I need some Codeine tolerance wisdom

I've been using codeine for years now and have reached the point where I feel almost nothing from it no matter how much I take. I've obviously reached the dose ceiling.

Here's what I'm wondering. Can I get my tolerance lowered by just lowering my daily dose for a week? I'm in a place where I can't really do cold turkey. If I take enough to just keep withdrawals at bay but no more, will that lower my tolerance? And if so how long should it take? Any advice would be appreciated.

Everyone should work their way up by using codeine first to the max but unfortanutely its not available to everyone so easy.

As for reducing your tolerance, take baby steps working your way down to smaller doses where you feel comfortable.

Then you probably will need to stop for a few months to get your tolerance down. Once you start up again, it won't take long to get up to where you are now.

Next step would be hydrocodone because you're not feeling anything from codeine but for harm reduction sake, quitting would be the best thing.

Ok, thanks for the reply. Would my tolerance go down if say I just lowered my dosage to 100mg daily for a month? Or does it only start lowering once it's out of your system?

I don't know exactly how that works. Someone will come along to explain it better.

I know that tolerance goes down after a while.......some after 1 month, other a lot longer. Everyones body chemistry is different & depending what you are using & how much.

In your case, you platued with codeine, so trying to get back to a 100mg tolerance will need for you to take some time off.

If you do take off for a month & start up again, 100 MG's of codeine will be awesome but your tolerance will quickly climb back up to 400mgs.

You could take it twice a week spreading it between days but if you start taking it every day, you will be at 400mgs again pretty fast.

You can try Ultra Low Dose Naltrexone, others on Bluelight have reported success with this method - I tried but didn't really notice much difference, and essentially turned to heroin anyway.

^ THIS is what led me to move up to oxy. I was at 1200 mgs of codeine a day. Short of getting something a lil stronger - maybe tilidine, dihydrocodeine (would not advocate oxy - it's basically smack but legal - lets be honest) the only way to get tolerance down is suffer for a few weeks with w/d symptoms (if you suffering you doing it right) by taking half of what you usually take, but not many can do this. Maybe move up to something SLIGHTLY stronger ?

Oxy is nothing like smack, and it's not legal for me you ignoramus.

You're not going to lower your tolerance that much unless you just stop for a while. That's what sucks about this stuff. Stop for a minute or move up to oxy. That's basically your options. You can try a taper but don't expect it to be super effective.

Thanks for the replies. I've gone through cold turkey maybe 6 or 7 times now, got clean for about a month, got in shape lifting weights and then ignored the warnings I got on here and did the "I'll only use it every Saturday" thing. Then you're sitting there on Sunday not high so you think "what's another day?" and here I am again. Awesome.

This is the first time I've ever got to the point where it stops working though because it's the first time I've ever not had to do CWE so I quickly got to the 400mg a day point. I honestly can't do cold turkey at the minute, I have too much work to do and when I've tried recently I've been getting this terrible anxiety/high heart rate/panic attack feeling that I've never had before (maybe because I've never done 400mg a day before?)

I guess I should try a taper then? It's so hard because even if you don't get euphoria you can still feel that it's in your body. That nagging "maybe another 200mg will get you high, taper properly tomorrow". Weird how you really never stop chasing that feeling. I can't imagine how strong it'd be with stronger opiates.

^ I think you should give a loperimide taper a try. Think it would work for you. Immodium is a strong opiod belive it or not (but only miniscule amounts get to your brain) but it takes care of severe withdrawal. It'll def help your codeine w/d. You just need someone to tell you how much to take.

You just have to find a dose to settle on tbh. 600mg with tolerance becomes 200mg with little tolerance. No one wants to be that guy who shoots up a g of dope everyday, find a dose that is easy to prepare and is light on the wallet, codeine can be enjoyed but every drug has its limits, stay within them and you'll always have some enjoyment.

I would either keep a low dose routine for a week or so and if you're the type of person who takes the daily dose at once, try dosing multiple times in a day vs all at once. I know people say you should take the dose at once, but IME I find it is better to have multiple doses 3-6 hr apart vs 8-12 hr apart.
