Long story short I was alcohol dependent for 3 years. 7 moths sober next week (yay me!)

Anyway i never had much of a drug problem. Always had a pretty good handle on them but i did used to drink to help me comedown. Now it was my friends brithday so i tanned a lot of MDMA, some coke and for some stupid reason a bit of speed ('orrible drug don't know why i took it) Anyway - i've grown up a bit and my drug use is normally every 4-8 weeks between.

Cut a long story short i have always needed something to help me come down which used to be alcohol but seeing as im tee-total now it's normally a high dose of codeine, some tramadol and a few valiums.

Now I have had a couple of seizures from taking way too much tramadol in my silly younger years. Before going to bed (I have high tolerances to most things)I preloaded on 30mg valium to lower my seizure threshold just incase. I took 390mg of codeine, 250mg of tramadol but being pretty tired i forgot and double dosed - took another 250mg tramadol (500mg in total).

In my past experience this amount may well cause a seizure. Do you lot think the 30mg valium will lower my seizure threshold to avoid triggering a seizure? I know you aren't doctors but 30mg was always enough to stave off much more violent/repetative alcohol withdrawal seizures.

Perhaps not last night (it was my best friends brithday) but i've turned a new leaf in my life and recreational drug use is causing no residual effects. I just dont want any complications like a seizure. I have 100mg of valium left (i've taken 30mg). Just wondering what your opinions. For instance what is the normal dose given to an epileptic having/about to have a seizure?

EDIT it's been t-45 mins and the effects are starting to kick in. Need to find a balance - benzo amnesia makes me sleep walk and i get up to some weird shit! Head is starting to nod and i don't wanna wake up full of sweat with aching muscles because i've had a seizure!!

Regardless of the Benzos adjusting your seizure threshold, you should never take Tramadol after Cocaine (Ol' Dirty Bastard died of this combo), Amphetamines or MDMA because it acts as an SNRI and is highly contraindicated.

Isn't the Codeine and Diazepam enough to come down? I mean Tramadol doesn't even work well as a downer because of its pushy effects even if it becomes more sedating later. It is not worth the risk and 500mg after a night with all these drugs seems very dangerous. Good luck to you.

I just wanted to clear up that you have the seizure threshold thing backwards. Lower seizure threshold = increased chance of having a seizure, and higher seizure threshold = lower chance of having a seizure, so what you mean is that the valium should increase your seizure threshold.

Other than that, I don't know the answer to your question but I guess you will let us know the outcome tomorrow.

Thanks for your answers, i was fine (atleast i think i was) fell asleep nicely, and for 12 hours, so i reckon the benzos doing their job. As for tramadol - i did not know it was an snri, I will definitely avoid this combination in the future. The reason I use tramadol is because i find it potentates the effects of the codeine. As we all know too much codeine makes you chuck. I can get the same effects combining it with tramadol.

Thanks again - might have accidentally done myself in another time. Anyway it's 2 months of clean living now which i'm starting to find just as fun as tanning drugs all the time!

Just that - I'd take a small-moderate (remember Tramadol is a weak opiate but an opiate still) dose of benzo's. You'll feel the opiate a lot more and get drowzy but it'll greatly raise your seizure risk.

I used to suffer alcoholism and I'd get given large dose of Librium (clordiazaoxide) for the WDs and seizures.
