I was addicted to heroin for 7 years and

i think the rush is pretty great as long as u dont over do it ... ive also been chipping for some time and if u dont do it for a while the rush is all that better...and i dont find it difficult to stop..but its true ive never IVed and i dont intend to...

NIqu if you let the stupid people in other forums convince you that E/speed isn't bad for your its your own fucking stupidity to blame. What kind of arguments did they give to convince you its okay?? "E can't be bad for you it feels so good etc.. etc.." While there may be questions about exactly how bad for you it is go out and read the research. There is plenty of evidence both E and speed are nuerotoxic.
Heroin, and in fact all the opiates except maybe some of the bizarre syntehtics with unfortunate metabolites, aren't nuerotoxic. Opiates have been used for 100s of years in medical practice with an incredible safety record. Used correctly in medicine there are few chronic (and by this I mean effects present after the patient has been taken off the opiate and overcome and sort of withdrawal) side effects.
Heroin, just like the morphine they give you in the hospital is not dirty, it is simply a chemical. It can be used responsibly. The incidence of addiction caused by hospital/medical use of opiates is amazingly small.
Qual, it was the wide spread use of it that had me thinking it was relatively safe...in addition to the psychological attraction to it, and the fact that I didn't notice any negative effects from it until I had a long break recently...with stimulants thats when you feel it, during a break.
Your right though, it was ulimately all my fault for abusing it.
But just as much as there's stupidity\gullability associated with drg use, there's pro-drug use propaganda...like trying to tell people you can use heroin without getting addicted, I mean your telling this to drug users, PROVEN addictive personalities. When really I think the best option is to tell people not to even go there, not even to imagine how it feels. I've already made that pact with myself, I know what a common outcome is...that's all I need to know, I don't want that outcome, so I say to myself I CAN'T allow myself to even toy with the means to reach that outcome...out of sight out of mind, I just saved my life, at least from one possible deadly outcome.
Nothing in this world has no recourse.
How well do I know that after getting in to drugs.
e_rep, your mint man, you would have been some guy before heroin use because it shows through strongly even now; your gonna be one of the <15% Drean talked about ;)
no insults, but if I thought an insult would save your life, or anyone elses, it'd be worth it.
Ford, but your not a responsible person, if you were you'd have applied what I put up in bold^^^, before taking that first hit, wouldn't ya?
Same as me when I started ABUSING ecstacy and other drugs. But damn, not with a known common life ender.
fuck...just goodluck to all of you, and apologies if I approached this shit the wrong way. Because I AM flexible as far as new ideas go, if you tell me a better and more efficient way of achieving an outcome ill accept it and use it, no matter the context.

What an ugly thread this is. It belongs in the Dark Side and not here. Heroin (and other strong opiates) is my favorite type of drug. The last time I did opiates was over a month ago. I must be in denial though. I mean I can clearly see that I'm pawning everything for more... Oh wait, I'm still typing on this computer, watching TV. Oh look all my expensive electronics are still here.. Infact I've never been to a pawn shop.
most drugs makes reality more fun....
heroine is a tool used to escape from reality... heroine is for miserable people, normal people dont use heroine... if someone starts doing heroine its like knowing that youre starting an journey towards an early death..... even if you dont die you will probably have very big difficulties having a normal life....
Why are you talking shit about heroines? Thats pretty sexist, female heros are just as good as the male ones! But for the sake of argument we'll assume you ment "heroin". The DEA would say that "normal" people don't smoke pot either, but I'm willing to bet you do. I use heroin occasionally, haven't had any difficulties yet! A short while ago they found a doctor at a hopsital that had been taking morphine daily for 40 years. He suffered no phisical damaged as a result to the drug, and still was able to be a very competent doctor. I can't remember where I read the article but if someone knows what I'm talking about post a link. Obviously your going to hear mostly horror stories about heroin, because they are the only ones reported. I'm sure all of you guys consider pot to be a very clean and hey, its natural so its gotta be good right? Oh look, they have some kids on this talkshow that steal to buy pot and alcohol. From this small precentage of people that could not help from getting addicted to pot, I can only determine that pot is a highly addictive drug and will ruin your life. No, the bottom line is YOU ruin your life. Not the drug. I have done more drugs than some of you could probably imagine. I spent 6 months addicted to methamphetamine. I learned my lesson, I now respect my chemicals.
but just a warning heroin a is ":cool" but thats about all it is... also, it has so many impurities
Every illicit drug has impurities. I thought we were preaching about heroin here. Since your using so little its probably a lot safer in this department than any other illegal drug.
you ruin your skin
Ruin your skin? My skin looks fine, of course I like going to the beach, and golfing in the summer. I like skiing in the winter... I guess if you sit inside all day everyday shooting dope your skin might get a little pasty. Just like those potheads that do it. If your talking about the little red dots that last 12 hours when you IV? Whats 12 hours, it goes away, doesn't leave any kind of mark whatsoever. Of course this is assumed that your doing it RIGHT. If your not IVing right well thats another matter. But thats not an excuse. If I drive a car into a brickwall and die because I didn't know how to operate it its hardly the cars fault. That statement holds very true to heroin itself.
if i needed iv for blood transfusion due to auto acciodent, which vein would they hit???? i have none left..
As everyone here knows...If you properly use needles and rotate viens, your viens will be fine. I IV drugs as my chosen method of consumption. I 100% GUARENTIE that if you look at my arms, you will not beable to tell I IV. As well as none of my viens are any different than they were before I IVed.
Bottom line:
Heroin is phisically and psycologically addicting (just like any drug can be psycologically addicting). Only YOU can control that addiction. Heroin isn't evil, come on! Its just like every other drug. I have a friend that can't go more than 5 days without rolling off 5-6 pills of Ecstasy. Thats addiction. I don't blame the drug, I blame him. I was addicted to methamphetamine for 6 months. Do I blame meth? NO. It was my own God damn fault! I've learned my lessons. I'd like to think I'm a very knowledged drug user now.
Anyway this has been debated for years here. This probably should go in the Dark Side. As Other Drugs is not a forum for helping people with their addictions. The pro-drug message of this forum is clear.

