Ibiza 2015

...Ah Carl cox I remember BITD 89 or 90 him turning up to an all nighter in a field aboit 8am and only a 100 or so still dancing - i stood next to him and watched him mix, at the time he was the only person who had three decks and he was surperb didn't give a fuck that only a handful were there - big bugger as well

I'm off in August. Never been before as always been put off by the "type of person" who usually goes. However I have had my eyes opened at recent events as well as people I have spoken to. In sure keeping with the right group and I am going to have a wicked time listening to some of the music I love!

For me though nothing can blow a room away like real trance played loud. Has an extra dimension that other types of dance music don't. IMO.
So fucking true, I'm all pumped up now!! Bring on the trance!

Going last week of September...went last year in early July...Differences?

I went in mid-June a few years ago and it was much nicer than July/August peak time. Temperature about 4-5C cooler, so just a perfect 25C during the day. And most nights cover charges were slightly cheaper, and the clubs were about 10-20% less packed - so pretty much ideal.

I've heard mid-September is pretty much the same as mid-June in terms of temperature/number of people, so you should still be OK in late September I'd say.

Also on the EDM/Trance/non-techno nights front I'm hearing rumours of Calvin Harris being added to the Ushuaia lineup this year. Hes not my ideal cup of tea but if hes got some decent support acts that could be a fun night.

Actually when I went in early July it was busy but not packed..

You will have the time of your life. I can guarantee it. :)

A genre of music doesn't define who I am, but funnily enough techno elitists seem to think so. Musical preference is a subjective thing, so it is kind of pointless arguing over it, but I really have grown tired of constantly listening to techno elitist criticise every genre of electronic music out there. Believe it or not, but a lot of people think techno and tech-house sound repetitive, mechanical, lifeless and devoid of any emotion. It never goes anywhere, no euphoria. I feel it's better suited to a Berlin basement or even an elevator somewhere. Hawtin and Sven Vath come from industrial cities as well, and I think their music reflects this, so I don't see how their sound can be synonymous with the Ibiza sound. I would quicker associate something like Beachball by Nalin & Kate with the Ibiza sound than anything ever produced by Sven Vath, Hawtin etc.

I also don't see anything underground about techno to be honest. Enter and Cocoon have had more things in common with the mainstream clubs I've been to than what something like Cream has. Now Cream has more of an underground feel for me, banging tracks, friendly faces, hugs all round, jaws swinging and hands reaching for the lasers. Anyone new to the scene that wanted to blend in and just stand there lifeless would find Enter much more comfortable. I also can't understand the need for people being in the dj booth, seems like an elitist thing to do. Even on MDMA I still could not enjoy the crowd at ENTER or Cocoon.

Im a massive techno fan and although ive never done cocoon i did mauros meganite last time i was over (manumission had been kicked out at this point making it privilege's biggest night of the week) and it was a blast.

Id agree with everything you said about creamibiza but i havnt been since their 2004 closing party

Mauro is a gun though, love his music. And is there anyone on this planet happier than someone with 2ees? Haha

I really do wish I wasn't a little boy back when you started raving mate, seems like the golden age. I still love it now and don't know any better, but the music back then must've been heavenly, along with the pills. Jealous.

Yesssss!!! Just booked 17th to 24th October... going to be a stunner!!!!
£879 for flights and apartment - just hope I can afford the club for a week on top of that!!

Love it! Your the first person thats ever worked out my name! Ive swritten my name as 'Stee' since i was a teenager. Its phonetically correct, as a pose to the usual 'Ste', which phonetically should sound like 'Steh'. When people first enquired about thee extra E in my name, i had a eureka moment - 'why stee? coz 2 ees are allways better than one. You get a prize for being the first person in 20 years to work out the 'joke'

I didnt start going out untill 95 so i just missed out on the original dance explosion. After spending the mid part of the 90's following the rave (hardcore/d+b scene) i got swept up in the dance scenes 2nd 'golden age' - the superclub explosion, the mitsubishi revolution, and the dominance of techno and trance that, along with garage (yes!) defined the sound of the millennium. After first seeing mauro doing a 6 hour set at gatecrasher in sheffield, he quickly became my top dj for the next 5 years. Ive seen him 14 or 15 times (the only dj ive seen more is Grooverider) - from the industrial dancefloors of digbeth, to dublin and of course, ibiza. Alongside my attendances at the superclubs, i also became addicted to birminghams atomic jam, with adam beyer and dave clarke keeping me just as wet - top marks tho go to the jams resident, and possibly the best dj ive ever heard, Ade Fenton

Sorry to witter but i never get to talk dance music any more

Hahaha I thought your name was super obvious to be honest. Maybe I'm just a bigger pill head than I thought. As for my reward I'll accept either old school Mitsubishis or White Doves. Mail them to my mouth please. :D

No need to apologise mate, I love the old school scene talk. Seems like a different world. I take it Mauro ended up at trance with that 6 hour set?

That is why I look for the reviews here, always trying to turn the clock back!

Similar story to me.........what are are you btw? Im now 38. Still occasionally hit a club with a swedger in hand. Just struggle with all nighters now!

36 mate... havnt been out tho in nearly 2 years due to, er , antisocial drug habits.

Mauros 6 hour effort was a sonic luxury of peaks and troughs, his pre-millenium style of hard trance (lizard etc) was perfectly peppered around sumblime, edgy, tension building techno.

2 years later he was just playing the techno, after the 6 hour at the republic my favourite sets of his were the first godskitchen global gathering (he played the last set main tent) and a 2 hour job 3 months later in birminghams NEC arena for gatecrasher:nxt

Lizard is a fucking tune!! The techno you speak of I could definitely enjoy, especially if it's building up to full blown euphoria. If techno nights still built up to trance I'd be all over them, would love such a journey.
