Not quite sure where the snorting an apple bit comes in - do you snort crack through an apple?

Jimmy White has admitted that his secret crack cocaine addiction had serious negative implications on both his career and his finances.

He embarked on what he describes as “three months of madness”, where he “frittered away” £32,000, “a massive amount back then”.

“I had one sneaky account with NatWest,” he recalled. “I started dipping into this every now and then to fund my crack habit. I did the lot in less than three months. Every penny.”

It was seeing friend Kirk Stevens in such a bad condition that eventually made him quit the drug.

He went to visit the player at his home with the hope of finding more crack cocaine. White recalls Stevens grabbing the apple he had brought with him and inhaling the whole thing in its entirety, “the pips, the core - the entire works”.

Yeah, but.. who hasn't done that? I prefer watermelons though.

I knew that Jimmy White had a liking for coke, i never knew that he was into crack though. 8o

Same goes for Kirk Stevens, it was only after his oppoent complained about Kirk being "as high as a kite" when Kirk Stevens Hammered him in outrageously flamboyant style that they then introduced drug testing to snooker. A lot of the big names of snooker in the 80s were into the stuff. I guess its the usual thing of wealthy people having a lot of cash and the time to spend it on such pursuits.

In more recent times Hendry made a very likeable gesture of solidarity in standing by Jimmy in refusing to be drug tested after an exhibition or match (cant recall). I sincerely doubt if Hendry was ever into coke, but his gesture of solidarity must have meant a lot to Jimmy, and helped avoid too much suspicion and rumour mongering falling on his head.

I went to see Jimmy and Alex in an Exhibition in Preston a few years ago. I wonderd why Jimmy walked around the place like the Hoffemeister bear and had the confidence to stare at individual faces in the crowd. That was the night he got busted for having coke in his hotel room, so all became clear. Ive no doubt the stuff hindered his career. It must have made it even easier for the clean living Davis and Hendry to keep hoovering up all the titles, whilst Jimmy was busy hoovering up cocaine. :(

I'm highly dubious about the whole apple having been snorted, but it's a fucking great headline and thread title. :D

Shame to see what coke did to damage the potential of one of the game's most charismatic and talented players though.

I was in a pub in NLondon with a mate bitd and it was a lockin about 2am when the other 5 people said they were going out to get 'supplies ' and would be back in 5 minutes. One was a well known snookerist - anyhoo there was a pool table that had been left mid game and after waiting around and helping ourselves to whiskeys we decided to pot a few a minute or so later the 'crew' returened with a masoovive bag but the snokerist went radio on us 'who's potted my balls you cunts blah blahblah after massive apologies (I had never been in this pub and didnt know anyone and the only resason we were invited to stay was i heard someone tooting in the loo earlier and asked if i could score - ahhh the 90's so coke friendly) and a couple of the lads were the snokerists 'men' and had no necks and big arms.
all ended up good left 7am xmas eve just ready to do the shopping with a cokeover/hanhover....happy daze

Good call, yeah..

I wouldn't want to go for a Golden Delicious, think it'd to be too harsh on the nose.

Red Delicious maybe. Jimmy is very good friends with Ronnie Wood from The Rolling Stones. I never understood the stories of the several day drinking binges that those 2 and Ronnie O'Sullivan would go until now, i mean how did they physically manage to do it? It all makes a lot more sense now. :\

And Jimmy's constant "bottling it" under pressure also makes a lot more sense now. Quite sad really. The best player never to become world champion, without any doubt. The even sadder thing was how delusional Jimmy persisted in being, when at least a decade past his best he still kept insisting "Im gonna come back and win it next year":o

It took him some time to face the reality. He still loves the game though, and just about hangs on to the lower tiers of the proffesional ranks, as his from is so patchy. He never even qualifies for the last 32 TV stage anymore, hasnt done for several years. Give up the coke Jimmy, for yourself, and for your legions of supporters. The Brittish love an underdog, and there was never a person that fitted the bill better than Jimmy.
