my names pat I'm 23 I have been using herion for 6 months now. Growing up seeing my own mother on the shit and the way it affected me as a young kid coming home to find my mother dead asleep not waking up not feeding me or taking me to school was scary and Scarring. And the last thing I ever thought that I would be doing the same. I'm looking to get on the methadone programme as I'm on $150 dollars a day gear habit. Can someone please help me and tell me my best options to get on the programme this is destroying my life and relationships with all my friends and family.

Thank you for your help.
Pat.

Hi Pat, welcome to Bluelight! Where do you live? Your local health services might be a good place to inquire.

If your in the US just look up local methadone clinics on google and give them a call. I found the process to be quick and easy. I was getting dosed 48 hours after calling them. Methadone is a great option despite its negative public image.

anywhere in the west you can just literally call a hotline or run a google search and ask. should be not hard. but dont expect wonders from methadonhe. i was on it twice and subutex 3 times. i relapsed with gusto each time.

I disagree. Methadone has not only saved my life but made it worth living as well. Many people have a fear of methadone that is unfounded. OP of you have questions about methadone put them in this thread or PM me and I'll try my best to answer them.

Crimson I respect your experience, but the problem with methadone is it can be a harder, more prolonged kick than just a short acting opioid like heroin. That's my only beef with it really, just some people find it harder to kick is all. It is pretty effective, overall, just really hard to quit. It can most definitely be hard to kick but it does make the addiction more manageable. It's a tricky balance.

Methadone saved my life without it I'd probably be dead. No joke! Like CrimsonJunk said go to Google and put in local methadone clinics. I was dosed 72 hours after calling. Up to 105 mgs and it works wonder's for me.

Your right that the withdrawals last longer than heroin and other short acting opiates. But methadone isn't competing with those drugs really as they are not offered as treatment in the US. It's only competitor in the treatment realm is buprenorphine (suboxone). I've been through bupe withdrawals and let me tell you that they are neither short nor pleasant. So when it comes down to it both maintenance drugs have unique pros and cons but withdrawals are not one of there differences as they both are gnarly.

the only reason methadone works wonders is because it is actually the one of the most POWERFUL full agonist long acting opiates of all TIME;

No shit people don't wanna use Heroin; Methadone if you take enough of it is basically like TIME RELEASE, long acting heroin in a pill form;

It is a pretty fucking brutal and strong opiod; When I first got on methadone i thought it was too good to be true;

But boy doesn't the initial Euphoria of methadone turn into pure hell after a few months;

Im on methadone right now for 2 1/2 years and I'm fucking miserable; once you are on methadone years it really starts to take a toll on your body/mind/ and spirit;

Im really not a fan of maintenance therapy; anyone who claims they are living or feeling normal on "methadone" or "suboxone" wait a few more years and tell me how good you feel;

Im preparing to do a full Ibogaine flood dose in Mexico soon and fuck all opiates forever.

Methadone is the worst DRUG ever to be addicted to; it is the most physically addicting drug every made by man and in the world.

I wouldn't recommend a Methadone addiction to ANYONE EVER unless you have absolutely exhausted all other forms of treatment available!

I get a prescription and go to a dr once a month and it still sucks;

I tried doing the clinic thing and literally could not do that bull shit.... I'm sorry but the clinic scene is demoralizing and sad; and most run by private companies;

Be careful what you wish for people.....

I agree with you on that point at least. Methadone saved my life when all other treatment options had failed. I am sorry your no longer happy with your treatment. I think your making the right decision for you by getting off. But I really urge you to taper a little bit before doing the iboga. Contrary to what those places want you to think and the internet buzz its not a magic cure for opiate withdrawal. Especially when it comes to methadone and its long withdrawals. I would hate for you to relapse due to horrible withdrawals after spending all that money.

Everyone's body's reacts to withdrawals and drugs differently. I personally was addicted to heroin in the worst way and went to the methadone clinic.
Before heroin, I had detoxed from oxycodone and it was a 3 day long nightmare. The longest I could go without heroin was maybe a day and a half. Heroin withdrawals aren't even in the same realm of oxycodone w/d to me.
That being said, I was on methadone almost 2 years. I went up to 70mg and then tapered to 3mg over a 8 or 9 month time. I've been without methadone for 5 days and I'm still in withdrawals. What's worse, the luckiest of people get past the worst of it after 10 days... While the average will suffer 3 weeks or more.
Please, please think about trying a suboxone clinic an do a quick taper. I've known many people to be so successful doing that.
If you are an addict, you will have to suffer at some point to quit, but it doesn't have to be a month long suffer. Those clinics are only interested in keeping you addicted to keep themselves paid.
Please, please think hard about what you want to see in your future.
