In theory, yes, but in paractice the secondary effects of alcohol and sheer amount required make it a very risky option that is never used.

I think some metabolites of diazepam and a few other benzos also have half lives in the hundreds of hours. There are definitely other drugs that have even longer half lives that put the benzos to shame, amiodarone is the worst I know of with a truly ungodly half life of 15-140 days.

I love me some butalbital. I get (when I can) Fiorinal, the version with aspirin not acetaminophen, and no codeine. Back when I had no tolerance they were really nice, they still are but I need more than one these days.

To be honest? Around 700mg-800mg, or 100-150mg higher, of butalbital is nothing compared to any benzodiazepine. Up to 9mg of lorazepam, alprazolam, & clonazepam (& 60mg of diazepam) is completely boring, nearly placebo. I'm guessing its do to the genetic modulation of long term GABAergics (only +4yrs though?) on genetic neural makeup. Only thing i can say is definitively clonazepam has some minor effects; lorazepam & diazepam i can tell of an anticonvulsant-type of effect, not necessarily "fulfilling" as butalbital is.

i know when i was in a detox a couple years ago for a number of things, one being several mgs of benzos daily for over 5 years, they put me on phenobarbital around the clock for like 2 weeks, and i didn't have the worst benzo withdrawal or seizures or anything. so, maybe barbs are good for that?

Yes Stray- they do use phenobarbital for benzodiazepine withdrawal, this is a known detox treatment for benzodiazepine & general GABAergic withdrawal (sometimes ethanol; GHB, carisoprodol, too). But it DEFINITELY does not go the other way around (benzos for barbs).

& Captain.H -- yea i know, i remember you mentioning this on another thread on butalbital.. Its sad, & i'm sorry to hear. The doses originally mentioned above (1300mg!?!?) just seemed a bit outrageous, even to someone like me & my tolerance- so i thought i'd post. & i do not recommend a SINGLE dose of 1300mg of butalbital (ESPECIALLY if combined w/ acetaminophen and/or caffeine, or codeine).

For reference, I was previously on carisoprodol 10500-12250mg per day (for back pain, break-thru pain). I was yanked off of that for good & put onto butalbital when it was scheduled.. & butalbital i've waivered between 1500mg-2000mg/day.

Transition from the one GABAergic to the other was seamless for me. Although i do remember alprazolam (1-3mg would substitute for one dose of carisoprodol; 1400-2100mg) would particularly substitute for carisoprodol; it doesn't anymore w/ butalbital whatsoever. In fact, i'd say alprazolam; a thienobenzodiazepine, is the worst. Typical/classic 1,4-benzodiazepines like clonazepam or diazepam have at least marginal psychoactivity for me, but at much much higher doses as a substitution; the lack of NMDA antagonism is definitely noticeable too.

Addiction specialist's office is closed, so I guess this is my next best bet.

The warning on the info packet says "Do not take this drug if you have a history of addiction." I'm on Suboxone and Xanax already, and I see an addiction specialist. So obviously I have a history of addiction.

I suffered a pretty gnarly concussion last night and ended up in the ER, and they prescribed me Fioricet to help relieve the symptoms. They prescribed me 15 pills. I'm not sure of how many mg. I haven't taken it into the pharmacy yet because my insurance denied me something as harmless as Lexapro the other day, so I'm worried they won't give me this one either (except I really legitimately need it), since I'm assuming if it's addictive, it's a controlled substance.

My questions are this:
Is Fioricet really THAT addicting? What can I expect when I take it? Will there be any drug interactions between the Fioricet and the Suboxone, Xanax, or combination thereof?

All I can find on the internet is generic information and stories of people getting high from it, so that's not very helpful. Any info would be appreciated? Thanks

We only have Fiorinal in Canada (aspirin rather than apap in it) and I was scripted Fiorinal while on methadone, in fact, the reason why I got on opiates, debilitating atypical facial pains, my methadone doc scripted me 10 x Fiorinals x 3. I'm most likely getting Fiorinal C 1/2 (with 30mg of codeine) or Codeine-Contin 200mg monday at the neurologist....no more topamax, trileptal and such bullshit, I have shown I was able to use opiates responsibly. He did mention Stadol in the past (butorphanol inhaler).

Anyway, the addictive ingredient in Fiorinal/Fioricet without codeine is butalbital, a very weak barbiturate, alcohol is more addictive and I'm sure you've gotten hammered before and didn't fall to alcholism (more rare these days when slightly less shitty when in wd drugs are so common these days).

It's used as a muscle relaxant, I find them amazing, especially those with codeine for tension headaches. They're less addictive than your average benzo for sure.
