Title says it all. Like I've mentioned in another gaming thread I built myself a system that can play games from 16 oldschool gaming systems. Problem is that:

1. I was too young to play a lot of the GOOD or CLASSIC games of that time. I grew up playing several of the classics but I was negative 2 years old when the Nintendo was first released in America. I KNOW there are a lot I'm missing out on.

2. I moved on to the Sega Genesis as soon as it was released. There were a lot of games I never got to experience. Never even owned an Super Nintendo.

On my new system I've played the most obvious: Chrono Trigger, the Final Fantasy Series, etc. but when you download every ROM of every game ever made for a console, there's literally 1,000-2,000 games to choose from. I'd like all your guy's input on the next games I should try. Help me get my money's worth from this contraption. =D

Also keep in mind that I LOVE old school role playing games like Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. The side-shooters of the early 90s... not so much. Double Dragon I liked because it was hand-to-hand combat but something like Contra, not so much.

shining force 1 and 2 are both fantastic turn based strategy RPGs where you go along recruiting new people to join your party

it's not very complicated or difficult, but still fun as hell and has a good 24 hours of game play

I always loved the original Alex Kidd in Miracle World but many hate it.

And Joe Montana Football. No stats, like 4 plays and hours of fun.

I wish they would remake a lot of these games i dont know why they dont
and i understand its the next generation and all that but i think side scrollers should make a legit return

castle crashers was awesome
id love to see some games like final fight or double dragon come back

or even a side scrolling RPG like symphony of the night

Not sure why they don't remake some of those old classic games, kind of like how they remake classic movies. Seems like a fucking goldmine to me. I can't think of a subculture of people that are bigger saps for nostalgia than gamers. Take basically any classic game, remake it with today's technology, and gamers would be lining up in droves to buy it imo.

I know right, i cant be alone at all
At very worst remake them and put them for download

Theres just too many games people absolutely loved that im sure would do major numbers. It cant take to to much effort or cost to to much to remaster games that used to be 8 and 16 bit games considering the technology we have now

Especially certain games that arnt even on next gen consoles

Nintendo seemed to do it a little bit when the N64 came out. I know they at least remade Bomberman and a couple others. I don't really consider franchises "remakes"(Zelda, Sonic, Mario, etc). They should definitely do some more.

Arent a lot of the classic games available on the new generation consoles via downloads? I think mobile gaming has a lot to do with why you dont see traditional side scrollers, beat um ups etc. but surely there are indie developers still producing them.

Yeah there are a lot of ways to play the older games on newer consoles. I mean more like re-doing the entire game. So if you're remaking an old side-scroller like Contra, you just create it more like Halo.

Ahh gotcha. I guess in a way, continuing franchises like Super Mario Bros, Zelda etc does this already. But I agree a total remake of old games with new tech seems like a gem.

The nintendo consoles have a bunch of games, but the playstation and xbox are lacking...their old games revolve around the ps1 and the original xbox

I see. I thought I watched a video that was saying a bunch of classics were recently added to Xbox or PS4 stores but it very well may have been Wii U.

I havent owned a console since Genesis, although I lived with people who had N64 and PS1. I really want to get an older console and was considering Dreamcast or Gamecube. Any thoughts on these or other earlier gen models? Or should I go with an emulator type thing?
