.
