Ibogaine? Ganesha?

Does anybody have a friend who has seen or taken Ibogaine in the united states? I always wonder why/how it became illigal, I would figure it would still be legal like the ayahuasca plants and other obscure plants with low to no recreational potential.

The other obscure drug I've been wondering about is called Ganesha or G; 2,5-DIMETHOXY-3,4-DIMETHYLAMPHETAMINE in Pihkal

Wow, I've been interested in those substances as well. Particularly the mind-rewiring anti-addictive properties of ibogaine, I think many people with addiction problems could benefit very much from it if treatments were available for everyone.

And Ganesha is intriguing as well. It's the only phen that is equally potent as a 2- or 3-carbon version.
 
I've had Ganesha offered to me, sadly I turned it down.. It sounds pretty nice, wouldnt mind if I was presented another crack at it :)
 
I just browsed the pihkal a bit, and found this at the entry of 2CG3:

... With this logic, the dimethylene bridge would be 2C-G-2 (and the corresponding amphetamine would be G-2, of course). But these compounds call upon a common intermediate which is a benzocyclobutene, OK in principle but not yet OK in practice. The right benzyne reaction will be there someday, and the dimethylene analogues will be made and assayed. But, in the meantime, at least the names have been assigned.

Well, by now the benzocyclobutene has been made possible (as in TCB-2) so I wonder if anyone has synthed 2C-G2 yet? If not, why not? Wonder what it'd be like...
 
I figured that Iboga is illegal cuz anything that cures with a one time dose is frowned upon in US. There is lots of money for our country in drugs and addiction related things like methadone and sub.

These things piss me off...
 
I would guess that GANESHA is even rarer than ibogaine in the US, and definitely in the EU, where ibogaine is only controlled in Belgium, Switzerland, and France.
 
I've seen ganesha being offered only once. The source never replied to me... :(

It does seem really interesting though.
 
I actually have some iboga root bark powder but I haven't tried it yet. I plan on it very soon. Though I heard some of the trip might even be spent unconscious -- so I'm still making up my mind if I should option a sitter for it or not. I have very little idea of what to expect.

I haven't heard of Ganesha.
 
I've had Ganesha and my impression was that it wasn't a terribly memorable substance. Anyways I could do a write up on the trip if you guys want me too? Should I?

I would love some Ibogaine though. That stuff is supposed to be amazing.

And re: iboga(ine), I suppose that it is scheduled for ideological reasons, similar to what we have with the other scheduled psychedelics. It has, however, factored into a few deaths (http://www.myeboga.com/fatalities.html) but I doubt this is the reason that it is not approved for use in this country.
 
If you ask tobala, he'll probably tell you about his ibogaine experience. Actually, he wrote a trip report about it in the Trop Reports forum, if you search for threads started by him. It doesn't explain why it's illegal though. :D
 
I think its illegal because the FDA and the DEA don't want people taking it to get well, while there are pharm alternatives that exist to treat such issues like addiction, somewhat.

Its all about money, if someone take Ibogaine, and is relieved of an addiction.. it takes away from doc and money the pharmy companies collect from you filling you Suboxone or Zyban.
 
There are a half-dozen contributing factors, all revolving around the axes of greed, ignorance and ethnocentrism. You know, the usual suspects...
 
Ibogaine was outlawed in the USA in 1967 as part of the government panic/backlash against psychedelics and stimulants that also swept up LSD, DMT, DET, mescaline and psilocybin/psilocyn. This was performd by the FDA (the DEA did not yet exist). It is weird that ibogaine got rounded up in this since it was not a "street drug" and was not well known, while other obscure psychedelics of the era such as DPT and AMT escaped the round up. I think it may have been because some of Leary's group at Millbrook experimented with it, Nick Sand in particular. Ibogaine's ability to interrupt opiate addiction was not well documented or appreciated at the time.
 
^ I think that's a good synopsis, wombat. It's strange how absolutely uncommon drugs like ibogaine, bufotenine, DET, and DOET (amongst a few others) were part of the roundup. Somewhat of a "guilt by association."
 
Hmm... Ibogaine is legal(ish) in the UK still I believe. Has interested me for many years. May well have to investigate... Ganesha is almost undoubtedly less legal here. Sounds damnably intriguing from a quick read of the wiki page though.