>But just as much as there's stupidity\gullability associated with drg use, there's pro-drug use propaganda.
Certainly...I think I am going to kill the next stupid ass pot head who tries to tell me pot is the most perfect substance on the planent and never has bad consequences and should be used to treat essentially all ailments.
>like trying to tell people you can use heroin without getting addicted, I mean your telling this to drug users, PROVEN addictive personalities.
This is not pro-drug propaganda (assuming "you" isn't used too literly...I have told no specific indivdual they personally could use safely) because it is true. No more so than it is pro cliff diving propaganda to point out that some ppl have survied falls from thousands of feet. Both are simply facts which in fact are true! If these facts cause some individuals to mistakenly think they personally can avoid heroin addiction that is unfortunate but it in no way makes the statement false.
Moreover, to the extent the individuals on this board are PROVEN addictive personalities they are probably well aware of the risks of addiction (after all absent of administering fellow posters complicated psychological tests the only proof of the addictivness of their personality is an actual addiction). Perhaps you are suggesting that there are unexperience indivuals out there to whom this statement will encourage use...and they will probably get addicted.
Perhaps, but everyone here has probably been subject to tons of information about the addictivness of heroin and how it can negatively affect you. The fact that many of the people here still do heroin is a good indication that the tactic of telling everyone how bad the drug is doesn't work to discourage use. In fact it is quite possible the forbidenness of drugs is one of the major factors encouraging their use.
In fact providing unbiased (this means not hiding facts which may seem positive about drug use) factual information about drug use probably dose more to discourage stupiud inappropriate use than all your ranting. You won't convince anyone, everyone has heard all the shit about H being evil etc.. etc.. a bunch of time before and you come off as severly biased in the issue (by refusing to admit true facts which do not support your claim).
Conversely if one of the many experienced users on this board, who obviously aren't refleively anti-hard drug or whatever, say certain things are dangerous or stupid (not filtering oxy) or that there is a real risk in this activity people are likely to believe them...and hence act at least a littler more intelligently.
Finally you claim that Ford is irresponsible because he didn't follow your advice is only true if we believe your outrageous claim (b/c you probably don't know him so have no way to know) that he is not an addict etc.. You are only claiming that Ford is irresponsible by assuming the absolute imposibility of responsible heroin use. Since you are full of shit on that point you have no reason to believe he isn't one of those individuals

Acutally, this thread belongs in another thread that I can't find.
I have seen pro-drug discussion in the forum. I've seen people ask about sniff heroin and people responding that IV is the way to go. I DO NOT AGREE with this. First of all, I'm assuming that no one here would request that someone bang smack if they thought the person couldn't handle it. There is no was to make that determination over the internet. Some advise here could kill. But that's another thread.

Maybe its just me but when some says
"Bang it"
I don't think they are really trying to offer an objective opinon about whether shooting heroin is a better life decscion for that individual than snorting.

