I've heard some people done iv ethanol but hasn't never met anyone doing it. Also have heard there are some risks involved (something related to heart?) but nothing spesific. According to wikipedia alcohol can be administered via iv route.

Has anyone here tried alcohol iv and what were its effects compared to oral? What amount iv is comparable to oral route? Also what risks it might have vs. oral administration?

If you don't dilute the solution with water (you would not want to exceed 10% ethanol), the high alcohol content is going to cause damage to your vein and could collapse it.

Ethanol isn't a drug worth injecting.

Ok, thanx for info. I'm not going to inject pure ethanol. Was just interested to hear scientific explanation for its dangers and personal experiences (if someone has tried).

IV ethanol is dangerous because normally with orally administered ethanol you can vomit and clear your GI tract of it, limiting absorbtion before you reach the level of alcohol in your blood that will poison you. If you're banging it into your blood directly your BAC is liable to go through the roof.

As CH stated injection of alcohol can damage and destroy your veins. In addition it can cause things like metabolic acidosis. Don't do it.

I have had interested in this also. All I've heard from ppl who have done it that it produces extreme rapid intoxication and very nasty hangover right after the shot. Probably not the smartest move.

The hangover is probably especially prevalent if you are injecting anything but pure diluted ethanol in water (e.g. vodka).

Yea I had some idiotic friend shoot up about a shot glass sized shot of whiskey. Said it burned like hell, gave him a shitty buzz, then a terrible hangover so quick. Seemed very unpleasant and quite dangerous. Btw he found the whiskey in the bottom of an old bottle.... That he saw lying in the street. Goddam...

I actually thought this the other day after hearing about more alcohol deaths from plugging. I bet pure it would absolutely ruin your veins, I swilled <3ml pure ethanol around in my mouth and after a couple of seconds everything burned. It is an irritant after all.
