So you guys are sure the gabapentin withdrawals will be nothing like klonopin withdrawals?

I was on 1800 mg and now I?m at like 500 mg a day. I don?t feel hardly any withdrawals but I know that anxiety is going to be a killer.

How long do you think it will last?

I was on gabapentin since 2012 and always abused it until recently. Now I?m just looking forward to never being scared and letting a drug control me again.

Hi sonicwhite- Some people can just stop this drug, but others can have withdrawals (very intense ones) for pple that have used it recreationally.

Take few minutes to read this article please: [snip]
The withdrawal info is about 3/4's of the page down.

I hope this info helps you with your decision.

Take care,
Dale

Good morning Sonic. If you are getting the gabapentin prescribed you may consider asking your provider to give you a prescription for 100 mg capsules. That way you can taper down some more. I came down from the clinical maximum dose of 3200 mg that I was on for years but it was a slow taper that ended with 100 mg capsules twice a day. 500mg can definitely be decreased. At 500 though I am guessing you already have 100mg capsules since normal formulations that I know about are 100, 300, 800 (with a nice split in the middle to get to 400).

I do have to laugh at using links to American Addiction Centers as a resource. That brief and vague explanation of withdrawal symptoms seems more like an advertisement. They have spent significant millions to explode their web presence and apparently it is working.

Great advice.

And yes, American Addiction Centers' site, as most mainstream addiction resources, is... well... a less than desirable resource.

Please refrain from using sources that are shilling for the treatment industry in the future. Unbiased information from credible print journalism and medical journals are always best.

No, it will not.

You may be lucky and it may not be "a killer" especially since you've already tapered down to 500mg. I've been prescribed gabapentin 900mg/day for four years (and have abused it a handful of times during that four years) and there have been spells where I've stopped taking it cold turkey and the effect barely registered. If you've been through a benzo or even alcohol detox, comparatively, it is a day at the beach.