>like trying to tell people you can use heroin without getting addicted, I mean your telling this to drug users, PROVEN addictive personalities.
Safely assumable, anything greater than 50% and it's valid. Far less if you follow the save a single fish and you've done your job idea...
In fact, everyone has a potentially addictive personality, moreso users of the forums here.
Though your right some do definetly have more willpower. Hell if I could garantee I wouldn't get addicted or if I felt safe leaving it in the hands of my willpower I'd do it, but I can't garantee that, and we can't garantee any of these guys would.

Well thanks for getting technical with me, but all I tell myself is simply that newspapers don't address individuals, so how is it that biased information needs to be addressed to individuals using any other medium to be regarded as propaganda? So, I'm afraid so...gotta discard that one.
TIP: Don't squander time away on being pedantic just for the purpose of proving someone wrong, when you know the general rule is that if you try heroin your going in the wrong direction, quite possibly to addiction. However many trivial positives it has associated with it, they're outweighed by the negatives, such as death. Trust me dude a LOT of these people we could safely assume couldn't handle occasional use.

In general, people don't really make alterations to theyr'e habits until something goes wrong... As dependence grows this trait ALL humans have would become more pronounced; discarded.

Actually heroin use has dropped dramatically since it's had this evil stigma attached to it, they do listen; discarded.

Agreed, I sound like an activist.
It's not that I dismiss them because they don't support my anti-heroin stance, but as I said ...they're TRIVIAL relative to life.
But your right I should acknowledge things like that no matter how big or small, it'd make me appear less biased. I guess I get lazy sometimes(all the time)and figure it'll be a waste of time for the efficient ones, since they'll come to the same conclusions as me when I put the pro's and con's of both sides in front of they're eyes.
Conversely if one of the many experienced users on this board, who obviously aren't refleively anti-hard drug or whatever, say certain things are dangerous or stupid (not filtering oxy) or that there is a real risk in this activity people are likely to believe them...and hence act at least a littler more intelligently.
Your probably right, actually that's probably why the usage stats have dropped partly, due to positive peer support, as opposed to going totally anti(which I'm definetly not)...so yeah I can see your point.
Finally you claim that Ford is irresponsible because he didn't follow your advice is only true if we believe your outrageous claim (b/c you probably don't know him so have no way to know) that he is not an addict etc.. Basically what I'm saying is that for any of those guys who think it's moderately possible that they could get addicted should just stay clear and not even toy with the thought of heroin.
Can we agree on that much?
When I was reading this post I thought I WAS in The Dark Side...

Basically what I'm saying is that for any of those guys who think it's moderately possible that they could get addicted should just stay clear and not even toy with the thought of heroin.

Hell yeah. But even if *we* decide to use it, we should be able to come here and discuss it without a wrath of anti-heroin posts . Agreed?

Ok I was being pedantic not simply to prove you wrong but make the important distinction that I am telling no one that they personally can handle heroin and not get addicted. I am merely reporting an objective fact that a certain non-insignificant portion of the population indeed can. If I had said "NiQu you can shoot heroin and you will be okay" it would have been a false statement. While if I say there is SOMEONE..or even MANY people who can it is true. I also never said because SOME people can do it safely you should shoot heroin. This would be pro-drug propaganda rather than a factual report about drug effects.
It's not that I dismiss them because they don't support my anti-heroin stance, but as I said ...they're TRIVIAL relative to life.
This started with your claim that heroin takes over your mind makes it impossible etc.. etc.. So it seemed that not only did you dismiss them you actively denied them...and seemed to actively deny that it was possible Ford had a stable chipping habit.
I agree that heroin use is something that should not be undertaken lightly. Of course other things than just addiction risk need to be taken into account. There are probably individuals out there whose like would be improved by heroin addiction (not out of any good side to heroin addiction but their life could suck that bad) esp. if they never had to withdraw (i.e. they did b4 this happens). But in general yah.

This post is directed to the person who started this thread:
I am completely and utterly disgusted with people blaming drugs for thier problems. It makes me sick.
You say that it was heroin that took away seven years of your life, but who made the desicion to do it? Who decided not to educate themselves on it? Who didn't know when to stop? Was it heroin? I don't think so.
Oh but isn't it supposed to be a "dirty" drug!? If you do not know how to use something properly and it begins to effect you because of desicions you make, that makes it "dirty?"
I am sorry, but please take some responsibility for your own actions.

Hell yeah. But even if *we* decide to use it, we should be able to come here and discuss it without a wrath of anti-heroin posts . Agreed?
Fucken oath e-rep, my bad.
Quale, you getin' tired? I am :)
Well to be truthful, I was outragious in the start because the reason I didn't mention recreational use i.e. occasion use is because I thought it was that unlikely so I didn't mention it.
Alright so we've finished this without anybody leaving being flamed and learnt something(I have)and maybe turned away a few who coyuldn't handle it...hows that? fucken excellent I say, rare. all in all you smackheads are pretty reasonable going by this :)
very happy with this outcome
*won't invade another heroin thread again in other drugs - promise* Goodluck dudes!

