I knew a girl once,
her soft hair like honey in the sun.
“Just skin and bones,” she said,
but she was always a lot of fun.
“Come play!” she said, and I tried my best,
but my pains and fears succumbed me,
“You’ll never understand me,” I said,
and I left in a wanton tarry.
I always wonder what might have been,
Had I not faltered and run away,
Maybe she’d have had me to come over,
Perhaps she’d have asked me to stay.
her soft hair like honey in the sun.
