Idientifying Ketamine (and other substances)

i will be convinced by an untampered vial but in regards to powder. how can one judge that its the real deal. taste/smell/possible chemistry based techniques (no access to spectroscopy or other equipment but reasonable chemistry knowledge)

also are their anyways to estimate purity of heroin and other substances besides pill test kits obviously. i am really looking for chemistry based as oppose to just physical
 
Also if its the Ketamine you're talking about, you can't smoke it.

With out a lab it's going to be very hard for you.

Know your source.
 
this may sound stupid, but get a pill testing kit that tests for k, and just use a little bit of your powder. They're not all that expensive. I've found that if it's good k, as well as changing to the appropriate colour it tends to fizz and smoke to!

+1 for this. Although they're made to test pills there is no reason that it couldn't test other drugs as long as the regent you use has a well defined reaction with your DOC.
 
ahh i was not aware of this. i have had no interest in pills and therefore pill testing kits. i know they are readily available online but this is not an option. do "drug paraphernalia" stores sells them in W.A?
 
I've got no idea about WA, but I bought a pill testing kit at a well known head shop chain in Adelaide. It doesn't test for ketamine, but I'm almost certain there are kits that do.

One thing I've noticed is that ketamine tends to be very consistant in quality and purity. Even buying from different sources, I've never seen K that didn't consistant of small, almost perfectly shaped, odorless and transluscent crystals. I'd be very wary of any K that looked dirty or impure, or was very powdery/damp, or had an odor.
 
i know in melbourne you can buy them in club x stores, don't know if you have them in WA but most sex shops will have them.

Yep, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't most retail stores sell the E2 Mandelin + Marquis Kit and The Marquis alone?

This would suffice for most people, but if you want to be able to test everything and anything you'll want to get the EZ-Test Complete.

I'm not too sure myself, but some other users have suggested EZ-Test have become unreliable with their postage recently. I can't speak from personal experience though, so I can't really say.

Also; While we are on the subect of testing; Does anyone know how cocaine tests up with Marquis reagent?

There are a few references on the net of Marquis being able to test for cocaine, but I can't seem to find any colours. I'll have a deeper look through Erowid and some other sites and see if I can find it.
 
ket powder definantly smokes... unless that wasn't a k hole i just left after smoking a pipe off ketamine and was just a random event that happens efter every time i do it...
 
Racemic ketamine, which is what 95% of street gear is will have a clear, translucent 'salt' like appearance. Pure racemic will have no odour, and should be quite dry ie: it shouldn't clump.

White powder is white powder, but with the idiotic amounts of K i've put up my nose, i'd feel confident in being able to identify pure K from 10 piles of unknown powder. K should never look very powdery, it should always come in one crystalline form or the other, pure K this is.

s-isomer on the other hand has a very fine, shard like appearance. Almost like ice but very very fine, the longest crystals being 2-3mm max. Very shiny, also very dry and does not clump.

Both have a foul, bitter chemical drip when insuffulated. I also find that after a big line it feels as though i've had a strong mint, the nostril i used to snort feels chilled and clear.

Apart from that, know your source before you go consuming some random substance, best way to know what you've got.

With freshly prepared Marquis (within a few weeks old) pure cocaine will usually give a very faint pink colour.
