Last few months I've been contemplating smoking cannabis again after a long 10 year break, I have been wanting it so bad that I started having dreams where I was high again, so today I finally scored some...yay!!! =D

However there is a problem :p I quit cannabis in the first place 10 years ago when I overdosed on ectsacy and amphetamines which left me disabled with a neurological condition and a damaged autonomic, soon after this condition I I found that my body was no longer tolerating any of the drugs that act on the Autonomic System such as opiates, sedatives, cannabis, alcohol, anelgesics and stimulants....

So with great caution I threw a spec of cannabis (about the size of a peppercorn) into a home made vaporiser about 1 hour ago, I let it steam up and took my first toke and then bang!!!!...I got an intense hot flushed feeling in my face, an instant rise of heat and my cheeks just went red and my heart began to pound liek crazy. I just ran an turned on the air cooling sytem and got a wet towel and lay in front of it trying to cool down, my temperature is at 37.8 c at the moment, not too bad but it could be considered a fever, my heart symtoms have settled down however I didnt get high, I just become unwell, I dont think I even managed to have enough to get high before the side effects kicked in... so now Im thinking of trying round two, but I thought I'd ask you guys first.....

After a 10 year break should I try and desensitise my body to cannabis before I can actually get high and enjoy it ? and for now should I call it a day and try the same amount again tommorrow until my body gets a little more used to it ? Or should I get back in there and jump straight back on the horse and see what happens in round two ?

Yeah, start slow. A high dose can be a shock to the system...Its not generally harmful unless you also have a heart condition, or maybe some kind of endocrine disorder. You may feel like you are going to die, but you wont.

The anxiety will pass pretty soon and you will come back down to a level that you can enjoy and you will start to feel good again.

I am not a heavy weight anymore....I never liked smoking in circles where you are pressured to keep up...that is a recipe for a panic attack. Just smoke at your own pace, preferably your own pipe at your own leisure. Use weak stuff or mix it up with damiana and other smoking herbs to mellow it out.

Keep a benzo on hand if you get anxiety.

Thanks for your advice, I dont feel anxious though, its more of a fever, headache, icy cold hands that I have right now, the thumpy heart went away pretty quick, however this sudden onset of fever is kinda annoying.

8L4YN3, thanks you for your well wishes, I too am hoping for a smooth ride might take a few attempts but I will get there...hopefully %)

what i wanna know is what kind of home made vapouriser it was.

Excellent question, I was going to use a light bulb untill I read it had risks of releasing toxic fumes when heated, so Instead of the the bulb I decided to use a traditional small thin clear glass jar, the small glass ones you get at the store containg various herbs like thyme, basil, pepper salt etc, very appropriate considering cannabis is also a herb =D

I had a look online if glass jars had any toxic chemicals release when heated but couldnt find any, however if you feel it is unsafe please get back to me, thanks.

man, that really sucks if you cant even tolerate cannabis. how do benzos hit you?

Sometimes I can tolerate mescaline or acid or both together better than I can tolerate weed. Weed is some trippy shit and sometimes gives me more anxiety than euphoria. It depends....

I dont really smoke any weed at all these days now that I am taking pain medication....I would rather not need the medication because they I would have the freedom to drink or smoke weed whenever i wanted and enjoy it without falling asleep or worrying about over sedation.

That kin dof reaction from a small bit of weed is tough. Im not sure anyone here is qualified to give advice on this with your condition...

its tough. im not sure what to say actually. I would recommend maybe extraction or somthing, but that could be a while lot worse...

Can u smoke tobacco? if thc is th culprit, i wouldnt be vaping. get some CBD into you too, puff on a j...?

try a 1 hitter... Or a small rip off a piece... Then just turn on some music or grab some food. The bad effects usually go away as tolerance builds, though the only bad ones I ever got was cotton mouth -- and that's long gone.

I'm doing a lot better today with it, =D Ive been practicing by having a little bit every hours or so but at this rate I am going to go through my whole supply without getting high lol because I'm just edging it.

The good news is I havent had many bad effects today other than just the flushing and the fever response, so I feel I'm ready to push it to the next level but I need to ask you guys...if I dont feel high or any bad effects 5 minutes after a few vapez, is that a safe bet to go back for some more ? or should I at least give it 10 more minutes or so ?