Its easy to say that heroin ruins all lives
Its easy to say that heroin is ok in moderation.
Either one can be true in different circumstances. When it comes to a new user, theres no way to determine which way their habit will go.
Some people say that because you can never know, you should never try it. Others say that it's worth trying. We're not going to come to a conclussion about that, but keep in mind that to kick a habit of 7 years, you would have to make yourself believe that you HATE heroin (in a unrational way, even though there are rational reasons to dislike heroin). So lay off the person who started this post.
And about the angry replies to this thread, if you feel the urge to yell at someone about how your use is fine and its just their case thats bad, maybe you should reconsider who you are trying to convince.
But I will agree that she doesn't know who you are so she can't make generalizations.
And the personification of heroin was weird too.

I'll start this out by congratulating all of you who managed to deal with your addictions, kick them, and become better people because of it. No one is going to trivialize the trauma of kicking an addiction, especially an opiate addiction.
Now, onto the real point of this post... Some of the things people have said in this post are sad. Not because of their stories of heroin use gone bad, but because most of you people are blaming a drug for your own problems. Heroin dose not kill people, people kill themselves with heroin.
There are plenty of people out there who use opiates responsibly. Just because, for whatever reason, you didn't have the willpower to control yourself doesn't mean that other people don't. Some of you seem to have convinced yourselves that no one can possibly use opiates responsibly. Somehow, anyone who does must be lying. This is bullshit. Heroin is a drug, just like any other drug.
You are putting the needle in your own arm. You are the one who doesn't take the time to IV properly and fucked up your own veins. The drug did NOT do that to you. It isn't any "dirtier" than any other street drug. Everyone has their story about their sisters uncle's friend's college roommate's pet goat's former owner dying of heroin. Yes, people do overdo it with this drug, just like any other drug. It is an easy escape if you are at a shitty point in your life, but so are plenty of other things.
If you want to warn people about the addictive properties of a drug, fine. Go right ahead, that is good for harm reduction and I encourage you to spread the word. However, don't come in here and insult our intelligence by trying to tell us that some drug "gave" you problems. You took the drug and made your own.

deus121, my skin looks fine now, but it kinda sux when you go to your folks for 4th of july in florida with long sleeves...
glorify smack all you want, it's garbage...
very strange responses to my questions...
but whatever, i didn't think this was a forum i was too into.. i'll head elsewhere for more spirituality...
and as far as blaming the drug, i only blame myself!!!!!!!! so without knowing me, relax on your assumptions.....

