I want to go to hell.

Hey freddy, just think of the idea of God as that benevolent dictator that you struggled to find a historic precedent for in the philosopher kings thread. He's free to be replaced by your heightened awareness the Eastern perspective or whichever perspective tickles you at any moment, and may the transition back and forth be as painless as you want it to be.
It's people's moral failings and naivete that caused all the events of history, symbols just tug people's minds in certain directions, but they never pulled a trigger for all the blood spilt on their banners over the years. And the directions their minds get pulled in are in existence with or without the symbols to do the pulling.

Again how do you know what that lad felt.

You cant kill God. God is Life. How can you kill Life?

Have you heard of Corrie Ten Boom a famous concentration camp survivor? Very passionate Christian, written several books about her experience. So no not all concentration camp survivors are atheists now. Incidentally, her faith was strengthened , the people you spoke to lost thier faith. What do you think was different about their experiences and perspectives and why?

Its not an essay title lol Im just pondering..:D

Oh yes a quote from Elie Wiesel about his experience at Auschwitz.

"Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever. Never shall I forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity, of the desire to live. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my God and my soul and turned my dreams to dust. Never shall I forget these things, even if I am condemned to live as long as God Himself. Never."

Again I never said I did know how that lad felt but as I said before choking or strangling ain't no fun and I don't believe the lad enjoyed his experience.

Yeah I read her book as well The Hiding Place I don't begrudge her her happiness and solace found in God. I do find it incredible that she retained her faith in the face of such atrocity. However I dare say that most Holocaust survivors have lost their faith. And for good reason.

As to the differences in their experiences. Its hard to say. Some people can't stand the idea that there isn't a God some people can. And the fact that Elie Wiesel was Jewish and Corrie was not. The main difference being that the hatred of the Holocaust was directed at Elie's entire RACE! While Corrie chose a path that led her to the camps. Elie had no choice.

In Elie Wiesels mind he was suffering unjustly for what God had ultimately made him into, a Jew. In short maybe Elie felt like he and his family were being punished simply because he and his race existed. As opposed to Corrie who went to the camps because of the choices she made. Maybe he saw the unjustness of it all that Christians were not being targeted and only Jews and other so called undesirables were!

Of course I can't say for certain but I hope you understand what I mean.

Interesting. Can you elaborate?

Umm for example I guess. Hanging, nuking, shooting, poisoning and bashing. Those are all pretty effective ways at killing life.

Interesting. In other words God is some all wise philosopher king who would rather not involve himself too deeply in peoples lives because he sees the futility of it? I guess that makes sense.
That's your idea, but it sounds good to me.
Plus: every other implication there is to be drawn from the idea.
I don't see the point in grinding axes over and over, especially considering you can only do so much about it over these waves, might as well try to do more with our "philosophizing time" while we're at it. People's attitudes in relation to their circumstances are only so useful for drawing conclusions, and contradictions lies just around the corner. What would an Auschwitz survivor think about using a signal before cutting into my lane on the highway? That affects me far more than whether or not his belief system is similar to my own.

Point taken. I guess ultimately it is something of a waste of our philosophizing time as you put it.

Sometimes considering what I perceive that has been done to me by "G_d", I grow extremely enraged, and feel the same way. I feel betrayed, used. I feel this "G_d" is completely selfish in the wrong ways. Why would I want to hang out with the asshole that made me allergic to everything? That gives me pain? That makes it obvious that he's playing an active role in my life, still, in making me suffer?

This is partial... there's perhaps more to my thoughts, but I'm sort of with you.

The problem perhaps lies in my own mind, though... how I'm seeing. What I'm expecting based on some things that might not be as they seem?

Guilt free living is great - deluding yourself is what it takes - unfortunately once your delusions are unmasked there's no going back. BUT man you cannot disrespect the concept of guilt free living it's absolutely wonderful while it lasts.

you are what you eat

be all that you can be

eat as much as you can
=D

.. lol
you do read my mind lefty.
ive told you this.

was just thinking how someone might think that i am ignoring them, and so i was about to write and say "i am rinsing, and prone to drowning others atm."

in the wake of the flood, your flood, is all you held&hold near and dear.

OP what if god is great and loving. what if the evils you think are caused by god are actually caused by a 'devil'. I dont believe in any of this christian hoopla but i think if you're gonna believe in "heaven and hell", you may as well believe in the devil as well as god. It sounds to me that you are forgetting the devil's role. All the horrible events arent caused because god is sadistic or wants to be entertained, perhaps he's fighting to make the world better but his power is limited?

"mutations are part of evolution"
dude what if conjoined twins are part of evolution, we should start letting them stay conjoined and start mating conjoined twins, maybe in a few generations we'll be able to think with 2 brains and function off of 2 hearts. If one twins' heart fails, theres always another one. How do you think cows got their 4 stomachs? Perhaps autism, alzheimers and other illnesses alike are part of something bigger - part of our brain become less usefull in this day and age and other parts of the brain attempting to evolve. Wouldnt that be epic if all autistics started becoming sevants or became telepathic or something. I think it's all plausable :P

alasdair, maybe the op isnt trying to be pissy, perhaps he just wants to be great like socrates.

OP u should get a taste of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeSSwKffj9o

^^ you have to go through "hell" before you can get to "heaven"...is something ive heard said that remains true, atheist or not, dead or alive, sweet and sour chicken or, fire cracker prawn.

^YES! I had a similar thought on some heavy psychedelics: What if this is just the first level of heaven, further weeding us out. We have to pass 2 tests to stay in the christian heaven for good. Perhaps before this we were in another dimension, another planet, another species entirely and we were tested in another way. Perhaps good had a whole different meaning on that planet

"you have to lose everything before you can gain anything"

The amount of contradiction and mis-information in these statements has already been addressed/is not worth me taking time out of my night to address.

They would live, or die. but insofar as has ever happens, most of these have proved bad.
secondly, if one twin's heart failed it would decay and kill them both.
and a third point if we breed them that's controlling genetics which is not natural evolution.
