Benzos I love alcohol but hate benzos? why?

Yeah, I mean. Ha, actually the only way I can avoid a hangover is by taking benzos the next day to smooth out the edges. Alcohol is just such a rough drug. I love a few beers. But I only really drink because I don't want to develop a benzo habit.

Same here! Alcohol makes me depressed and have really bad anxiety cause of the hangover..Benzos on the other hand=smooth, calm, comfortable and no anxiety...i should mention i only use in medically perscribed doses though..i don't take a lot

oops just noticed i bumped an old thread...sorry

Im the complete opposite as the op. I fucking hate alcohol with a passion. It makes me arrogant and too self important, and when it wears off the comedown/hangover is unbearable. I dont leave my room for a day if I've drunk too much the night before.

Benzos however let me stay lucid and in control of what I do. I can relax around people and be myself, much more so than on ethanol. And instead of a hangover they just slowly wear off. They are very abusable for me, thats why I never do more than 2 benzos a week.

wow...interesting. I've met a TON of alcoholics who say benzos are a "wonder drug" and absolutely LOVE them. Interesting how drugs affect everyone differently huh? I enjoy both...about equally.

I don't know but it's my understanding that despite alcohol being a depresant that the effects of alcohol one experiences is to some degree situational/scene related. As in, if your at a party and everyone is happy and joking, etc you will experience happiness, etc based on how others are acting around you rather than feeling depressed. Driking alone on the other hand will be less likely to have you laughing and joking while your all alone...

it seems to me that benzos do more in the brain than just activating GABA. I love alcohol, but I hate benzos with a fucking passion.

All of my experiences with benzos have been disasterous. Once I took 8 klonopins and had a hangover of extreme rage for literally a week, by the 7th day i was still doped out.

Nothing is worse than valiums, Ive only taken them twice and both times I had extreme suicide ideation, luckily both times i wasn't alone or I wouldve cut my body to shreds. Is it possible that benzos affect serotonin in a negative way?
I do find this very interesting. I love alcohol and drink every night, but hate hangovers with a fucking passion haha, so I never usually drink to that point. But for me, I only really enjoy drinking, and drink more, and have less of a hangover when on benzos. This seems to be the opposite to you, but I have always known and been interested every now and then about this link between the two. There is a link between benzos and alcohol (GABA, Serotonin, etc.), but I think there is still a lot more yet to be found out.

I would have to say I am more inclined to choose benzos over alcohol, but I couldn't agree more with you with a passion about too many benzos leading to disaster. I only had to learn this lesson through xanax, clonazepam, lorazepam, diazepam, temazepam probably over 100 times (destructive behaviour, days up to over a week of blacking out at a time, doing the opposite of everything I should have been doing and never remembering anything, a couple of car accidents and hospitalisations). 8) I think most of us know that benzos can be fantastic if used correctly, BUT are absolute life destroyers otherwise.

The other opposite with me is that I've been taking valium every day for about 7 years now (with the exception of maybe 4 months off them in this period), and these days prescribed them for a correct dose.

It is interesting to hear about other peoples experiences of the link between the two, even though these experiences are different.
