it seems to me that benzos do more in the brain than just activating GABA. I love alcohol, but I hate benzos with a fucking passion.

All of my experiences with benzos have been disasterous. Once I took 8 klonopins and had a hangover of extreme rage for literally a week, by the 7th day i was still doped out.

Nothing is worse than valiums, Ive only taken them twice and both times I had extreme suicide ideation, luckily both times i wasn't alone or I wouldve cut my body to shreds. Is it possible that benzos affect serotonin in a negative way?

Absolutely. I have experienced pretty severe depression as well from valium. Lorazepam, too. But, this was when taking them constantly for weeks. Shit got bad.

I've never experienced a hangover from benzos. And I, too, have taken a bunch of klonopins. But I just dont like them, didn't even feel much except sleepy.

Take into consideration the half-life of the particular benzo. Clonazepam has a loonng half-life (though not as long as valium) so it's no wonder that high of a dose would be felt for a long ass time.

I too love alcohol but I still put benzos > alcohol IMO.

EDIT: Maybe you just have to find preferred benzo, or yeah rule out benzos all together. Valium is my personal favourite then Xanax being second. But I still only take Valium on the odd occasion. Xanax never seems to have a negative effect on me even if take a lot.

You may be experiencing rebound anxiety. Honestly, you are better off not liking benzos, as most people only like them for times when they are very anxious, or coming down from stimulants. Speaking of which, I don't like stimulants but I am not going to question why. It's just one less class of drugs I have to worry about.

Xanax was most tolerable to me. But honestly il proly just stick to alcohol, benzos just tear me apart. I wonder why alcohol dosen't? maybe because of its short half life and other mechanisms?

Well with my most recent and worst benzo experience, I didnt like the high and then the comedown was absouletly terrible. It wasn't anxiety, I was extremely depressed, drained, and felt extreme emptiness, like im a worthless piece of shit and i should just die. If I wasn't at my friends house I would have cut myself to shreds. However, the reason it was so extreme was due to an adderall binge the night before, but regardless benzos are just awful to me.

Its good that u dont like stims theyre pretty bad, unfortunatly for me I LOVE amphetamines, they are my fav class of drugs. I do not abuse them badly but I can't get away from them, they are the perfect drug imo. Too bad theyre so damaging and tolerance-forming.

i love benzos and now i hate alcohol i used to love alcohol when i was a kid but now it just doesn't get me where i want to go and no benzos don't affect serotonin

I have to taper off clonazepam still am, I drink here and there but i hate it. Dont like the taste but tequila Sunrises are awesome. cant drink beer really it tastes horrible, a drip from heroin powder taste better IMO hahaha

it seems they do for me, I don't abuse DXM anymore but the depression with valiumes was so bad I had to drink a few good swigs and bam, my depression was pretty much gone.

It sounds to me like you have negative expectations regarding benzos that cause you to have bad experiences. It sounds really unlikely that benzos could do all these things to you if you like alcohol. As my psychiatrist said to me very recently, actually "benzos can be used for alcohol withdrawal and alcohol can be used for benzo withdrawal".

On the other hand, taking 8 klonopins is clearly not an ideal way to get a clear picture of what benzos are like. It sounds like you have no tolerance so just try something small.

Agreed.

I never even understood the comparison, really. Maybe it's just because I've only done Xanax, but that shit just made me a zombie. No emotions at all. Whereas alcohol is carefree euphoria IME.

Sounds like you took a bit to much and like someone already said experienced rebound anxiety lol.

No, I actually had great expectations for benzos. The 8 K-pins was a bad idea, however, I can take the smallest dose of valium and go into super depressed mode for a few days.

The difference, imo, is that alcohol affects several other systems in the brain (NMDA, serotonin, dopamine, etc.) and has a very short half life.

I've got exactly opposite thoughts. I always felt that alcohol was making me quite intoxicated, I've tried benzos just once at it felt really natural.

Oh yeah, and what gman7104 said.

Comparing, as far as I remember, alcohol works on GABA-B, GHB works on GABA-A, and benzos work on both. I've read somewhere that because of that, benzos are the most 'downregulating' while GHB is the least downregulating on GABA receptors.

^^i think thats backward, GHB hits gaba-B and benzos hit gaba-A..

you guys are talking about valium withdrawal right when the super depression kicks in?

no, im talking about what happens when I take a valium just once.

I love benzos but don't like alcohol all that much (it makes me depressed) I'd have to say my 2 favorite benzos are halcion (triazolam) and rohypnol (flunitrazepam).

always loved alcohol, abused it quite a lot, find benzos boring. for me they're kinda like being drunk but without any recreational mild euphoric/loss of inhibition effects. make me quite zombified and slow. although for some reason im starting to like them more, but mainly when combined with things. prefer them in low doses, and wouldn't take them more than twice a week, heard lots of nasty shit about them

That's funny. I find benzos intensely euphoric at higher doses and deeply relaxing at lower ones. But it seems that a person's enjoyment of benzos is usually determined by how anxious they are in general. Anxious people get more relief from benzos and therefore find them more enjoyable.

Alcohol, on the other hand, often makes me angry and depressed. Further, and obviously, it makes you sick and gives a wicked hangover. Benzos are so much gentler by comparison.

Yeah I guess it depends on chemistry and such. When I drink water, take an ibuprofen, and then take a multivitamin the next day and smoke a bowl I feel great, hangovers dont really bother me.
