I love Charlotte Church

Know the difference between what? I made a facetious initial comment about it being attention seeking, but went on to clarify that a lot of big names simply don't have the freedom to express their views in the way she has - but good on her for doing so.

I happen to come from a background where all my family are active union members and many of them, as miners, struggled a great deal in the 80s for the cause, so I won't have it implied I don't know what I'm talking about.

chartlotte church has really surprised me. People don't seem to understand that paying higher rates of tax means the government can spend money on investment in education, infrastructure and health which is what a country needs for a 'recovery' as osborne puts it.

Allt hey are doing inattepting to shrink the deficit is price people out of higher education, undermine investments in job creation and education and break the NHS, which is utterly fucking stupid. The deficit is alwyas going tobe there because you need to invest in the future to make a secure future for eveyrone and the next generations, all I can see is slash and burn, sucking as much money out of the system for their own gain knowing full well they will all be retired soon and on the lucrative guest speaker circuit or some other revolving door into even more obscene wealth aquisition.


spudgun: I thikn you are being paranoid there too, she seems utterly sincere ad someone more people can relate to than others who mnight speak out from their ivory castles.

No, the point really doesn't. The point is Charlotte is rich (and she doesn't deny it despite what you might read in the Daily Mail) and consequently has potential earning power to become even richer. And on those circumstances she has stated, where no others seem to dare these days, that she wouldn't mind paying very high taxes for proper public services.

I was expecting some kind of nude photos of aforementioned Z list celebrity..

I think Bono is a self-confessed tax dodger. Dunno about geldof.

I read somewhere Bono was the richest rock star around - worth more than Mcartney. At least 600 million and more likely a billion quid.

To be fair she gave one of the best speeches today, in terms of style if not content, which is what matters if everyone is saying basically the same thing.
