Opioids I was under the impression that opioids are supposed to be sedatives.

I find certain doses of particular opiods/opiates can cause different effects. For me, oxycodone will give me soo much energy I will do a whole week of house work in one fucking hour. On the other hand something like hydromorphone will have me nodding and quite sedated . Does anybody have an explanation of why certain opiates/opiods have different affects on a person . Does it have to do with certain receptors being activated, or does it more depend on the the person?

Thanks

I'm prescribed oxycodone (40mg) for my rheumatoid arthritis and I run on them...I prepare for marathons while on this medication...but I've also been sleepy after taking MS Contin (each time actually)...maybe it depends on the medication?

Depends on the ratio of mu, kappa, and delta opioid receptor agonism I guess.
