I work a pretty physical job with long hours, pulling in double shifts on a regular basis. My performance is sometimes sluggish and energy drinks aren't quite cutting it. Someone's been slipping me some adipex to make me move quicker but since I'm already pretty slim I don't really want to keep taking prescription weight loss meds. Any recommendations?

Pretty much all stimulants are going to encourage weight loss, especially adipex (phentermine.)

I struggle with a pretty rigorous schedule myself, and I end up using caffeine, b vitamins, and some other amino acids pretty regularly to stay sharp.

modafinil(Provigil) would likely help you well, and its not an "amphetamine-like" stimulant. its actually perscribed for what you are describing so i'd look into it.

if not that then amphetamine would be helpful, but it causes weight loss and has a high potential for addiction so idk about that.

modafinil works wonders for what you're talking about...and is much much less addictive than the classic "Take this pill to get things done" drugs (Adderall, Dexedrine, Ritalin, Concerta, etc).

Prescription weight loss drugs are much closely related to the amphetamines than modafinil. Also a possibility is reducing the dose of the amphetamine-like stimulant in question and consuming lots of B-vitamins and small (below 100mg) doses of caffeine. I find that 5 or 10mg of Dexedrine and Red Bull followed by a Vitamin B complex and 500mg Vitamin C pill a few hours later is a lot easier to deal with and a lot nicer on my body then just taking more speed.

Modafinil is absolutely worth investigating, no question. It seems a lot more benign than other stimulants, and the crash isn't nearly as bad.

Do, however, start with less than a whole pill, and adjust from there. I find that 50mg, once or twice in a day is good, but 100mg at once led to some anxiety and frustration.

Other stimulants might help too, but those aren't really sustainable for daily use for that purpose.

as mentioned, modafinil might work (though i found it better for focus/concentration than energy). over-the-counter, you might want to try a high dose vit. B complex and some quality ginseng. i find that both do nothing for me if i'm just sitting around, but if i'm active, they increase my stamina considerably.
