I want to try LSD

Hey guys. I'm 19 years old, in college, and I want to try LSD for the first time. I'm at a point in my life where I feel like I don't have any direction. I've lost motivation in school because I don't feel like I'm working towards anything. All I do is study and smoke weed during the week, and on the weekend I party. I feel like I'm just going through the motions without a goal to work towards. I'm not finding pleasure in things that I used to and I feel like there is a void in my life. I'm not trying to fill that void with drugs-- I just want to trip on LSD. I don't know what I'm looking to get out of it, I just feel like it could help me. Last year a friend of mine was going through somewhat of the same stuff, and I think his acid trip helped him figure out some stuff.

How much should I take to make it a valuable experience? FYI, I smoke a lot of weed but I've never done psychedelics before.

Hello, and welcome! My first reaction to your post was "Oh no. This is NOT the kind of headspace that anyone should be in for their first LSD trip," but having thought a bit more about it, I will say this:

If you do end up trying it soon, try to focus on the fact that you are doing it to explore the experience and work through all the stuff you have going on. A lot of people (more than 50% of them?) take LSD for 'fun,' but in my experience this drug is most beneficial (and less likely to lead to a bad trip) if one takes it as a vehicle for exploring the inner self. You're taking LSD, but you are experiencing YOURSELF. (Since you've never taken it I may well be coming off as sounding a bit crazy, but I'm sure someone on here will back me up before too long).

For the first time, I recommend starting with a single blotter. How much LSD is in there will vary from batch to batch, so if you know someone with regular access follow their advice. I would also consider a trip buddy, either someone else who is taking it for the first time or, better yet, a more seasoned tripper who will either join you, or act as your tripsitter. Either way, make sure it's areal person with whom you feel genuinely comfortable. You'll be taking this thing to work through some inner issues. Don't complicate things by doing it with someone who's going to add unnecessary external issues.

Finally, read through some LSD FAQs. There's a lot of very standard but important advice. Set and setting are the 2 factors you're likely to find mentioned ad nauseum on most FAQs, so that should tell you how important they are.

All the best!

Hello! I am younger then you (15) but I think I might be able to help you. I took acid the first time just to see what all the hype was about. I took it and thought to myself, hmm not what I expected. Sure it was fun as hell, and I enjoyed it alot but there was more too it. Black Octogon is exactly correct. Your experiencing yourself. Sense then I've taken it to help me with my life. It's helped me find out what I want from life, it helped me find thugs to motivate myself and it helped me to fill that "void" your talking about. That didn't all come from a single trip, but it's a great tool for what you are thinking to use it for. My advice to you is, take it with a friend that has tried it already an the first time just take it and experience what it's like. Don't expect it to fix your problems just have a nice trip. Then, a few weeks later do it again. This time you should try to use it as a tool to help you with those problems. I'd deffinetly have a trip sitter, but one who is sober. Have them there to talk to, but maybe make them leave for a little bit and then come back. I find it's alot easier to deal with inner problems while alone. That's just my two cents though, hope it helps!

Yea exactly, I want to do it to explore my inner self. I'm not depressed or anything, I just feel aimless. Everybody around me seems to know what they want to do with their life, but I just can't begin to fathom life after college. I just want to make sure I get something out of this. The friend I was talking about took 2 hits his first time. I've researched acid on Erowid and it seems like this would be a good dose, but I'll take into consideration what you said. Thanks for the advice :)

I asked my friend yesterday and he wants to trip with me! It's also his first time so I think I want someone who has done LSD before to babysit us.

For safety's sake, I think just about anyone should take a light trip first, which probably means about one tab, depending on potency. All the advice in this thread is sound. Don't expect it to solve your problems, but what you can expect is an interesting, new, unexpected angle on things. It might be just what it takes to give you direction, or maybe not - it'll always be hard to say for sure, until you've tried it.

Being on LSD feels like being my real self, and doubly so for mescaline. Both substance unlock things and take away self-inflicted barriers. The confidence and crisp clarity of thought is profound, genuine and liberating. I find myself wishing I could keep those parts of the trip, but apparently that's what we have to work for.

You do experience yourself, in all sorts of bizarre and interesting ways. Your subconscious is laid bare and visible, especially, I imagine, at higher doses. This can be an unpleasant or terrifying experience, which is why it's usually best to start with a modest dose. Alexander Shulgin, reflecting on his first mescaline trip, says he was amazed that such a small amount of the substance could do this to him; he realised it was not the substance itself, but what the substance was unlocking within himself. The trip was in his own mind. Your mind wholly and completely creates the experience, and there are no limits. Enjoy, and prepare yourself!

I wouldn't worry too much about having a sober sitter, a friend dosing with you should be fine. If you are that worried, have someone who is sober that you can atleast call if needed. I started to freak out on my first psychedlic trip, so I called a friend, As soon as they answered I could barely remember why I needed to call them in the first place, talking to someone instantly turned my trip completly around into a good direction....Something to keep in mind.

i would actually advise AGAINST having a "sober sitter". sober people will trip you out while youre frying. do it either alone, or with a friend or two that will also be on acid.

^ TOTALLY agree 1000% In the presence of a non-tripping person, even a close friend you completely trust, something about the way psychedelics affect you cause you to obsess on what others are thinking, especially non-trippers you are around. Can be quite uncomfortable and cast a trip into a bad light.

Hmm different strokes for different folks I guess. I've trip-sat friends and vice-versa and find it to be a wonderful thing. I admittedly did not have a sitter for my first time and might have been a bit self-conscious if I had, now that I think about it. But the advice about having a trip-sitter has been in the standard arsenal of psychedelic harm reduction for aaaaaaaaages.
(and there's a good reason for that)

lsd is just a tool that YOU use to get what YOU want out of said chemical.
its all up to you, but just like riding a bike, you have to learn.
if you are scared in any way, have a sober sitter around,
tell him what you plan to do, then trip,
lsd lasts quite some time,
so have a plan and stick with it,
the easiest way to find yourself in a bad trip is not following your plan,
you say, ok, im tripping in my dorm,
then you say, its cold i need a blanket,
then you see you dont have a blanket,
so you leave your dorm and wander off,
then find yourself naked in the park humping a tree.

not to scare you, but ive seen some fucked up shit, and if you get DOI blotter instead,
oh boy...
