I read diphen had some value as a cough med, is it true ?

I can't be arsed to search, sorry bluelight, suboxone sure is weak as a painkiller, I'm actually feeling a kind of mild flu (that won't get worse hopefully), so I went and bought off brand benadryl and offbrand robaxacet. I went to a different pharmacy where I have an account and they don't know I'm on suboxone and asked for Mersyndol (doxylamine/tylenol/codeine) (mostly because I wanted Doxylamine, it is in NOTHING anymore except Nyquil syrup and boxes of pills (really damn expensive). We used to have Unisom and Unisom II....they both have Diphenhydramine in them...only difference is the II which is a gelcap and used to have doxylamine doesn't anymore. Mersyndol turned out to be really fucking expensive so I passed.

Anyways, I don't have anything for my cough, and I'm at a sub-optimal dose of suboxone (trying to taper) and I only have 4mg for tomorrow and monday, the day after that is refill day, suboxone is served like methadone here, impossible to get more than a week's worth, and you gotta ub your the pills in the pharmacy.

Enough whining, the big question is in the title.

I have found diphenhydramine to help with coughs a little bit but not much at all really. It will dry up your sinuses thus stopping the gunk from running down the back of your throat that is making you cough so it works that way. Personally i would just go for the mersyndol. Codeine is a pretty good cough suppressant and doxylamine is a much better anti-histamine all around.

I am starting to get the flu as well i think cause i got that pre flu starting to feel like shit feeling. I can't even get any mersyndol this far out of the city and the NyQuil costs a fucking fortune. So right now i'm taking hydromorphone, diphenhydramine and acetaminophen to help with the flu bullshit. I remember the Unisom 2's and i always bought them instead of diphenhydramine cause it's a better anti-histamine all around. Why they seem to be removing it from all sleeping pills and cough and cold shit is beyond me. I wish i could find a pharmacy that stocks promethazine but no fucking pharmacy does here and none of the ones i went to in Ottawa did either. We have a perfectly good anti-histamine and anti-nausea drug that is OTC yet hardly everyone knows what it is because cause Gravol is what all doctors push.

ive acquired a taste for the nyquil "cough" syrup, not the "cough & cold". its got 30mg dxm and 12.5mg doxylamine per 30ml i think. works decently for cough for a non script/otc med. and its not loaded with tylenol and pseudo ephedrine like the regular nyquil or the no name stuff. it isnt cheap though about $17 for the big bottle here. codeine in of itself is great for coughs but if your on suboxone i dont know how much of the cough suppressing effect would be blocked by the subs

Yep, I thought about buying nyquil pills (same as the syrup) but both were pretty expensive, because I was also buying offbrand robaxacet for these pre-flu feelings in my muscle and the headache, I didn't like the idea of paying almost 30 dollars (with taxes) for 2 flu medication. It's a shame you can't get promethazine OTC P_A, it's in every big chain here I didn't get some either cos the offbrand benadryl was really really cheap on bargain. I wanted mersyndol mostly for the doxylamine since it's in nothing else but Nyquil anymore!

After sleeping almost 11 hours I feel better now, no more headache and muscle pain. I hope the flu will just fly by without turning into something worse like bronchitis, I didn't even go out to buy cigarettes, I really do not want this to happen anymore, about 3 years in a row where I get either bronchitis or pneumonia. I don't get their flu shots either, if they were like in the USA, I would do it, but ours in Canada are cut with "adjuvents" making it so they can make 5 shots out of 1 real shot and the shit that's in there I don't want in my body.

Opiates usually work well as cough medicines, does bupe not follow that trend?

It doesn't seem like it, methadone prevented me from coughing indeed, suboxone is a poor opiate in every way despite its inherent binding strength. Damn partial agonists. Why can't they just ween me off what I was already on like in more enlightened european countries...

P.S. I was pleasurably surprised 2 hours ago, I took 3 400mg methocarbamol/325mg tylenol and 50mg benadryl while rewatching Breaking Bad, I couldn't finish the episode, because about 20 minutes later I did the brushing teeth intensely + mouthwash trick and had 2mg of suboxone and was FLOORED. It wasn't an euphoric nod, but a nod nonetheless. I have Soma coming in the mail due to it not being available here at all since 20 years....I'm excited at what this will do since methocarmabol managed to kill any pre-flu muscle pain feels I had when I woke up yesterday morning.

I remember buying OTC methocarbamol/tylenol/codeine back then to add over regular tylenol #1 cwe and it wasn't that hard on me! And it was at a point where my tolerance was extremely low, only had codeine in CWE form where the caffeine would follow, and that was my trick to kill the caffeine, eat a couple Robaxisal C 1/2. I didn't even know about Mersyndol then but I bet it works good too.

On a scale of 10, where would one place methocarbamol and carisoprodol ? I had it so long ago as a kid when I hurt myself in phys ed class before it was removed from our pharmacopeia. And yeah the drying of the mucous membranes is what causes diph to work as a cough supressant.