This is one of the stupidest threads I have ever read.
I'm personally in the midst of struggling with an addiction to heroin. I'm having a real hard time quitting. It's really stupid.
On the other hand, all these post putting all the blame on heroin itself are fucking retarded. You people are even admitting the addiction doesn't happen over night. YOU HAVE TO TRY, TRY PRETTY HARD TO BECOME PHYSICALLY DEPENDANT ON HEROIN. At that point, you really can't say heroin made you do anything. You enjoyed the high, you abandoned your good judgement, and YOU put yourself there.
There are some good points in this thread. I've been abusing painkillers for 7 years. Until a few months ago, I was able to get high on no more than 20mgs of oxycodone for YEARS. A few years ago I used to use heroin. I snorted it. The stuff I was getting was probably the best you'd ever see. I was getting vast quantities at a ridiculously low (low is an understatement) price. But I never had a problem. I used it for quite a while then quit because my hook up was a fuck and even though I was trash, I still had enough moral values within me to say I'd rather not use it than put money in this asshole's pocket, DESPITE USING HEROIN REGULARLY FOR ABOUT HALF A YEAR on top of my other drug use.
I started using it again a few months ago. I started shooting up. This greatly increases the rate of addiction and tolerance. I got hooked. BUT IT'S NOT LIKE I DIDN'T TRY. For fear this would only be short lived, I wanted to take full advantage of it. I started buying 10 $20 vials a week that in the beginning were enough to get me REALLY high 3 times a piece. I still could have stopped. I continued doing this. Yes, the psychological aspects of addiction DEFINANTLY played some influence. But the point is, I made a conscious effort and essentially TRIED to do this to myself.
If I really wanted to stop now, I could. But I find it's easier to come down slowly than deal with a few days of withdrawal, particularly at work. I've now weened myself back to OxyContin. I doubt I will use heroin again anytime soon. I don't mind being addicted to oxycodone. My only goal is to get back to strictly weekend use.
I have no problem understanding the control heroin must have after years of injecting it. But I also understand you had PLENTY of time to do something about it before you got to a really extreme point. No, I don't have years of IV heroin use as a point of reference. But within a few short months I've gotten to the point where half a gram of high purity heroin (no, the stuff I'm getting now is not as good as the stuff I got a few years ago, but very pure none-the-less) barely gets me off. I got there REALLY fast. On the other hand I do have YEARS of experience with opiate painkillers. I know how it works.
Of all the drugs I have ever used, and I have used virtually every psychoactive substance at least 3 times at the disposal of man, opiates and even heroin are the least likely to put your mind out of control. Why? Because they don't really do much to alter your thinking. With the severe cravings of heroin that cause you to think about some really fucked up shit, you still have a lot of your consciousness left. Drugs like MDMA and LSD and such really hurt your consciousness. When you do weird things during periods of using them, it's because your brain is crosswired and you have a lot more of an excuse to doing weird things than simply answering to cravings.
Because your consciousness is mostly intact, you still have choices within your control. Sure, instant gratification and euphoria with continuing your use looks pretty good compared to getting off, but come on. If anything, the major problem faced by addicts is CLINICAL DEPRESSION, where yes, the heroin does play a factor, but saying heroin is somehow different than other drugs and more dangerous is just not logical. The majority of people can take painkillers, which are essentially the same thing and not have a problem. Using a needle increases the addiction. If you were banging any other opiates, you'd have the same problem. The problem is NOT just heroin.
For an example of how your consciousness remains intact despite opiate use/abuse, I give you this: My father has been using painkillers to manage pain for 7 years (hmm, how do you think I got started). To this very day, he takes at most 30mgs of OxyContin daily. He has never used more than 50mgs in his entire life, and that was right before he got a new liver. Why doesn't he have a problem? He doesn't think like that. He doens't CONSCIOUSLY CHOOSE TO.
And yes, I have been very vocal about my current heroin addiction on this board. Not because I blame heroin or hate myself. But simply because this kind of information doesn't go around. You don't get to see it. A newbie usually doesn't get the opportunity to read about someone going through a heroin addiction from beginning to end. It's useful information and paints a much more realistic and practical picture than crying about how YOU fucked up on heroin.
I have said this before, and I will say it a million times again. This is why I absolutely hate BOTH sides of the drug issue. Pro or anti, all you people do is highlight the points that are condusive to your individual and most often ignorant perspective instead of providing any real enlightening information that could be used by some or illustrates the issues as they truly are. The end result is that most of these "facts" are bullshit and people that will never use drugs remain ignorant to what's going on and create a perpetual cycle where drug users are reguarded as second rate human beings and the people that do use drugs will never comprehend the true harm they are doing usually until it is too late and the damage is done.
In the end, yes, I would discourage someone who hasn't from IVing heroin. But the heroin is not going to make or break you as a human being either way. I have been to hell over and over again in the 7 years I have been using various drugs, I have seen the absolute worst of human nature. My bad experiences are NOT going to make me sit here and put the blame game on drugs. I have seen people live and die. I have seen people kill and be killed. The one and only drug I would adamantly discourage anyone from using, on the basis of not only my own personal experience, but my extended observations, is MDMA. And again, that's not because I have a sob story about how it ruined my life or killed anyone I know. Hell, all of this is coming from someone who thinks is morally unethical to distribute drugs to others.
For those of you who's lives have been ruined by heroin or known others who have, I am truly sorry for you. Not in a condescending way. Not to discount or underwrite your experiences. I disagree with your views, but I still have empathy left in me to care.
I appologize for this post, it's disorganized and sloppy, but I'm going fast and I'm just really disillusioned at the stupidity of the human species I so unfortunantly belong to.

Ford, if your still using a physically addictive drug "responsibly" then your still in denial; simple.
Not simple. I can use a baseball bat responsively, or I can kill somone with it, that's up to my self control.
I am fucking sick of people blaming shit on drugs. Physically addictive chemicals CAN be used responsibly! It is not an impossible feat!
People need to get over these misconceptions, I don't give a fuck if your friend/uncle/father/brother/or your own damn self died from a heroin OD, it was not the fault of the drug. It was a lack of selfcontrol and willpower when it comes to dealing with said substance. Period.
I know it can be DAMN NEAR IMPOSSIBLE to control yourself in certain situations when you are fiending/craving like you wouldn't even think possible, but it can be overcome. The drug can not completely overpower the human mind, unless that mind is willing.