I remember back in the days , when a few rookie friends first started out they would often say ...."I dont feel anything, (puff puff) still nothing yet (more puff), I dont think this is even working (puff puff) oh god I feel sick (vomit)"

From seeing that I dont want to be fooled and have to much and find it suddenly hits me so what sort of things should i look out for to play it safe ? Oh and I am finding that with the vaporiser I am getting alot of taste and flavour but no smoke when I exhale, and if i keep the lighter on alil bit longer to get smoke it ends up burning, so what is the right way to do it ?

Has your condition improved in the past year or two since I first read your thread on what happened to you?

I recall it had greatly affected your quality of life. Has this improved from then?

Hi Jude101, thank you for asking, wish I could say it had improved but it looks like its here to stay, still overheating with fevers on a daily basis for the past 10 years, still having blood pressure and heart problems from postural changes and movement, on the plus side though I am now able to tolerate my pain medication Oxycodone without adverse reactions thanks to 2 years of persistence and desensitising, wish I could say the same for other substances. I sure did a good job of breaking myself beyond repair 8)

weed has a way of making you precieve things are worse then it really is... Although these days a lot of people regard the plant as a "for everyone" type of drug, but it really isn't. With your condition, maybe it best to get a PCP's second opinion. Smoking does effect heart rate and I could see how it would effect body temperature and precieved body temperature quiet quickly.

Maybe you just got really paranoid and it wasn't the weed that made you get hot and start flushing? Those seem to be symptoms of panic attack. The weed also can increase/intensify feelings that you may be suppressing.

^That is true. But perhaps in this case one could trigger the other.

I hope it does not offend you too much Unlucky, but when I saw you post the initial series of events that led to this condition a year or two back. I was somewhat skeptical. I'm not now.

And maybe if you can't handle a nice big bowl tomorrow after today's experience then and try and find out if what you have is indica or sativa. That could make a difference.

I lived in London for a time, and most weed I smoked was hydro skunk shit, bred exclusively for bang. Made me feel like isolation, and sometimes physical symptoms like yours.

Here, I smoke exclusively good bud that grows outdoors here. It's mellower and more social, easier to relax on than hyrdo-real strong shit.

Maybe try some some nice bush weed?

I'm shutting up now. 8:47 here and I'm just home and got shit to do in an hour8)

OMG!! What a night!! :( I am never smoking weed again!

Past 2 days the small amounts I was smoking wasn't really getting me high so I decided last night to double it, about 10 minutes later after a few tokes I got this hot nauseating sensation in my osephagus in the middle of my chest and it just kept building up and I felt so quizzy I began to throw up over and over again so many times it began to hurt, and then my blood pressure..omg I've never seen it that high before it was 197/104 , it was begging for an anyerusm and my normal bp is usually 120/60, my heart rate was up in the 140's. Every time I threw up I began to shake with chills and get real cold, I would get under the blankets and then instantly become feverish again and turn the air conditioner and then instantly become cold again, I was putting on clothing to warm up as fast I was taking it off to cool down, it really messed up my temperature, I had to call my parents in to my room and when my mum saw my blood pressure she decided to call the ambulance, OMG what a mess!

By the the time the paramdeics got here my heart rate and blood pressure had dropped slightly but was still in an abnormal range, the paramdeics wanted to transport me to hospital but I refused and told them I was feeling better, they allowed me to take an extra dose of my betablockers, the odd thing was I didn't feel high, I just felt very very sick. I went to bed and tried to sleep it off but then I woke up at 5 am with horrible stomach pains, acid reflux and started throwing up again, its now been 15 hors since the incidence and my stomach still hasnt settled down yet, I think all that throwing up took its toll on me. Where did I go wrong ? Should I just look at this as my body still adjusting to the cannabis or is it an indication that it just doesent agree with me?

From your post history, I would contend that most things will not agree with you.

If you become desperate to smoke again (I certainly would) then maybe: A: Try cleaning, examining the vape, make sure it's o.k. B: Take any anti-anxiety drug - or any that alleviates your symptoms or C: Try cooking with it, see if the effects are different.

Personally, with what you've said before I believe it's worth leaving alone. If not the above thoughts may do no more harm.
